That day, Princess Violet Everhart was burned at the stake, accused of committing a great crime against the Guardian of the empire by targeting his disciple….
"What a load of bullshit!" A girl with short brown hair jumps up in bed, irritated at the ending of her favourite novel.
'Crown of Thrones'
"Honestly! ARGHHH, I WASN'T PAYING $10 EACH MONTH FOR THIS BULLSHIT OF AN ENDING!! Violet should've stood up for herself!!" The girl grumbles as she throws her phone across the room angrily.
"If I were Violet, I would do a better job." The girl huffs out her cheeks as she pulls her covers onto herself. Suddenly, there was a glimmer of light twinking before her eyes. At first, she figured it was just the lack of sleep getting to her, so she brushed past it and laid back down, drifting away into sleep, unaware of the things about to happen which would change her life forever.
'....ncess .. . . Princess!'
A quiet, soft voice calls out to me; it's difficult to hear. I open my eyes, adjusting to the light as I look around. A woman dressed in a maid costume looks at me with considerate eyes, her hair an attractive shade of green and her radiant brown eyes shining excitedly. I stare at her before looking at my hands, gleaming creamy skin soft to the touch.
Then it clicks to me.
'This isn't my bedroom?!' I get up hurriedly as I stare at myself in the mirror, a hand over my glass, clear skin and radiating beauty. I had skily ebony hair, dark and gleaming as the moonlight in the night, my eyes a charming shade of honey sparkling in the sun.
'Shit! No way! Am….AM I PRINCESS VIOLET EVERHART??!'
I stare at the mirror in shock and horror before the maid snaps me out of my thoughts.
"Your Highness?" She asks, her voice dripping with concern as she looks at me. "Are you feeling better?" she asks as I look at her dazed, then back at myself in the mirror.
I stare at myself in the mirror, still processing the entire situation, "Sorry, who are you?" I had no idea who this woman was. I say, fiddling with my fingers, "And where am I?" I questioned it was my best option since Violet wasn't discussed much in the original novel.
The maid dropped the glass she was holding. It cracked, the glass shattered all over the floor, and she looked panicked.
"CALL THE ROYAL DOCTOR RIGHT AWAY!" she yelled as the other maid hurried out of the room, confused, whilst some stayed to clean up the shattered glass. The maid stood me up, helped me into the bed, and held my hand. Her hand was clammy and shaky, indicating her clear state of panic.
"It'll be alright, Your Highness", she says, her voice breaking ever so slightly as the door erupts open. The maid gets up and bows.
"Greetings to the sun of the empire, and the sun soon to rise." She greets three men who are heavily dressed in suits, flashed out in jewels and all sorts of shiny things.
"Vi!" A man similar to me runs over as he knees down and holds my hand. "Do you remember who I am, my dear?" he asks as tears fill his eyes.
I look around at the other two males, assuming the one holding my hand is my father and the other two are my brothers, from what has been told about Violet in the story. My best option is to pretend I was in an accident and have lost all my previous memories. I shake my head hesitantly as I take my hand back, looking scared.
'I should deserve an Oscar right now!' I inwardly think as my father, I assume, clenches the sheets tight, as one of the taller males, taking my older brother Cassius, puts a hand on my father's shoulders.
"Father, it's alright. The royal doctor will be here soon," He comforts, trying to stay strong, but it's undeniable he's on the verge of tears. The other, who looked my age, assuming my twin brother as per the story, was crying very clearly as he jumped into bed, hugging me as he cried into my shoulder.
"You promised you'd be safe if I left you alone! I shouldn't have left you alone," he cried. I couldn't think of anything other than putting my hand in his hair and stroking it gently as if it were a natural response from my body.
He held me tight as the royal doctor walked in, hurriedly sat beside me, and ran various tests. When he was done, he looked up at my father worriedly.
"Her Highness has been diagnosed with amnesia," he says with a concerned look painted over his face. "The accident she was in had a great impact on the part of her skull that triggered her to lose all her memories", he explains as my father bursts into tears, his face in his hands; my older brother turns his face away as he held back his tears.
