Mirabelle can't help but pace around the corridor along with the assistant who isn't allowed in the examination room as they check on Derek's condition.
As much as she's aware of the fact that her real self annoys him, she can't help but want him to be able to see quicker, so he'd get the wish he'd been dreaming of for so long.
To see Serena.
"This will backfire if things go south." The assistant sighs shakily as she runs a nervous hand through her hair while taking her glasses off. "Did this happen whilst you were out?"
"he said it hurt last night." Mirabelle says in a shaky voice as she glances up at the assistant. "It was bleeding only a little... He was so excited that I know it's the reason he didn't want to tell anyone... afraid of the news."
The assistant frowns as she glances at the door and clenches her jaw tightly, wondering why the doctors haven't gotten out to rely the news to either of them.
"THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE SHIT AT YOUR OWN JOB!" Derek's voice is loud a clear, beaming through the doors and into the corridor, startling both Mirabelle and his assistant as they stare at the door in shock. "I don't pay you just to fail!!"
"Damn it...." the assistant curses under her breath as she places her hands at her waist and looks to the floor, defeated. "He's got bad news...."
Mirabelle pales up at the thought and walks to the door, trying to peep in when it's completely useless at this point.
the door then suddenly opens, revealing one of the doctors that had done his surgery a while back, stepping out with a notepad in one hand as he shoves his pen into the pocket on the cheat of his lab coat.
"Is he going to be alright?" the assistant asks as she walks up to the doctor and nearly shoves Mirabelle aside.
After being yelled at by Derek, he frowns deeply at the assistant and the look on his face makes it evident he's not in the mood to engage in any conversation.
though it doesn't seem the assistant is backing out either.
"There is a minor set back in the healing process." the doctor explains as he turns his gaze down to Mirabelle who raises her eyebrows, waiting to hear more. "unfortunately, his eyesight was supposed to return in these expected three days, but due to the injury, it's not going to happen soon as we need to perform another surgery which will be done after his eyes have recovered from the previous surgery."
Mirabelle eases her shoulders as she's somewhat relieved he would still be able to see despite it taking much longer to recover than he intended.
"Okay. thank you." the assistant sighs and glances towards Mirabelle as the doctor walks away, feeling drained from all he has to go through in treating such rich people.
the assistant waits a moment longer for the doctor to step out of ear's reach before leaning down to Mirabelle who moves closer to her to hear what she has to say.
"I will pay you for pretending, just pretend a bit more until Serena comes tomorrow." she whispers as she leans back and gazes into the room where she can spot the infuriated Derek sitting on the edge of the examination bed. "I called her as you left for the garden that he would be restoring his eyesight tomorrow and she agreed to come be with him. So please continue the act for the rest of today."
Mirabelle only stares at Derek through the door in pity when she can tell the amount of distress he must be going through at the moment.
She nods her head softly, knowing it's the least she can do for someone who's been waiting for far too long to get his eyesight back.
Giving her a gentle push inside the room, the assistant urges her forward as she waves her hand, gesturing her to go to him .
she does as told and the assistant closes the the door, leaving the two together since she's well aware this is a moment he'd rather be with Serena and no one else.
"Serena?" Derek asks as he turns his gaze to the door, getting Mirabelle to widens her eyes as she see rhe color of his eyes for the first time.
the deep green color like that of a thick and dense forest nearly engulf her in their glow, despite then being unable to see a thing.
He clenches onto his blanket as his eyes shift to something else the closer she gets to him, making sure not to alarm him in any way.
"Did you hear me?" Derek asks as Mirabelle sits down on the spot beside him and slowly nods her head.
"I did... I'm sorry." she says in a near whisper as she glances down at his hand gripping the blanket tightly to the point his fingers turn pink. she reaches down to his hand and places hers on top of his, getting him to widen his eyes as he feels the warmth pouring onto his.
his tense shoulders finally ease down as he turns his palm facing up to take her hand in his, interlocking their fingers.
"aren't you disappointed?" he asks as he brings his other hand down to hers, tracing circles against her skin. "That it will take much longer for me to be able to see... that is if it will work the next time as well."
"Good things come to those who wait." Mirabelle smiles as she glances up to his eyes, though his eyes are directed to where he links their hands are, she can't help but admire how the light seems to reflect off of them.
"What if my eyesight would never be restored..." Derek says as he takes in a deep breath and lets it out whilst his finger begins to feel the ring around her finger. "... would you... still be with me?"
"in sickness and in health." Mirabelle smiles as she reaches her hand up to his hair and gently pats it reassuringly, taking him by surprise as he'd never had Serena pat his hair before.
yet... it felt nice.
"So you will still marry me? even if I may become a burden?" he asks and she nods slightly staring down at how her hand fit in his.
"You're not a burden, Derek. In sickness and in health, I'll be here." she says, getting him to chuckle and slightly squeeze the hold on her hand.
"is anyone else around?" he asks and she glances around the room, though she knew there really wasn't anyone.
"No, why ask?" she raises a brow and he bites his lower lip as he reaches his other hand up to her chin, giving it a small squeeze.
"You mentioned you were nervous about the assistant being there... since no one is around... mind if I kissed you?"
