Chapter 24 - Chapter Twenty-Four

"So... Annabeth is connected to "The chosen one"?"

I asked, raising an eyebrow at Chiron as he nodded, looking way too solemn for something such trivial information.

"...Okay, and?"

I asked, raising an eyebrow at him, observing as he furrowed his brows at me.

"What do you mean? We must prepare."

I rolled my eyes. Sure, let me go turn the kid into a killing machine. I'm sure that will turn out just great.

"You expect me to turn a kid that isn't even 10 to take on a Cyclops?"

I asked, deadpanning at him. He paused, looking at me for a moment.

"Well, you could-"

I raised a hand, stopping him from finishing that sentence.

"Don't use me as an example, I'm a very bad example."

Chiron nodded, agreeing with the fact that I wasn't the best measuring stick in the world. Pursing his lips he pondered for a moment, before nodding.

"You are right, Leonidas... What do you suppose we do?"

I tapped the table with my finger, my thoughts whirling in my head for a bit and in the end, I was forced to shrug.

"I could intensify her training regime, but that's only by a little, her body can't handle the higher levels of torture I put the older campers in."

Chiron, smirked, chuckling a bit as he crossed his arms.

"So, you admit that it's basically torture."

Rolling my eyes, I leaned back slightly, looking up at the ceiling.

"I could put her through some simulations and have her attend some higher level classes so she can devise strategies, but until she grows up, that's all I can offer."

Chiron nodded, mulling over my words.

"I can teach her archery..."

He offered, as much as I wanted to roll my eyes at that, it was a good idea. Athena didn't have any obvious powers to begin with, giving her any and all options would be smart.

Unlike the children of Ares, who if they had a stronger connection to their father's domains by essentially winning the genetic lottery, they could access more powers, which didn't happen before because nobody knew how to.

Divinity wasn't like magic and Athena's Divinity was troublesome to begin with.

Her powers were... strategy-oriented, as of now, only one of the Athena Cabin could access a fraction of the power, which already made him a force to be reckoned with.

Annabeth had a lot of potential, but if we hurried that progress more than she could handle, she would break.

I scratched my chin, releasing a sigh as I thought about it for a moment. Prophecies were always troublesome, but come on, this was unnecessarily complicated, just tell me what the hell was happening, no need to be a Picasso about it.

"...I think I need a vacation."

Chiron chuckled in response, not really taking it seriously anymore.

"We don't get paid vacations, my body."

I huffed, running a hand through my hair as I sighed in annoyance. That sucked, I really needed one.

"Alright, I'll think of something, just give me a day or two."

Chiron nodded and I stood up, heading towards the door. I still had a lot to get done, and the things seemed to be adding up every day.

The reality of the situation was dawning more and more every minute.

We were on the brink of war.

It might not be tomorrow or the day after, but it would happen.

With a steady stride, I made my way toward the cabins, I needed to inform the leaders that there would be more strenuous training, they would be pissed, but oh well.

I would have to prepare the more experienced campers and up their training as well. Their divinity would have to be up to par, but it would be doable.

As I walked closer to the cabins, my eyes strayed to the Athena cabin, my attention grabbed by the multiple campers, surrounding Annabeth, who was holding a cap.

My eyes narrowed as my divinity flared slightly, feeling the enchantments on the cap. Invisibility, and it wasn't a temporary one either, it was well made, not by a mortal, either.

So, Athena was trying to pitch in, by motivating Annabeth to hide and try to survive if she was ever in any danger.

Well, that wouldn't do, I would need to take invisibility into account in her training. and add an enchantment that would return her cap to her possession if she ever lost it, or it was taken without permission.

She would be a good combatant, that much was obvious, but if she managed to get a deeper connection with her mother's domain.

Chuckling at her excitement, I made my way into my cabin and looked around, the smaller campers were studying, or at least trying to pay attention to the book that had battle strategies.

Walking towards my bed, I crouched down and grabbed my things from under it. The papers I was working on when my father visited me to demand a quest to be completed.

The schematics were already done... Maybe it would be smart to take this to the forge, just in case. why wait until the last minute only to get a rushed job.

"Thalia came around, looking for you."

I hummed, looking to the side, and seeing Clarisse, looking up at me even when I was on one knee.

"What did she want?"

She shrugged.

"I dunno..."

I smiled, reaching out and ruffling her hair, ignoring her attempts to pull her head away, I stood up.

"Thanks."

She huffed in annoyance, before turning around and walking away, probably towards her own bed.

Making my way out of the cabin, I started making my way toward the forge, I needed a new weapon, and my body would have more time to get used to using it.

I looked down at the drawing on the paper. observing the sword-spear drawn on it, the size, the weight, the length, all calculated and made to my liking.

I didn't know how much time I had left until things started spiraling out of control, so I had to make use of it efficiently.
