So even after the phone had rung for a long time, on Mr. Houston's end, all remained quiet.
Out of options and unable to reach Mr. Houston, the general manager came looking for him.
He called to ask about the contract situation.
Jacob Zahn, gritting his teeth, had to explain, "Mr. Webster, over at Majestic Corp., for some reason, their CEO has held off on the contract."
Mr. Webster's first reaction was, "Could it be that they plan to sign with someone else?"
Jacob Zahn thought to himself that he had actually forgotten to ask such an important question.
But to admit his forgetfulness would be the same as admitting his incompetence to Mr. Webster.
The question was so important, and he had forgotten to ask it.
Thus, Jacob Zahn clarified, "I asked, but they didn't want to tell me anything. Mr. Houston's secretary was the one who got in touch with me, and I've been unable to get in touch with him."
