In a cafeteria in the middle of the city, overlooking a park where people were walking calmly as if no cataclysm had occurred, Nathan was drinking a coffee while staring at a book in front of him.
It had been eight years since he had used the relic he had gotten from the church. At that time, he had used it to translate what was written on the walls of the house, but after that time, he had not had the need to use it.
Nathan looked through the pages of the diary, remembering the history of the town and the last moments of life that the owner of the diary had written. The man (or woman) who adored his lady.
Just reading the diary gave him chills, as it made him remember what he had lived through back then.
Next to the diary was a letter whose contents he could not understand, but comparing what was written in both the diary and the letter, Nathan could tell that they were the same language.
Looking at both, Nathan periodically tapped the table unconsciously with his finger.
'What do you think?' Amelia asked seeing him so hesitant.
Nathan snorted amusedly.
'Are you really asking?'
'I was just saying it out of politeness...'
Since Amelia could read his thoughts, she knew exactly what was bothering him so much.
'I understand your doubts, but if you don't understand the contents of the letter, your doubts will only multiply'
Nathan nodded. He was both curious and afraid of the contents of the letter, but he knew that if he decided not to read the letter, the anxiety would eat him up inside.
Sighing, Nathan drank his remaining coffee and took the diary in his left hand and flowed essence into it, then, just like eight years ago, the diary began to glow, and the words began to translate over what was already written.
He began to read the content of the diary that had been burned into his mind at the time, then, seeing that the content was the same as the one he remembered, Nathan took a white sheet of paper and began to translate the letter.
The letter was not long, so it did not take him more than twenty minutes to translate it completely. Then he put aside the diary and put the letter inside it and took the sheet of paper where he had done the translation.
'Well... let's see'
'Winter 376 of the Yeroal era. All troops, those who have managed to successfully infiltrate the unknown land are assigned the mission to find a way to unite the two worlds. Whoever succeeds, his majesty the king will reward them personally. Sender: Captain Freyser'
The moment he finished reading the letter, Nathan was silent trying to think of something, it was then that he remembered to read something similar between the letter and the diary, so he opened the diary again and looked at the first page.
"Shit..." Nathan couldn't help but speak out loud as he realized the connection between the letter and the diary.
'How old is... almost 350 years?'
In itself, Nathan would not have been able to realize the relationship between these were it not for the fact that on both was written the date on which they had been written.
'Yeroal era... shit, they're from the same world'
Pressing his forehead tiredly, Nathan closed his eyes thoughtfully.
'Ring any bells, Amelia?'
Amelia thought about it for a few seconds but then denied.
'I not sure... I don't really remember much about back then'
Nathan nodded at her words and reread the letter.
'Troops... unknown land... connecting both worlds. Then that portal...'
As far as Nathan knew, the realms inside the rifts were once part of a world that now lay destroyed in several pieces, but after seeing the portal, the large army behind the portal and the snake man who was trying to open the portal. Nathan confirmed that there were still living beings in that world other than the calamities.
Sighing, he raised his head and looked at the park in front of the café.
'...Are we being invaded?'
Nathan had escaped from the warehouse area after dropping the bomb on the other side of the portal. He didn't know what had happened after that, but just remembering the ice that spread for a kilometer around, he realized that something had definitely crossed over.
Not more than an hour had passed since he had left the meeting, where he had learned that Khan would basically declare war on both the government and the Aeterna. But now he had learned of the possible invasion from another world.
"Haha..."
A slight chuckle came out of his mouth as he watched the people in the park.
'What are we going to do?' asked Amelia.
Nathan just shook his head as he closed his eyes again.
'What should we do...? No idea' Nathan opened his eyes and held the translated letter, lifting it up to his eye level to avoid looking at the park. 'Who am I to do anything?'
Sighing, Nathan kept both letters inside the diary and the diary inside his coat, then got up from and walked out of the cafeteria.
As soon as he left, he stood at the entrance and took his cell phone out of his pocket before dialing a number and crossing the street at the same time.
Nathan arrived at the park and just then, Enarys answered his call.
"It's rare that you call me" Enarys said amusedly.
"I need to talk to you" Nathan was direct and didn't bother to beat around the bush.
"...Well, tell me"
"No, it can't be over the phone"
Enarys was quiet for a couple of seconds, then finally nodded.
"Okay, give me your location, I'll be there in a little while"
Nathan hung up the call and sent his location to Enarys, all the while continuing to walk through the park.
Silently, he began to stroll through the park enjoying the peaceful surroundings, amusing himself by thinking about how happy the people around him were.
'I used to be like that myself'
'Like what?
Nathan lifted his gaze and looked at the blue sky, where the gray clouds were approaching from the distance.
'Happy in ignorance... I guess it's too late now'
