Chapter 16 - Chapter sixteen

David

The meeting earlier was full of indefinite torture. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

Thank God, my father saved me by calling me out for my speech. Otherwise my body would have fully betrayed me.

The movements in my pants were not a joke. What was she thinking, sitting next to me?

Every time I'm close to her, my body temperature rises, although I've only been here for like what? A day or two.

I thought it was just like the one night stands I've always had. Not like anything has happened between us, but I thought these feelings of wanting her, all to myself, my hands urging me to grab each part of her body, would be over today, but no.

Everything is still the same. I hate her. I want her. Gosh! I can't help but wonder whether she has some kind of spell on me.

We had a fight in my father's office and it's at moments like those ones that the part of me that hates her becomes very active.

It annoys me every bit to think that my father is favoring her in everything he does. He's even taking sides with her and to make matters worse, they're having matters to solve together?

I know I'm the only one who sees her as a villainess which is why I decide to take matters into my own hands.

Even if she's drop dead gorgeous, my family comes first and I would die before I let anyone destroy us.

So, I slowly but carefully follow my father's car from a very good distance. No one would notice. It's not the first time I'm doing this, trailing someone . I've done this from where I studied. From the various missions I've gone on.

I know my father is a very careful man, so I have to be extremely careful too.

He definitely wouldn't approve of this, considering he asked me to look at everything and familiarize myself with work before I can officially start, but that can wait, of course.

To my luck, there's a little traffic and he wouldn't notice my car.

Well that's just luck. Another luck is that the roads they are following are favorable for me. I can follow from a distance without getting lost or being noticed.

Heavens must be on my side this time.

When they arrive at the destination, I assume it's one of the Delavega's properties, warehouses.

I watch them walk out of the car. Yeah, she's going to do it again, capturing my attention with her small figure, in the official fashion , just as she did earlier.

I shouldn't do that but I can't help but admire her, as she walks next to my dad, as they go through the entrance which is heavily guarded by men in black.

A very careful man that one. It took me a lot of tricky movements to follow him here.

I wait in the car for a while before I finally decide to get out, even if it means causing trouble. I know my dad might get angry but that doesn't stop me. I walk for a distance, from where I've packed my car, to the entrance.

"Excuse me sir," one of the guards standing at the entrance hisses, "you're not supposed to be here . The boss gave out a strong order that no interruption until he's done." Youve got to be kidding me. Is he really serious?I let out a scoff and shake my head.

"Oooh! Is that so?" I ask and he answers me straight, "Yes sir."

"Do you know who you're talking to?"

He definitely does. I'm my father's only son.Who doesn't know that?

"Yes sir, but the boss specifically…"

"Do you love your job, Mr.." I counter.

I slightly open my suit's coat and part of my gun is peeping through it.

Not that I want him to cower but I'm the legitimate heir of this syndicate and I remind him just that, before he surrenders and lets me in without a word.

Not to sound petty or weak, but saying that kind of feels like a triumph.

I walk to the room I've been directed to and I open the door only to catch the sight of Maria and some man all tied up with bruises.

It's just the two of them and she has a pocket knife in Her hand. She just turns back in time, for our eyes to meet.

" Holy Crap! What the.."

I can't quite finish my statement before she speaks up, "You again." From the way she's staring at me, I don't see disappointment written on her face, like the other times when our paths collide.

Okay, if I join my dots right, my father just chose this woman for this job. This is why she left with her during work hours. What is she now? His personal assistant or what?

I glance at the man tied up.

He has bruises all over him and his clothes seem so wet as they tightly hug each part of his body. Some parts which are bleeding. He looks lifeless and with very minimal energy. Did she do all this to him?

There's a bucket of water on the side.

Good Lord! Do I underestimate this woman or am I on the right track with my thoughts of her?

From her looks, she's an angel in disguise. That innocent face I've been longing to get my hands on, not to mention the innocent blue eyes from the moment I first saw them in a picture.

But again, it should have been me. Dad should have picked me. These are the kind of things we should be doing together.Father and Son.

"You did all this?" I finally speak up.

"What does it look like, David?" She responds.

Me:"Oh! So you're my father's right hand woman now?" I ask again, looking at the man. Who's he anyway?

"Does it annoy you?" She asks again with knitted brows. I try to ignore that question. Of course it bothers me.

"Who's he? And what the hell is going on here, Maria Banes?"

"No, the real question here is, what are you doing here?" She points the knife at me and at that moment I can't help but think, how she would gladly use that knife on me instead.

I know she despises me. "Why do you seem to see yourself as someone very special to this family?"

"That's because I am… Special, does that annoy you, David?" She asks, gently rubbing her figures at the sharp side of the knife.

"Well, you're just a legal counsel and you also handle cases for us, that's all. But I'm the legitimate heir of the Delavega family. The only one at that

Something you'll never be, no matter how hard you struggle." I can't stop the words from coming off my mouth.

" Where's my father?" I probe. For all I know we could go on with these series of questions that no one is willing to answer. But, my father saves us the trouble, "David! What the hell are you doing here?" he asks as soon as he opens the door to the room, "how did you even get on here?"

"Does that even matter, dad?" I direct the question to him before following it with another one, "Why would you choose to work hand in hand with this betrayer?"

The man being captured lets out a loud smirk as soon as my question is out in the air. All of us shift our gazes towards him and his lips are slowly curving into a smile.

What's wrong with him? Did I say something funny?

"How dare you.. You're actually urging in front of my culprit. Are the both of you out of your damn minds?'' My Dad speaks in annoyance and disappointment.

"I don't know what's going on between you two, but you need to settle whatever fuss you have before you actually cost me my business."

Maria and I are silently listening to him until I speak up.

"But dad, you just don't know who this woman is. Yet you're trusting her with everything." I don't want to go into specifics with my father until I have all my facts straight, with some evidence to support them.

My dad pulls us out of the room and orders the men standing at the door to give us some space.

" Now, listen to me, both of you, listen carefully," he says when we're just the three of us close to the door, but in a low tone. He's actually ordering us, angrily.

"You're a Banes," he points at Maria," and you're a Delavega, " he points back at me, "we've always kept the peace between the two families and we've never broken the terms of the agreement that was made even before you came into existence. I'm sure you know of this, Maria." She nods at that.

"The last time there was a fuss between the two families… I'm not going to talk about it. But this is the last time I'm giving you this lecture politely.

Now this is what you're going to do, you're going to get into the same car and get your asses back to work. I don't know what's going to happen in that car but you better get to Delavega holdings having settled this little fiasco you have. Now get your faces out of my sight. "
