Every once in a while, Esong Wu managed to say the right thing, the thing which made her speechless.
It was exactly that in this moment. Scarlet was bewildered and startled by his sudden statement.
He tugged on her arms, demanding for her full attention. This was not a conversation for cowardice and hiding. He needed to look in her eyes, assure her of his willingness to surrender his everything to her.
He desperately hoped that she was in the same place he was.
"I don't want us to hold back in any way in our marriage because of a contract. Let's be honest, both of us have not exactly been adhering to it's terms. We are behaving like any other man and wife. I don't even recall what we even discussed back then. Do you?"
"No." she answered softly.
She lied, she remembered every detail they discussed because every time doubts about their status clouded her mind and she found herself being carried away by her emotions, she went over it.
