Chereads / Death Premonition / Chapter 92 - Sincere gratitude

Chapter 92 - Sincere gratitude

Nathan had no intention of staying to see the outcome, he didn't know if his father and Dilliard would be enough to deal with the calamity, but there was nothing he could do.

Syril took him to the temporary barracks that had been built two months ago, and when they arrived, dozens of eyes rested on him.

The soldiers and cadets preparing for any emergency or call stopped what they were doing and focused completely on Nathan.

Like Syril, they were all completely surprised that Nathan was still alive, and that his body was still intact... at least his limbs were still intact.

Nathan ignored the stares he had long since become accustomed to in the Khan facility and followed Syril into a three-story building.

Once Syril had closed the door behind her, Nathan could finally sigh and took off his mask, seeing that there was no one inside the building. During the time he had spent alone hunting for calamities in the corridors of the castle, he had become accustomed to not wearing his mask, so he wanted to take advantage of the moments when he was alone to rest.

Syril approached Nathan and began to point out various parts of the building.

"There's a bathroom over there and a room over there, the doctors will be with you in a while"

Nathan listened to Syril... or at least he pretended to as his mind stopped when Syril said bathroom.

Without a second thought Nathan ran up the stairs and into the bathroom.

A minute later his body was under the hot water of the shower.

Looking up with his eyes closed, Nathan enjoyed the feeling of the dirt running down his body.

For two months he had not been able to shower, so right now his skin was full of dried blood and dirt. In addition, the smell emanating from his body was anything but pleasant.

The water at his feet turned red and ran down the drain while everything filled with steam.

'Aren't you forgetting something?'

Nathan opened his eyes, remembering that Amelia was still inside his mind, but he just shrugged and continued washing his hair.

'Just don't look... at all this, how are you feeling?'

Amelia ignored Nathan's words but focused on answering as she watched the bathroom behind the glass of the shower.

'I...' Amelia was mid-sentence, not knowing what to say properly.

Seeing that she didn't say anything, Nathan lifted his arm and looked at the silver bracelet on her wrist.

'Amelia?'

Suddenly, he began to hear faint moans... no, it was crying.

Amelia began to cry inside his mind, and for the first time since he had known her, Nathan somehow felt her feelings inside himself.

Nathan frowned slightly at the sensation of feeling something that did not come from him inside his mind, but then Amelia spoke.

'J-just... thank you, thank you so much'

Hearing Amelia's thanks, Nathan lowered his arm and closed his eyes again. If he had any doubts about Amelia's existence before, he was now sure that the woman was just a person locked inside a bracelet, who had been wandering for hundreds of years inside a realm full of calamities in a desolate environment.

Nathan left Amelia to unburden her mind while he finished bathing.

Almost half an hour later Nathan came out of the bath wearing a Khan cadet suit. Then he found Syril carrying a couple of plates full of food to the table.

Nathan's eyes immediately sparkled.

Not only hygiene, but food had also been the main problem in the realm.

Eating calamity meat was the only way he could survive... but it was nowhere near appetizing.

Nathan did not hesitate to sit down and begin to devour the contents of the plates that Syril had just left on the table.

Syril simply watched Nathan devour the food and shrugged.

"Yeah, go ahead"

Small tears gathered at the edges of Nathan's eyes as he ate a piece of beef.

'Ah... real food at last'

'Now I'm jealous that I don't have to eat...' Amelia complained, seeing real food for the first time in dozens of years.

Nathan just mentally scoffed and continued to eat his fill.

From time to time, he glanced at the window that overlooked the crater and the great castle. Almost an hour had passed since he had returned from the realm, but everything was still strangely peaceful.

Nathan hoped that by now all hell would have broken loose. But for some reason nothing had happened.

'Never mind, let it happen what has to happen'

As if invoking fate, suddenly a high-pitched sound echoed throughout the place. For tens of kilometers around, the sound reached most of the outskirts and all the people were forced to cover their ears.

The weaker mundane humans fainted directly.

Nathan had to use the little essence he had regenerated to withstand the singing slightly better.

His heart began to pound as he slowly turned his head towards the window.

High in the sky, a huge whale was circling over the castle.

'Shit... of course that came with us too'

Ever since that day Nathan had seen the Behemoth he had been busy and although he never forgot the existence of such a being, the memory simply never crossed his mind again.

"What the fuck is that?!"

Syril ran to the window and looked out at the great whale floating dozens of miles in the air.

Nathan got up from the table and like her walked over to the window to get a better look at the large whale.

"It's a Behemoth"

Syril turned to look at him incredulously.

"A what?"

Nathan replied without looking at her.

"What you heard, a Behemoth. Those beings that bring chaos and destruction to the world"

Secretly, Nathan scoffed at himself. He had identified the whale as a Behemoth, but he wasn't even sure if it really was one. But seeing its size it wasn't wrong to think so.

Syril blinked several times without fully comprehending its words.

"Y-you... How did you survive?"

Nathan shrugged.

"It's not really aggressive... or at least it wasn't within the realm"

'You had to talk...' Amelia whispered in his mind.

Nathan just smiled anxiously hoping his words wouldn't incite fate to be a bitch to him again.

But even after a minute, the whale just flew into the air above the castle, making not only those present anxious, but the whole world who were beginning to discover the existence of a new Behemoth on earth via live television.

Although Nathan had already seen the whale once before, the mere sight of its colossal size and mystical existence was enough to make him both shocked and pale.

If Nathan was sure of one thing, it was that a single attack from the Behemoth would completely destroy the outskirts, wiping out any life, no matter if it was a mundane civilian or someone of third rank.

That was superior power, something no human had ever achieved.
