#Chapter Ten
Serene watched Lachlan nudging the stalk of the rose towards the other stalks before he removed it from the vase and set it on the table momentarily to fluff up the other stalks. He took another flower from a pile and added it to the bouquet, and though Serene never had much interest in flowers, she had to admit that she felt the need to have that bouquet in her bedroom, so she could stare at it first thing in the morning everyday. She took more steps towards him and Lachlan looked past his shoulder at her.
"Your Ladyship," he said. He was dressed in a white shirt and silver vest over it, his long legs hugged by slim pants. As she stood before him, the base of her stomach turned and heat spread across her body. Why was she feeling like this?
"Lachlan," she said. "Those flowers look amazing."
He nodded at her. "Thanks."
"You seem to have a talent for flora."
"That's why you hired me, isn't it?" Lachlan said as he removed all the flowers from the vase and put them aside.
"What are you doing?"
He smiled. "Definitely not stripping so you can give your husband a handjob as he stares at my naked body."
Heat filled her cheeks. "Silence! I demand silence from you. I am a noblewoman and you will not speak to me this way."
He shrugged but didn't say anything.
"Which reminds me, Lachlan," she said. "Is the garden ready?"
He faced her and leaned against the edge of the table, a small smile on his lips and his arms folded as he stared at her.
"Well?" Serene said.
He walked towards the door but stopped midway to look at her. With one hand, he gestured towards the door widely with a smile before he continued walking towards it. She followed him and every now and then, he turned back to gesture broadly down the path that led to the garden. When they were finally there, Serene let out a gasp of surprise and awe as she beheld the wonder of the garden. Every tree was neatly shaped and every bush well cut, the beauty of the flowers boasting. It was an exquisite sight.
"This is amazing, Lachlan!" Serene said as she turned back to him
But he only took off his hat and curtsied dramatically in silence with his hands before he left for his shed.
