Chapter 3 - Vitality: 2

Ryver tapped and held a spot below his ear, on his neck. "Call Yvonne."

[ERROR! Unable To Connect, please try again later.]

The nuclear explosion should have wiped out the Cell Towers within range.

Dismissing the words before his eyes, he scrolled through his interface and went ahead to select the Cybernet option, wanting to find information on what had actually happened.

[Error 3011, currently unable to connect to the server.]

[Solution: Restart the Bionic Smart Lens or move to the closet WiFi location and try again.]

As a worker, Ryver was able to freely connect his Smart Lens.

Although Ryver wasn't surprised when he saw this, an inexplicable feeling overwhelmed him.

"They are not able to monitor me now." Ryver closed his eyes and breathed in deeply as though this was the first real air he had taken in years.

Imagine your everymove, action and even choice of words as well as thoughts being controlled for seven years. Ryver had almost gotten used to it.

After a while, he stared at his wristband, fixated.

"BANG!"

It immediately shattered under the force of his iron blade.

"Barbara is it? My hands know your blood."

Waves of hot air blew from the city to his face as he gazed down at the city. Bands of thick smoke rose from numerous collapsed buildings and cars, moving up to the skies like foggy pillars. The air was filled with yellowish-like particles filling up his lungs as he inhaled.

Ryver stood still for a while, deep in thoughts as to what was happening. First the nuclear explosions, then the zombies and now, all forms of communication are down which meant the satellites are down.

It was perfect.

He wasn't concerned about Lyssa since her mother; Yvonne, could take good care of her in any situation. Only an army could stop that woman.

"736 routine streaks put to an end." He closed his eyes and inhaled. The particles rushed into his nose like a tornado. A thick smell of copper filled his nose making his heart pound rapidly in excitement. His body shuddered but Ryver managed to contain himself.

"Achoo!"

Ryver sneezed and rubbed his nose. The radiation was beginning to affect him. He could feel his body getting warmer and his cells abnormally affected.

'I need a gas mask.'

He had no idea where he could get a gas mask within the company, so he decide to make an alternative.

Grabbing a bottle of water from the shattered office, he tore the middle-aged female's white shirt, soaked it with water and then proceeded to tie the wet cloth around his nose. Finally, he felt as though he could breathe freshly again.

While he could still feel little of the particles entering his lungs, this is still a pretty effective temporary preventive method.

Ryver looked through the shattered glass walls of the skyscraper billowing with smoke and intense cold wind and stared down at the street.

The entire street below was in absolute chaos. Cars had smashed against each other from behind, exploding as they tumbled onto each other

Heavy trucks had been blasted into buildings, pieces and corpses of pedestrians littered the asphalt road, while those that managed to survive the bombings were attacked by other zombie like humans like wolves jumping into a horde of sheeps.

The place was extremely chaotic, filled with blood, smoke and carnage. Humans begging and crying for mercy, praying for forgiveness to whoever was listen while some ran for cover.

They were like headless chickens, trying to avoid death from the insatiable monsters that kept multiplying each second.

Ryver's eyes narrowed. Things are more chaotic than he had expected. But first, he wanted to confirm his conjectures.

He swept his gaze at the closed offices. There were more than 20 private offices on this floor. The twenty private offices took the entire floor since they had their own personal bathroom, bedroom and toilets in there.

This was the benefit of being a mid-ranking worker within the company. And the rooms were no less extravagant than a hotel.

Ryver took out his key card. As a mid-level janitor, this card allows him access to any offices from the first floor to the 49th floor.

The other floor requires a higher level of clearance to access.

Something which Ryver clearly didn't own.

The power had been cut off, but the backup generator wasn't affected by the bombs as it immediately started working.

He walked towards the first room, with 801 written on it and then swiped his card at the door security platform. There was a clicking sound, the mechanism unlocked and the door opened wide.

Ryver quietly walked into the room and was greeted with a very subtle but luxurious looking room. It looked comfy, a little untidy, but it was spacious and grand.

