Chapter 2 - The Morning Routine

It was an incredible sight; the night was a bluish-black, and the stars sparkled brightly. Clouds floated in as they were gently cruising like ships in the ocean. The city was quiet, with only a few cars driving in at night. Still, the animals in the town were silent, the dogs' barks were muted, and the squeaks of rats and mice were muffled as the red ray of moonlight started to shine down, not too bright, as it was dim, but noticed about by some who gazed upon it.

This night was the night of a blood moon. Some were awake, mostly people committing crimes and cops who stopped them. Still, they were too busy to notice it was a blood moon, as they were too busy causing trouble and keeping society safe. One person, though, was up late, as it was around 2 a.m. in the mourning. This was a young boy, about 15 years old. He was still in middle school. He is in a white t-shirt and his boxers and is at his desk, still working on his homework. he takes a break as he yawns tiredly and looks out his window towards the moon. His gaze was hooked on the moon's beauty. He felt amazed by the anonymous glow as he heard rumors. Still, it seemed harmless and quite a wonderful sight to behold.

"Oh wow, isn't that a sight?" he said to himself at the beautiful sight of the red glow that the moon put off. He took on his glasses, rubbed his eyes, cleaned off them, and put them back on as he glanced at his clock, noticing it was late. "I guess I should get to bed or be late for school again." he stumbles to his bed, letting out a long, tired, but disappointing sigh, as he was upset with himself for getting lost in his schoolwork again. Once again, he removes his glasses but puts them on his dresser by his bed, then lays down and falls asleep. He didn't notice a tealish blue light formed on his glasses like they were being protected by something.

The sun crept over the building in the city, and the town was awake before Omen even was. It was just another day in the city, people hurrying about their business, adults rushing to work or preparing their children for another day at school. The sounds of car horns, people yelling at each other, dogs barking, birds chirping, and his mother crying Omen's name for the fiftieth time.

Omen slightly pried his eyes open and glared at the clock. Unfortunately, his sight was nothing without his glasses. He reached for his glasses, still not noticing their glow, but once his fingers touched them, the light shattered like glass. Disappearing from everyone's view and continued to stay a secret even from Omen. he put on his glasses and saw it was 10 a.m. His eyes widen in fear, and that is when he hears his mother's footsteps coming to his room. A little rushed but harshed booming across the floor.

"Omen! Did you stay up again!" his mother asks, her voice was stern but gentle. The smell of biscuits and gravy snuck into his room underneath the door crack.

"I did. I am sorry, I was up late again doing extra homework!" Omen answers her with a panicked but apologetic voice.

She knocks on the room's door, warning him she is coming in. The door opens, and his mother stands with a stern but caring look on her face, looking at him with a slight smile like she was wondering about him with her head tilted and her arms on her side. "How often do I need to tell you, Omen, you don't need to keep doing school work for extra credit? You're top in all your classes, bud."

Omen stands there rubbing the back of his head, messing up his teal hair even more, embarrassed by the fact that his mother nicely scolded him. he bows down several times and repeats he is sorry.

His mother turns around to go back to the kitchen. Still, she glances at him again before she does and smiles gently, "Come get breakfast, and I'll take you to school afterward, my smart, handsome boy."

That is when Omen noticed his mom. She had short blue hair, her eyes were purple, she wore a white top with purple flowers on it and black pants, his mother looked 30 years of age, but she was 35 years old. She wore an apron that kept the mourning food off her clothes. She had a spatula in her hands. She looks at him and says, "Come on now, Omen, you are late already." She returns to the kitchen.

Omen nods as he replies, "Right, be right there." He hurriedly grabbed his backpack, hearing the zipper zipping as he unzipped his bag. Omen gathered his schoolwork and his books and stuffed them in the bag. The smell of fresh new plastic filled the air but disappeared as he pressed his school supplies in his backpack. he then zipped up his bookbag, hearing the zipping noise again. Omen put his bag by the door of this room and gathered his school uniform. The look of lost and flustering forms on his face as he hurries to get ready to go, still having much to do.

He rushes outside his room, and you hear the booming on the floor as he runs back and forth. He runs to the bathroom. The bathroom tiles were hard on his feet as he felt like he was stepping on concrete and turning on the water for a quick shower. He quickly grabbed a towel and put it on the toilet as the water hit the tub and sounded like a waterfall. He removes his glasses, putting them on the side of the sink, and then his boxers, letting them drop on the floor, showing his bottom, but quickly steps into the shower and closes the curtains.

Once he finished cleaning the sweat and dirt off him, he turned off the water, grabbed the towel on the toilet, and covered himself. He leaves the shower with the towel around him, hiding his lower body. His hair was dark teal and dripping water on his upper body as it was still wet. Omen was skinny and didn't have any muscle tone to him.

Omen put his glasses back on to see what he was doing and turned on the water on the sink. The water splashed, but the sound was like the flow of a creek. He grabbed his toothbrush and his toothpaste and started to brush his teeth. The toothpaste had a minty flavor, and it was refreshing to his mouth. He rinsed out his mouth and spat out the filth. It burned slightly, but he ignored the pain and continued getting ready.

