Chapter 3
When I left my room, I found two men in suits standing outside, my door, at first, I was scared, but then, I remembered, Jagon had said I was safe, something about what he said, made me want to trust him. But I was skeptical when I recalled how I came to be abducted. The men, lowly bowed their hands as I walked past, is this how they greet it each other. I smiled back so I don't seem rude.
I didn't know where I was going, but I just walked and got down the stairs which ultimately led me to an open kitchen, combined with the living room. Jagon was talking to a man a bit taller than him, something about him, echoed, power. I felt the need to be submissive to him or pay respect to him, I walked slowly. The two men stopped talking and I looked at him. I halted.
The other man looked at me briefly before returning to the conversation, as if trying to dismiss my presence. He was well built, in formal wear, if it was back in university all the girls would be drooling at him and I would not be bothered slightly. But when he turned, my heart broke a little. I felt the need to get his attention, I wanted him to acknowledge that I was in the room. Suddenly, I felt I should have made more effort to look presentable, my eyes probably looked puffy from all the crying, what about my hair. Did I look fine, was he blasé by what he saw. I rubbed my eyes. I wished he could turn back again and look at me. He was standing tall, with a perfect posture.
My heart was racing there was something about a man in a suit that made my heart flutter, but looking at him I felt my heart beating rapidly against my chest. It was beating in a slightly painful way. I was happy and sad at the same time. I wanted to walk up to him and hold his hand briefly, those hands which were nicely laid on the kitchen counter top. I moved slowed as I looked at him down up. He was wearing a black tuxedo, no it was a dark color I noticed as I got closer, it wasn't black, but something along the lines of matte black-blue. His scent, was unique one, something about it made my brain see things in slow motion, I observed his every move slowly. Those hands would feel good in mine, I thought to myself. I almost wondered how it would feel to be in his strong looking hands.
"Anika, come here", Jagon was already by my side holding my hand and pulling to the direction of the man, who now looked at me. He broke whatever trance I was under, I now realized how close I was getting to them. If Jagon had not pulled me I would have stumbled into the beautiful creature next to him. The handsome stranger's eyes not expressing any emotions.
"This is Malachi, he's an associate of mine", I smiled at him, a very weak smile.
"it's a pleasure to finally meet you" he said in monotonous tone. And offered his hand to me, I looked at it before shaking it, accompanied by another smile. Gosh was I smiling a lot, I should be mourning. The thought of losing my parents then crossed my mind I dropped a tear I tried to wipe it away but it was too late and it landed on his hand. He flinched quickly like they burnt him and pulled away his hand, He shot a look at Jagon as if they were communicating secretly.
"I have to go", he said looking at me but telling Jagon. With that he stormed out of the room left me star struck.
Jagon turned to look at me as the strange yet cute Malachi exited the room, "don't mind him" he said as he pulled a chair for me "sit, I know you haven't eaten anything so have this fruit salad instead", I stared blankly at the dish "for energy" he said. I hesitated for a second and then started eating, the cool salad seemed to cool down my burning heart and the lump on throat went down as I swallowed. Maybe I was just hungry. The next time I meet this Malachi, I should eat first, I made a mental note. Then looked at Jagon
"I Have questions" I said in between spoons
"Go ahead", he said sitting on top of the counter, he was so informal with me and nicer compared to that Malachi
"Does Malachi know what is happening"
"YES"
"What is this place"
He looked up before answering "Think of it as a haven, and feel at home"
"Okay, the people standing outside my door"
"bodyguards"
"And why did you help me, how did you know everything that happened to me? if didn't know any better I would…" I stopped my spoon midway and dropped it into the bowl which was now half empty, "were you following me,"
He looked around the house avoiding meeting my gaze, "for how long? And did my parents know?"
"I can't be specific about the time period, but I assure you your parents were not aware, and the people you call your parents adopted you"
Another bombshell dropped, I looked down at my plate and then back at him, "but they raised me and treated me like their own, so yes they were my parents."
