The entire ritual of the babies making their choices was confusing to Scarlet. She could hardly see what was happening because a cloud of darkness suddenly covered the babies.
The cloud was Lythia's work, this was obvious. Again, Scarlet noticed that everyone was perfectly calm. Minus the excitement in anticipation of the results, they were unbothered.
Her eyes did not for a second move away from the river. They followed the gatekeepers because wherever they were flying above, that's where the children were.
One of the gate keepers raised a blue flag and the guardian reapers broke into a loud cheer.
Scarlet knew that something important had happened. She perused the crowds quickly to understand. Lythia was cheering as if she had scored a winning goal for her team. Some warrior reapers couldn't stand it and they booed the guardians.