Omen rushed back to his room. As the air got colder, it seemed like winter in his home. he put on new, clean boxers but had the towel still on him. Once covered with his boxers, he removed the towel and put his pants on one leg at a time. His pants were a bit scratchy and dark blue, but they were always like that, and he got used to the feeling real quick. He put on a black belt to hold his pants up, as they did loose up during the school day, and he hated when he had to pull them up. It felt embarrassing and quite annoying, as he respected himself and everyone around him in school. He threw on a white button-up shirt, tied a blue uniform tie around his neck, tugged it in his collar, and then threw on the uniform jacket, which was dark blue, also matching the uniform. He finished getting dressed as he wore his white socks and formal school shoes.

Once he finished getting dressed, he quickly grabbed his backpack and headed to the kitchen to eat. The smell of biscuits and gravy got stronger. He could smell the sausage in the sauce as he heard the gravy boiling in the pot. The pepper's aroma filled the air, attacking his taste buds and making his stomach growl. He saw the table was set for him and his mom. he sat at the table, filling the soft and gentle tablecloth his mom had on the table. His eyes wandered the kitchen until he saw a small TV, which got his attention. as the TV showed the news.

The news showed a picture of two men in the corners of the TV screen. One man had long White hair and a hat, his eyes were grey, and it looked like he had a wool jacket on. The look on his face was shocked, like he was surprised he was caught doing something wrong or was innocent, but Omen thought if he was innocent, then why was his picture on TV?

The second man had long red hair, and his eyes were hazel, but the look in them was the look of a killer, and his smile creeped Omen out as it sent a chill down his spine. The newsperson looked concerned and urgent as sweat ran down his face, reading off the script. "Please watch out for these two men as they are highly dangerous. They have been marked as terrorists in the first agree, wielding powers of the unknown."

Omen closed his eyes and shook his head as a sigh of disbelief formed. His eyes shifted away from the TV, and he shook his head as he didn't understand why anyone could wield powers. He didn't know anyone with powers or even using them, so he felt it was a fear factor to keep everyone on their toes. His mother gave Omen a plate of biscuits and gravy, then put a plate of the same meal in her spot. Omen began to eat, but his mother turned off the TV with a frown, clearly unhappy at the news. "you don't need to hear that crap before you go to school."

His mom takes off her apron and puts it on the kitchen counter. She then sneaks into her chair at the table and plays with her food but stares at Omen with a gentle smile. Omen gulps his meal, wipes his mouth, and locks his eyes with her. "Mom, you're doing that creepy stare again." he clears his throat, feeling uncomfortable.

"I am sorry, bud, but you look exactly like him." She tucks her hair around her ear, and her face turns red. Omen looks up at her and lets go of a sigh of flustering disappointment. "Mom, you know, you being a little creepy right now, plus I don't want to talk about my lowlife father." Her blushing turns into a frown as she sighs in frustration, "I know, and I am sorry, kido." Before eating her food, she continued, "I am just so proud of you for being a good boy." Omen's face turned red as he watched his mother gently smile and continue eating her food.

Finally, she takes the final bite of her food, and Omen picks up his bag and takes a deep breath. His heart skips a beat, and he starts thinking about school and fearing what will happen when he arrives, as he is not popular. His mother grabbed the keys on the table and her purse by the door. They rushed out of their apartment, ignoring the smell of rotting trash and the buzzing of flies. It was garbage day. Omen ran down the stairs, making booming noises in a hurry. Omen's mother closed the door.

The keys jingled as she tried to hurry and lock the door and follow her son. She heard the lock click and held the keys tightly as he rushed down the stairs after her son. She also caused a booming noise, causing people outside the building to look at them as she hurried to her car in the parking lot.

They both got into the car and slammed the doors, making a loud banging noise. Omen's mother started the car, and the engine roared like a lion. She pulled out of the parking lot and drove Omen to school, but while they were heading to his school, Omen turned on the radio. The news still talked about the two men with powers and were terrorists. They rolled their eyes, annoyed at the information, but allowed the radio chat to drown the boredom. As Omen's mother dodged Traffic, the radio continued to talk about the criminals at large.

The radio announced how one man with the white hair was only known as Heath. He used his powers to break into stores when they were closed, summoning portals to steal from them. However, the other man, known by his red hair and a wild look in his eyes, was known to be more dangerous. No information was given about his powers, but it was clear that he would kill anyone who looked at him the wrong way and that he had stained his weapons with the blood of his victims. The warning from the news about these two terrorists was still unresolved.

Before Omen knew it, he was already at school. The car halted, and the brakes screeched a bit. Omen exited the vehicle and slammed the door, and the loud bang echoed outside. Omen looks at the building, his eyes widen, and his heart starts beating fast. The sight of the building began to get close, and the world seemed to collapse around him. Omen began to breathe heavily but tried to control it as he didn't want his mother to worry. That is when he heard, "Have a good day, kiddo!" He waved at her, not even looking back as he panicked. His mother drove away as she continued her day, while Omen had to deal with the other kids in school.
