Chapter 20 - The same zombie

"Let's split up." Shane suddenly said, causing Blake's eyes to widen in surprise.

"What? Split up?" Blake said in surprise. Though he didn't consider himself as a someone good in strategies, he had watched enough horror movies to know that splitting up in a situation like this never ended well.

Apart from that, this was an apocalypse, and zombies or monsters could attack them at anytime, the best choice would obviously for them to remain together.

Not only does that increase their chances of survival, but it would also make things a lot easier.

"Yeah. Though I'd like if we could all stay together, separating is actually the best choice given our current situation." Shane said, before continuing: "We need to get food, we also need to get the drugs Daisy would need to get better…"

"And it's already evening, the sky is gradually getting darker. If we decide to remain together, we would take too much time getting the food and drugs."

"Those beasts and zombies would probably be more dangerous at night, and there are other things to consider also." Shane said, with a slight frown on his face before continuing: "So let's split up, in order to get all we need faster… before nightfall."

Within a few seconds, Shane explained his reasons for asking them to split up to Blake and Aria, and after listening to him, they couldn't help but find reason in his words.

A slight frown appeared on Blake's face, as he thought about what Shane said.

'Split up huh?' He thought. 'He's right, that's indeed the best choice for us, it's already evening, and we definitely can't delay until night fall.'

"Fine. We'll split up, it doesn't seem like we have much of a choice." Aria said, in a flat and indifferent tone.

After discussing for a few seconds, they finally agreed on a plan. Blake and Aria would head to the pharmacy, and get the drugs, while Shane and Puck would go get the foodstuffs.

According to Shane, there was a store just a few streets away from the warehouse, but it was in opposite direction to the pharmacy, which was the main reason he suggested they split up.

After they finished getting all they needed, they would then meet back here; in front of the warehouse.

"But then are you sure you can handle yourself?" Shane asked, his gaze turning to Blake.

Blake was about to answer, when a certain blonde haired man suddenly cut him off.

"It's his problem if he too weak to handle himself." Puck said, before letting out a low hiss.

However, Blake ignored his words and then answered Shane. "I can."

"Okay, and I don't think I need to say this… but be careful." Shane said, before continuing: "Don't mind Puck, unlike how he might seem, he's actually quite nice."

Blake simply nodded his head in reply, before turning around, along with Aria.

Aria's indifferent eyes lingered on Shane for a few seconds, before she finally started walking away.

'There's something… off about them.' She thought, with a strange glint in her eyes.

"Don't act rashly." She suddenly said to Blake, making sure to keep her voice low.

"Okay." Blake said, nodding his head slightly.

Aria's eyes lingered on him for a few more seconds, before she eventually turned her gaze away, letting out a light sigh.

For the first few minutes, they didn't come across any zombies, neither did they come across any beasts.

'We haven't seen a single zombie… it seems like we were really lucky to find a warehouse in such an abandoned area…' Aria thought, but she still kept her guard up, knowing they were bound to meet one sooner or later.

'Zombies…' Blake mumbled inwardly, as he clenched his fists tightly.

Aria stared at Blake for a second before sighing. 'I know he said he won't act rashly, but why do I feel like he will?'

When they reached the end of the street, a loud growl suddenly drifted into their ears.

Startled, the duo immediately paused their steps, instinctively turning towards the direction where the growl came from.

Their eyes met with that of a tall, bony zombie, with long, thin arms that dangled loosely at its sides. Its hands were very large, with each palm almost as wide as an adult's torso.

It had rotten ashen skin, and its eyes were hollow and sunk in.

'Shit!' Aria thought, and hurriedly hid behind a short brick wall at the side, dragging Blake along with her.

She peeped at the zombie from the side, before heaving a low sigh of relief.

Fortunately, it didn't seem like the zombie had noticed them. It only kept walking to the side, with its long hands dangling around.

The path to the pharmacy was the road ahead, so all they had to do was wait for the zombie to walk away from the place, and they could head to the pharmacy, without wasting any unnecessary energy.

'Seems like we're quite lucky, now we just have to wait… it should only take three minutes at most.' Aria thought.

'But wait a second…' She mumbled inwardly, finally realising that she couldn't feel the presence of Blake who was supposed to be beside her.

'Blake!' She thought, sharply turning her head to the side, only to find the presence of a familiar black haired boy missing!

"Fucking Zombie! I'll kill you!!" A loud shout suddenly drifted into her ears, causing her eyes to widen in shock.

She quickly looked back at the zombie, and just as she expected, the zombie was looking straight in their direction, and standing right in front of it, was Blake!

Meanwhile, red veins popped in Blake's eyes as he stared at the tall, bony zombie. He gnashed his teeth, and his face squeezed into a deep frown.

Even if he forgot the appearance of all the zombies in the world, there was no way he would forget this slender zombie with long, bony arms.

Because this was the exact Zombie… the exact zombie that attacked his mom moments before her death!

"I'll kill you… fucking zombie!" He shouted, before dashing towards the bony zombie in anger.
