#Chapter Forty-Five
Kitty sat down at the bridge, dipping her toes into the lake. The water was cold and she reached down to put her hand into it. She turned her palm up and collected some water into it. Hovering it above the lake, she watched the water slowly trickle back into the lake through the gaps in her fingers.
"Kitty," she heard someone behind her say.
She removed herself from the lake and stood up on the bridge, facing him. "Gunner!" Kitty exclaimed as she ran over to him. They embraced each other tightly and tears left her eyes in streams as they joined each other in laughter. "You're everything."
They parted. He ran his fingers through her hair. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Kitty."
She smiled and he wiped the tears from her eyes. "Life without you is so hard."
"I know," he said. "I came back as quickly as I could."
Pricks of water landed on her arms. She looked up at the sky and thunder rolled. "Oh crap, it's going to rain."
He looked up too. "Let's head for shelter."
An ingenious idea struck her. She took a few steps away from him and pulled her dress over her head. Then she removed her panties and dropped it to the floor. Gunner stared at her as she held her hands up towards the sky, the rain pattering down on her, wetting her hair. She spun around and launched off the bridge, into the murky water. Breaking the surface, she swam further in before turning around and inviting Gunner with her eyes.
He broke out into a wide smile and undressed himself. Then he jumped into the water after her and swam towards her. "You're immaculate, Kitty," he said to her.
She swam with him towards the middle of the lake and they approached some pieces of rock. She climbed up onto one and sat on it, gazing at the sky as the rainwater pelted on her skin. "Gunner!" Kitty exclaimed.
He climbed onto the rock after her and they laughed and laughed over the sound of the rain. It was deafening but all they could hear was the sound of their own laughter. He climbed further up and stood up on it before jumping into the water again and Kitty yelled for joy as she jumped in after him.
They swam and swam, getting up onto different pieces of rock, or going back to bridge, or jumping back into the water again amid the heavy rainfall. Night soon fell and as she spent the time with him, her problems faded from her mind and one word pervaded her mind.
Perfection.
