Chapter 128 - I am not your enemy

Nathan did not know the history between Dilliard and the man, but judging from their conversation, he could guess that they were colleagues when Dilliard still belonged to the government.

Nathan looked at his master beside him, who kept a serene smile on his face.

"Who is he?"

"A former subordinate of mine, Private Eugene...although he seems to be a general now"

Nathan looked at the man again.

Judging Eugene's rank within the government, Nathan guessed he must be third rank, something only Dilliard here could deal with.

Then Nathan finally understood why they had decided to divide Khan's generals into different zones.

As far as he knew when he was still with his family, there were a couple more generals in the government than in Khan, which meant they had technically greater fighting strength, not counting his father Byron Aeterna and his sister, Faye Aeterna.

Still, no matter how many third rank people they had, the government not only had to deal with Khan, but also with calamities, so they had to keep some third rank generals in reserves in case a calamity of a similar rank, or a large group of them, showed up.

"I'll be back in a bit" Dilliard declared before addressing the other Khan members below the wall.

"Resist! Fight! And kill!"

They all began to shout hysterically into the air, then as if they had been given a shot of adrenaline, they began to run towards the dozens of agents who had arrived alongside Eugene.

It was then that Nathan felt a slight rush of air next to him and realized that Dilliard had disappeared, then he tried to find Eugene and realized that he was not present on the government side either.

Knowing that they would be facing each other personally far away from the main fight, Nathan stopped thinking about them and focused on the fight that was about to unfold.

It was only a few dozen meters before the two sides would meet, but Nathan wasn't curious about their combat either, so he turned and looked to the other side of the wall, where he was beginning to see black dots approaching towards them.

'Are they going to play a three-way war?' asked Amelia.

Nathan hesitated for a few seconds before answering.

'I suppose so, although I doubt the calamities care about one side or the other'

No doubt the number of casualties was going to be large, but it was something Khan was willing to accept for the sake of gaining control of the city.

However, Nathan still could not understand what the motive behind all this was, he could not understand Marlon's thoughts, nor did he care.

'I'm getting out of here before they get too close' Nathan thought mentally before he started to climb down the wall and walk to a different side from where the fighting had started.

'Where are you going to go?'

'To my own battlefield'

Saying that, Nathan entered a nearby alleyway, walking away from the euphoric war cries that could be heard like distant echoes.

At some point, Nathan stopped hearing the battle cries, then, while still in the city's alleyways, he heard some grunts approaching him.

Peeking out of another alleyway, a chimpanzee-like calamity appeared, a little shorter and skinnier than the animal he knew existed on earth.

The calamity looked at him and growled without daring to move, as if it was waiting for something.

Nathan sent his head back slightly in annoyance and looked at the calamity in front of him wearily.

"I'm really not in the mood"

The calamity heard him and began to make a monkey-like sound, as if it were trying to communicate with him.

It was then that from the same alley from where he had appeared, a dozen more calamities peeked out.

"They finally made it to the party"

Unsheathing his katana, Nathan filled it with essence and pointed it at the chimps.

"I guess I'll let off some steam with you guys as I test my strength"

The chimps didn't understand his words, but they could sense the intent in them, so they quickly became enraged and began to beat their chests as if trying to intimidate him.

Nathan smiled, and in an instant summoned Adan's black fang in his free hand, then swiftly threw it, piercing the skull of one of the chimps.

"What are you waiting for? If you don't come I will!"

In another part of the city, where the distant roars of calamities could be heard, several government agents were evacuating the anxious citizens, who had panicked because of the beginning of the second wave.

Among those government agents, a young woman with a tender face and gentle appearance was guiding the citizens with a serious but calm expression on her face.

"Don't bunch up and keep going this way!"

Keeping calm, Lynn continued to help the civilians along with a few other agents, close to her, Tana was observing the direction where the roars were coming from.

"What do you think, Captain?"

Beside her, Faye kept her eyes closed in silence. Hearing Tana's question, she opened her eyes and also observed the direction of the roars.

"What a nuisance, I don't understand why I wasn't sent to the front line"

Tana looked at Faye fixedly.

"Is it true that Khan is attacking our posts?"

Faye looked at Tana and sighed, knowing it was useless to hide it.

"It's possible, yes"

At that moment, Lynn approached them having finished guiding most of the cities to the safe zones.

"What do we do now?"

Faye looked at the backs of the departing citizens and suddenly turned her head quickly looking across the street.

Seeing her react that way, both Tana and Lynn also looked at the alley Faye was fixated on.

"What's wrong, Captain?" asked Lynn.

Remaining silent, Faye snorted a couple of seconds later and unsheathed the sword at her hip.

At that moment, Nathan appeared walking out of the darkness of the alley, the edge of his katana and his mask stained in blood.

The three young women recognized him instantly, and all three had different but slightly similar expressions.

As he left the alley, Nathan stopped when he reached the sidewalk opposite them and looked back at them.

No words were needed, both sides felt what they were supposed to feel, but on Nathan's side there was nothing but indifference.

'Are you sure?' Amelia asked him.

'Not at all... if this goes wrong then my own sister is going to cut my head off'

A soft chuckle came from Nathan's mouth, a chuckle that was clearly heard across the street, causing a grimace to appear on Faye's face.

"Looks like you have enough guts to show up in front of me"

Nathan cocked his head slightly.

"Guts? It's not that"

It was then that everyone looked at the end of the street when they sensed something.

"I'm not your enemy" Nathan said looking at the calamities appearing at the end of the street.

Faye had also sensed the calamities approaching, but instead of focusing on them she just stared at Nathan.

"What's to stop me from killing you before they get here?"

Nathan shrugged.

"You're free to try"

No sooner had those few words left his mouth than Faye disappeared from his vision, then his head was neatly severed from his body before he fell to the ground with a slightly surprised expression.

A moment later, Nathan turned and blocked Faye's incoming attack with his katana.

Only blocking her attack, Nathan felt as if the entire weight of the world was falling on him, but he simply snorted and sneered.

"How was it?"