"I know, I didn't mean it like that'
I was a bit hurt and wanted to retract back to bed, but I could not act like a spoiled brat in another person's house.
Jagon And I conversed for hours, I did not even noticed how late it was until I caught a reflection of the moon rising from the between th treesin the compound. It was still an orange color , a full moon. I suddenly realized how tired I was. I stood up yawning and bid goodbyeto Jagon as I retired to the bedroom I had been allocated, now t kind of felt like mine.
Before I left Jagon, said something about a gift in my room. That made me a bit excited, something I had not felt since I had come here. I rushed to my room, and the bodyguards were stil standing at my door.i was never going to get usd to this. But it did help me feel more secure.
The first thing I noticed , was a plate of food natly placed on a tray in my bed, I looked around and then located a box of a brand new phone near desktop desk. Okay the computer was new too. I completely ignored the food and went to sit down at the computer, pulled the wireless headphones beside the phone and went online to listen to msic. I would open the phone tomorrow or later, I really had no one I could text to tell I was fine. No boyfriend.nothing, so listening to music was all I could do
I sat for hours, listening to new songs, halfway before moving to the next one, I was already getting bored. Maybe it was time I went o bed, I thought to myself throeing a quick glance at the bed which ws neatly be, and noticing the plate was still on the bed. I couldn't eat it now, it would probably be cold. I removed the headphones, and started towards the bed, then I saw a shadow passs by quickly. I stpped mid mt tracks, and looked outside, then curtainds were not closed. It was probably nothing I thought as I continued walking to the be, I took the plate and set it on the side table of my bed , moved the sheets, then thud! Another shadow, this timw I saw the souce of the loud soun, it had sounded like someone jumping from a great height and landing on the ground perfectly.
Outside my window, I caught a creature standing on four legs. Looked like a dog, but it was almost as tall as I was. I stopped , stared at it,And I saw it clearly, but I couldn't believe my eyes. I was distraught. I moved back slowly. Stumbled and dropped on the bed
Where should I hide. I looked at the wardrobe, not the bathroom, no one could fine me there, but a piece of me, wanted to look outside again and see if the figure would pass again. Instead of the bathroom, I ran to the door, the bodyguards would be there. But alas there was, no one. Jagon, where was he, I halted as I heard howling, the figure was it really a werewolf, I had only seen them in movies. Would Jagon know what to do, maybe I should go back to the room and hide, but my feet still carried me forward, I bumped into his chest.
"Jagon"
"I breathed heavily, there's a were wolf on the Terrance", I said breathlessly. It sounded ridiculous as it left my lips, a wolf?. Maybe I did not see clearly.
But it wasn't Jagon, it was his associate, he held my hand and pulled me towards my room,
"no"
I screamed, where was Jagon, was this the safety he promised. This man was going to throw me to wolves literally. I cried, and a single drop, landed on his hand and once again he winced where they had dropped, and he let me go.
"I am, trying to help", he said. And I stopped crying and stared into his dark eyes, there was something about them. Then it hit me. The werewolf, could it have been him.no. that's impossible. Werewolves don't exist. But then another howl. I jumped and accidentally fell into his chest. He didn't embrace me, his arms lumped to his sides. He was warm, smelt like a forest after rain and wet sand. I held on tight.
Then I heard a warm hand on my back, I lifted my head to look at his face, but he was looking behind me, so I turned and behind me was Jagon, he opened his arms wide for me to embrace him, and I turned to them. He gently patted me on the head "I know you're scared but it's okay", I looked at him, why was he this calm then turned to look and Malachi he had put his hands in his pockets, like he was bored of my behavior he looked at with disinterest.
I quickly turned to Jagon trying to keep it together, I slowly wiped the tears in my eyes, with the back of my hand. I had become a cry baby. What was wrong with me.
"I should have told you everything" Jagon held me by my shoulder blades and looked into my eyes with his woody brown now, but they weren't brown anymore. They were dark, as dark as Malachi's. What had I landed into? I stayed calm and avoided his gave.
