Chapter 26 - A New Level through Pain[Bonus chapter]

However, Dan's frantic rage on the battlefield was brought to an abrupt end as arrows from nowhere anyone was looking, found themselves nailing into his body.

The shots had been precise, hitting points that Gray could tell were very calculated to deal maximum damage to a person like Dan.

After all, Dan was displaying an incredibly rare bloodline ability.

Two arrows had lounged themselves, one each in his knees, bursting out of the other side.

Immediately, Dan was forced to fall on his face.

Nevertheless, his rage like a flood that would not be stopped etched him on.

Using his arms, he crawled towards Denver.

Dan's eyes had become blood red with veins. They carried his rage and pain. This was not pain from his legs but pain from his heart, arresting his sense of reasoning like a blanket in the cold.

He continued forward. However, two more flew in the air as they lounged into his shoulders.

Gray had watched as this happened.

He turned and looked in the direction that the arrows had flown in from. It had all come from Andrew who had been polishing his bow on the tree top.

Gray, because of his many adventures in his previous life, could tell that Andrew had good knowledge of the anatomy of the body.

It was not just joints that added movement that had been his target but also precise veins that carried blood through the limbs.

Dan might have been a berserker, but he was too low-level, and had little control over his Bloodline ability.

If it were Berserkers of a much higher rank, it would have been easier, as those had the ability to heal rapidly in this state, but Dan was still very far from that stage.

His blood flowed from his body, and with it, he was forced to revert back to his normal human form.

Tears fell from his eyes and mixed with the blood and sand on the ground as he screamed, his eyes on his mother, still wriggling on the ground like a worm.

He so badly wanted to reach her, to hold her, to save her.

Denver held eye contact with Dan before her body slowly but surely stopped moving.

Her still gaze as life alienated her body crested itself in his eyes.

As Dan screamed in his pain, Gray also broke to the ground in tears. At the same time, his own Bloodline ability also activated itself.

Just like it had that time in the forest when he had saved Duster, his younger brother from Goji.

Others could not see it, but a dark miasma of energy flowed in the air as they rushed into his body. His eyes changed colors, alternating between his normal Gray, and the red of blood.

A sudden pain attacked Gray from the center of his body and he fell to his knees.

When he raised his head, he could see that the black miasma was also flowing in from the Werewolf women that were being assaulted by the men around him, but the one that flowed in from Dan was worse.

It was also the thickest.

From the look of things, those from the women had been flowing in all the while, but he had not noticed because he was too distracted by his family being hurt.

"What is this?" Gray thought to himself as he held his stomach tight to the ground.

He felt as if glass crystals with pointy edges had been poured into his bloodstream, every beat of his heart, increasing their rush through his veins, creating microscopic cuts as they rushed all over his body.

Gray had felt pain in his life, but never had he felt pain like this. With the pain came an increase in anger, and the chains about his neck rushed electricity into his body, but his Werewolf nature couldn't be calmed down.

The anger permeated his bones, and then it rushed into his head, rage like the storm of the ocean.

If he was not in more pain than he was angry, he would have rushed and fought like his elder brother.

It was only at this point that a realization came to him.

Gray raised his head slightly as he stared at the people hurting around him. Whether it was the excruciating pain or it was the anger, it was all not his. It was all from them, bombarding and begging him through the Bloodline to fulfill their rage, to avenge their pain.

He suddenly felt the scar on his chest burn and then another scar burned itself on his chest like the claws of an animal.

Gray suddenly heard a deep crack in his mind, at the same time, a Hunter walked up to Dan and hit him on the back of the head with a rod.

Instantly, he fainted.

The moment Dan was knocked out, Gray suddenly felt the bulk of pain and anger disappear. it was like it had never been there in the first place, relief washed over him.

Gray breathed heavily, he did not know what had happened, but he could tell two things.

Firstly, even though the night was still cold, he was sweating as if he had been soaked in water.

Secondly, that shatter in his mind, "Did I just break through to level one!?" Gray asked himself in surprise.

However, he couldn't dwell on it more. At the moment, they were far more important things.

At this moment, only Cherry and him had consciousness. At least, he assumed that Dan and Rose were not dead regardless of the degree of their injuries.

Gray had killed hundreds of Werewolves in his former life. Dan and Rose might not look like it, but he could tell that they were very tough. This was most true for Rose.

After the anger and intense pain had washed through him, Gray raised his head to see that his mother, Denver, was no more.

Right now, an angry Hunter had carried a machete forward. He was going to behead Dan.

The idea that he might lose yet again another person that he loved pushed Gray and he...
