#Chapter Twenty
"Your Ladyship," the Butler said. "Your choice of flowers is excellent." Lachlan scoffed, and Serene knew why. It was his choice of flowers, but since she was the one from upper class, the Butler had chosen to compliment her instead. Serene nodded at the compliment and smiled.
"Thank you," she said.
"White looks great on her, doesn't it, Serene?" Lachlan said
"Yes, I suppose so," she replied, her heart picking up.
"Watch how you address Her Ladyship!" the Butler said, shooting him a nasty look. "She is far above your station."
"It seems that has been said to him far too much, Butler. This servant doesn't want to listen."
"Will you relieve him of his post, Your Ladyship?"
"No, it's quite alright," she said. "Maybe there are other ways to attain his silence."
"Perhaps you could try a gag," Lachlan offered as he stared into Serene's eyes and her legs buckled a little.
"Why yes, a gag, why didn't I think of that?" Serene said. Lachlan reached into his pocket and removed something white and her heart thumped hard in her chest. What was he thinking, taking that out -
It was a handkerchief. He unfolded it, revealing some pressed daisies. "Your Ladyship, white daisies for you."
"I love them," she said. "I wonder what they'd look like on my shoes?"
"They would look splendid," the Butler said.
"Servant," she ordered Lachlan. "Kneel and put them on for me."