Marcus hugged me tighter. "I swear I'll never leave you alone ever! I'll protect you every second of my life", he says, sobbing as he blames himself for the situation.
I sigh and just let them be. Soon enough, they leave, but Marcus stays by my side, sleeping beside me in my bed. Father had agreed to let him stay in my room for now, as our debut was coming up anyway. I look down at my lap and try to grasp the whole situation.
'I'm a princess in my favourite novel, and everyone in the castle thinks I have lost all my memories. However in the original novel Violet did get into an accident as she nearly drowned in the lake when she went out with her twin brother someone knocked her out with a rock and left her to drown but she never had memory loss. Maybe it's because I've taken over her body.'
I fall back on the bed, covering my face; God damn, everything was a mess.
The next day, I was woken up by the maids in the room. They pulled open the curtains and opened the window as sunlight poured through. I turned away from the light, covering myself with blankets.
"Your Highness, you must get ready. Your father wishes to see you." The maid who had sparkling brown eyes, I found out, was my lady-in-waiting, named 'Diana'. The maids had done everything from getting my bath ready to bathing and changing me. Everything! All I had to do was stand there still as they did everything.
"You look beautiful, your highness, his highness, the emperor would like to have breakfast together as a family", she says as Marcus (my twin brother) bursts in, fully dressed. He wore a red three-piece, his pants black, which were halved at his knee, with a white shirt and a red vest over it. He looked handsome, but I snapped out of the thoughts because I was inside his sister's body.
I was wearing a similar colored dress, but it was a slightly paler red than his. I wore a flowy short dress that covered slightly below my knees. The dress was embroidered with floral patterns. My earring was short but real ruby, I had a lace choker around my neck, a satin bow in my hair as it'd been tied back into a cute hairstyle, white shoes with pearls, everything was high quality and so beautiful to see and comfortable to wear. The outfits weren't too over the top as some of the nobles wore since I was in the body of 16-year-old Violet.
"You look so pretty, Vi!" Marcus said as he held my hand, and we walked down with the guards to the dining hall where father and older brother were already sitting. Marcus was 16 as of right now, and my older brother was around 19. I sat down beside Marcus as Father stopped me and requested.
"Violet, come sit next to me", he says, smiling as I nod and head over to the empty seat beside him. My brothers smiled at me. It felt homely, the environment wasn't suffocating, and I felt like it was what 'home' was supposed to feel like.
"Since you don't know us in a way, I want to build up our bond again." Father starts and explains all the activities and things we must do from now on. I wanted to learn sword fighting, which was rare for women of the time. 'But I wanted to protect myself when needed. I needed to protect myself from her.'
'If I'm correct, I'm 16 right now, which means that by the time I'm 18, she should make an entrance, then everything from there goes south, but I have two years to make myself more powerful than Violet ever was',
I think to myself before my father snaps me out of the thoughts.
"Violet?" He questions as I flinch back into reality, and I look at him confused. "What would you like to do?" he asked as I thought, looking down at my untouched plate.
"I want to learn swordsmanship," I say as my father spits out his water, and my older brother starts choking on his food. Marcus looks at me with his eyes shining.
"A-are you sure?" My father asked, conflicted between allowing it and restricting me, and I nodded, my eyes shining brightly.
"Yes, Father! I'm very sure, please!" I said, my eyes begging as he looked away.
"If you ask that nicely, how am I supposed to refuse? So I'll allow it. You and your brother will be under Cassius's training. Now Cassius, just because she's your sister doesn't mean you'll go easy on her, will you?"
Cassius puts his knife and forks down and wipes his mouth, "Yes, Father." He smiles softly before he turns to me. "I hope you'll be on time, Violet," He says before getting up. "If you'll excuse me," He says, but before he can leave, Father stops him.
"Cassius, before you leave, I have an announcement to make; I think it's about time for you to get married, don't you think so," He crosses his legs as he smiles; Cassius freezes in his tracks as he turns back to him wanting to say something before sighing.
