Nathan found himself in an interrogation room, even though he was not a suspect, he still had to testify. It was only an hour after a policeman had questioned him that the door opened again.
Nathan looked up while yawning and met Enarys' gaze. They were both completely silent until Enarys smiled. "I didn't know you liked to frequent brothels" she said with a smirk.
"I don't" Nathan sighed. "It was just a coincidence, can we go?"
Enarys just smiled amusedly in silence.
A few minutes later, they were both in an armored van headed for the mansion. It was supposed to be his day off, but he never expected to have to give statements about an incident where it was simply coincidence that he was so close to it.
"That man's essence was out of control" Nathan said as he looked out the window.
Enarys who was in the passenger seat looked at Nathan who was riding in the back. "What are you insinuating?"
Nathan looked at the driver and when Enarys saw his gaze she nodded indicating that it was safe to talk.
"I could feel it slightly when I touched...it was the same thing I felt being close to your sister" Nathan explained remembering what he had felt in his hand when he touched the man moments before he died.
Enarys had already been told what had happened, and she had seen the body herself. But what Nathan had just said was something that was not included in his statement, and he thought it would be better to explain it to Enarys personally.
Enarys looked straight ahead and remained silent for the rest of the journey.
The next day Nathan arrived at Erina's room again and as usual stood in the living room waiting for her to finish getting ready.
'Are you sure you want to continue doing this every day?' asked Amelia seeing Nathan looking paler than usual.
'I don't want to... but work is work, and Enarys helped me get out of Aeterna territory…" Nathan smiled. 'I know you're getting some good feasts these days'
'...' Amelia was silent with nothing to say.
Shortly after, Nathan heard the voices of Erina's maids and knew they were coming. When Erina came up behind the maids and realized that Nathan had already arrived, she lowered her head so as not to meet his gaze.
"H-hello, Nathan" Erina murmured nervously.
Nathan sighed inwardly and smiled warmly. "Good morning, Lady Erina"
Normally, Erina would go to breakfast and then read quietly in the living room. But this time Nathan was surprised to see Erina look up and look him straight in the eyes.
"I-I, I want to ask you a favor" Erina murmured, nervously but earnestly.
"A favor?" asked Nathan visibly confused.
She nodded her head several times. "I want to stop being a problem for my family. I want you to help me control...whatever it is that's wrong with me"
Nathan's eyes widened in surprise at Erina's sudden request. However, he quickly calmed down and smiled with denial. "I don't think I'll be able to help you. I'm sorry"
"I know I have little time left..." murmured Erina, surprising Nathan again. From what Enarys had told her, Erina had no idea that her time was limited until she got essence.
Seeing Nathan's expression, Erina smiled, "It looks like my sister told you. I know the moment I get essence my body is going to self-destruct from the inside"
Nathan remained silent. The man who had died the day before would be a close description of what could happen to Erina.
"Still..." said Nathan not knowing what to answer her.
"Anything will do... no matter how small! You are the first person with essence able to resist being near me for so long... maybe a miracle will happen" said Erina with hope marked in her voice.
'There is no such thing as a miracle' Nathan thought but did not say it out loud.
"We can try... but I can't promise anything" Nathan said skeptically.
At that instant Erina smiled broadly and without thinking suddenly hugged him, but a second later she regretted it and pulled away with a totally flushed face.
"S-sorry" Erina said almost shouting before pulling away.
Nathan bit his lips feeling worse than ever. The direct contact with Enarys was simply a shock of pain throughout his body, still he resisted and stood.
'Hmmm, looks like you conquered a princess' said Amelia having fun with Nathan's current situation as if she was watching a soap opera.
'Shut up' thought Nathan with a long internal sigh. He was aware of how Erina felt but didn't give it much thought. 'She's a girl who lived her whole life locked up... it would have been me or anyone else and she would have fallen in love anyway'
'How boring' said Amelia.
'Just give her time, she'll get over it eventually' sighed Nathan trying to recover from the recent pain.
'You don't understand us women' mentioned Amelia, to which Nathan just tilted his head wearily.
'Anything you want to say?' asked Nathan watching as Erina opened her book and began to read.
'Nope, nothing'