Ryver was familiar with this room since this was his third time cleaning this floor in the past two months.

But there was no one in the bedroom. But Ryver was sure someone was within this room since there were pieces of clothing on the ground, heading to the bathroom. It seemed as though the owner was in a hurry to use the bathroom.

Ryver paused slightly. The person within the room might not have transformed into a zombie since the explosion might not have reached them.

But it doesn't matter if they were undead or not, he could just wanted his 10,000x return.

It was then he heard the repeatedly banging sound from the bathroom door. The bathroom had been built to be soundproof. Nearly all the rooms had been built that way.

Noticed the repeated savage banging sounds from the bathroom. Ryver's eyes flashed in disappointment as he muttered. "Sure enough, it's a zombie."

He opened the door and a naked female zombie with two jiggling sack of potatoes stumbled out from the bathroom.

Ryver closed the door, giving him more space as he went behind the naked lady zombie, he was about to stab the zombie when he noticed something from the corner of his eyes.

Another zombie was actually also inside the bathroom. Ryver's brows rose. "An affair?"

He quickly rolled to the side, as he was upside down with his shoulder to the ground, he flung his blade at the female zombie's head, his roll completed, he stood up and retreated immediately.

The almost naked male zombie immediately followed him, groaning savagely in hunger, its speed a tad bit faster than a regular human.

Ryver could feel that the back of his overall clothing had been scratched, but his skin was unaffected. Otherwise, if he had been scratched, he might actually turn after a while.

The zombie was fast and it was just a few inches away from Ryver when he suddenly dropped to the ground, his legs trapped the zombie's feet between them as he twisted, falling the zombie face flat to the ground.

He stood quickly on his kneels and stabbed the zombie through the back of its neck.

He kicked at the male zombie's body and his body shifted backwards, avoiding the lunge from the naked female zombie who had gotten up.

The female zombie still had the rod stuck in her head l. The force Ryver had thrown the rod wasn't enough to stab through its skull and got stuck in the skull bone.

As the female zombie fell to the ground, the handle of the sharp shirt rod hit the ground, absorbing enough force to pierce through the skull, effectively killing the naked female zombie.

Ryver got up swiftly but saw the female zombie had stopped moving. In a while, he realised the reason. Removing his weaoksy from the skull of the zombies, it proved a tad difficult, but in a single yank, it was removed.

"It would have been easier with a gun." Ryver mumbled but he knew there was no way he would be able to get through security with a gun and that was if he was able to find one in the first place. The security within Mega-tech was super tight.

After making sure there weren't any more surprises, Ryver poured himself a glass of whiskey, opening his nose mask, he gulped down all of its content, he squinted and then groaned slightly in satisfaction. He then spoke after clicking his tongue.

"Open notification."

[You eliminated 2 Zombies, user has received

[Ding! User has received a Nuclei]

[ Ding! 10x fold return has been successfully triggered!]

[ You have obtained a Mutated Nuclei!]

[Search body to receive loot.]

This time it was only a ten times return. Ryver expressionlessly searched through the skull of the two corpse, finally finding the Nuclei within the well endowed female's heart.

Turns out not all Zombies have Nuclei in them.

Now, it had gotten to this juncture, Ryver could finally consume the Nuclei He would finally figure out if he had been immersed in a virtual world or if he was truly in the real world. No matter how close a virtual world might be to the real world, it can never replicate the feeling of reaching two points in an attribute.

Immediately, Ryver popped the two Nuclei and swallowed after chewing and savouring its fragrance.

[Vitality 1.90… +0.01]

[Vitality 1.91… +0.01]

[Vitality 1.92… +0.01] ...

[Vitality 1.99… +0.01]

At first, Ryver felt nothing as the vitality attribute kept increasing by 0.01 but as his vitality attribute reached 1.97, he felt his body growing warmer and warmer. He could feel an intoxicating warm stream of energy flowing through his body rapidly like a snake. The current started increasing bit by bit as it circulated his body, increasing his attribute.

[Vitality 2.0]

Crash!