"I understand, but I would like to know at least the lady I'll be marrying before I get married" " he says, sitting back down as Marcus and I share a look, trying to contain our laughter. I clear my throat and go back to eating.
Cassius glares at us before returning to Father. "Do you have anyone in mind?" He says as Father nods.
"Indeed I do. I have a few that have sent a marriage proposal forward, and in all honesty, I've sent one to the one I want you to get married to, but we'll invite all of them over for a ball, and we'll see how you get along with all of them, is that alright with you?" Father says, a gentle smile on his face. Cassius nods. "I understand. May I take my leave now?" He asks.
"Yes, I shall make the arrangements and let you know at a later date, so be prepared; there will be visits from potential candidates, and they'll all be put under trials and under the right education of being a proper crown princess, but all of that shall be discussed with the head maid, and Violet," He says before turning to me, as I look at him shocked, as Cassius leaves the dining room, and the maids start cleaning his plates.
"P-pardon?!" I asked as I looked at him. He smiled at me.
"Why yes, I want you to make sure you pick the best daughter-in-law for me. I want you to get along with your sister-in-law, and I want someone who will love Cassius for him and not just the position of Crown Princess" " he says with a smile. I saw where he came from, so sighing, I agreed to choose my future sister-in-law.
"Can I go with her father?!" Marcus requests as he looks at Father with glowing eyes.
"Of course, you may, but you must behave best. Am I understood?" He says sternly as we both nod.
"Yes, Father!" We say in unison, smiling. We leave shortly after as Marcus shows me around the castle, and I look around amazed. Marcus suddenly stops and taps my shoulder, giggling.
"Tag!" He giggled before running off, and before I could react, he was gone. I sighed and tried to look around but realised I was lost. I looked around the enormous walls and ceilings. Small details are carved into the wall with great detail. I wasn't looking where I was going and bumped into someone, causing me to fall on the floor. I groaned as I rubbed my head, looking up and getting blinded by the most beautiful man I'd ever seen; he was holding out his hand, a look of panic on his face.
"Your Highness, are you alright? I apologise for my lack of attentiveness," He apologised as he helped me up, lowering his head. "Greetings to the flower of the empire." He bowed; I couldn't take my eyes off him.
As I stood up, his tall, slender body towered over me with ease. He looked down at me, and I couldn't take my eyes off his man. He had a slim waist, toned arms, broad shoulders, and god. His honey-blonde curls fell over his face, masking his forest-green eyes. He was like an angel sent from the heavens above.
"Your Highness?" He asked, his husky voice playing like a melody in my ears before I snapped out of my fantasy land.
"Y-yes?" I stammered as I cleared my throat, putting a loose strand of hair behind my ears, which were a red tint, as I looked down at the floor.
"Are you alright?" He asked, remaining uptight and elegant, but his voice had a tint of concern.
"Yes, I'm alright. Thank you for asking!" I replied, feeling my face turn hot. I turned around and dashed forward, unsure where I was going when I bumped into another person, 'JUST WHAT IS MY LUCK?!' I inwardly scream as I look up to see Cassius; my eyes glow in relief as I hide behind him bright red.
"Vi?" He questioned before he looked up at the person. "Rohan." He looks up at him and glares, "Did you hurt my sister in any way?" He said, narrowing his eyes as the other lowered his gaze, Cassius's voice stern and cold.
"I would never do such a thing, Your Highness," He says in a bowing position, one hand behind his back and one arm on his opposite shoulder.
Cassius sighed and took my hand, his gaze softening. "Come on, Vi," He says as he walks with me. I follow as I have no other choice. I turn back to look at Rohan once before I leave, and we make eye contact. My heart throbs as I turn away instantly, my stomach attacked by a swarm of butterflies.
Rohan smirks as he lifts his head. 'That's an interesting energy I'm getting,' he thinks as his eyes follow the young princess, her hair ebony a form of darkness, yet all that dripped from her aura was kindness and pure white energy. He grins in amusement as he turns on his heels and walks away in the opposite direction.
Little did I know how horrible things were going to turn out later...
