Chereads / Death Premonition / Chapter 72 - Return the favor

Chapter 72 - Return the favor

Nathan hesitated as he listened to Mary and the others' plans. Hunting a calamity of the third rank was far beyond his possibilities, maybe they could do it together, but honestly, it seemed a bit difficult.

Of all those present, the only one he didn't know was the brown-haired woman who sat silently with her eyes closed and with a bored expression. Nathan didn't think the woman was a third rank, as these were rare enough in comparison to the large number of third rank calamities that should exist in the castle.

Either way, Nathan simply remained silent as he listened to the conversation.

"Just like that?" Herfir asked as he saw that Mary didn't really seem to have a plan.

Mary nodded with a slight smile on her face.

"We don't need more, we just get to him and kill him. The more we are the easier it will be"

Nathan frowned slightly, after all it was common knowledge that to take on a third rank calamity individual strength mattered more than numbers.

If a hundred first-ranked people all faced a third-ranked calamity at the same time, they would surely all die in less than five minutes. Such levels of power could not be overcome by numbers or willpower.

But Mary was saying the opposite, and for this reason Nathan could not help but doubt her words.

Herfir seemed to have the same doubtful thoughts as Nathan.

"You make it sound so simple, but getting to him is going to be the hardest part. As physically weak as it is, it's his hallucinations that are the problem"

The new information from the calamity simply gave Nathan more doubts.

"Hallucinations? What kind of calamity is it?"

Within the calamities he knew of, there were few that could use hallucinations, but he didn't recall any that were of the third rank.

Usually, first and second rank calamities were the best known and most recorded, while third rank calamities were still a long way from being recorded. That was why the third rank calamities were so dangerous, not only because they were so powerful, but also because almost nothing was known about them.

Mary looked at Nathan.

"Right, we haven't told you about the calamity"

Herfir sat back down as he sighed and began to explain instead of Mary.

"As far as we know, the calamity uses the red mist to create hallucinations which can harm us but we cannot hurt them"

Nathan mentally scoffed.

'How absurd... A calamity that can kill you, but we can't kill it? Do you know anything about this, Amelia?'

Amelia denied after thinking for a couple of seconds.

'I didn't know the mist came from a calamity'

Understanding that Amelia knew nothing about the strange calamity, Nathan listened to Herfir again.

"If we can't even cross the hallucinations, we can't get to her main body let alone kill it"

Fighting such a calamity sounded rather problematic to Nathan, but he knew that since he couldn't help in any way, that problem didn't fall on his shoulders.

"Well, I wish you luck dealing with that"

Mary suddenly smiled amusedly and put her hand on his shoulder.

"Who says you won't help?"

"Huh?"

Nathan shivered slightly as he felt the gaze of everyone in the room.

"Not in my wildest dreams could I take on a third rank calamity, what am I supposed to help with?"

Mary snorted.

"Didn't I tell you the most we are, the easiest It will be? Don't worry, you'll only help us get to the main body, we'll take care of the rest"

Nathan swallowed nervously.

He really didn't feel like facing such an opponent, but under the pressure of everyone he could only remain silent without complaint before sitting down at the round table.

'Damn it... Why is everything so complicated?'

Mary had helped him before, for that reason Nathan felt somewhat indebted to her. But there was no point in returning the favor if he ended up dead from eating more than he could chew.

Crossing his arms, Nathan remained silent while he listened to the rest of Mary's and Herfir's plan.

'Are you sure? You can just escape...' Amelia whispered softly into his mind.

Nathan pulled his head back slightly.

'Yes... but if I do, I will surely make enemies with everyone in this place'

Nathan's gaze swept over everyone present.

Among them all, the only one he could fight was Herfir, who was third category, maybe Roderick too. But against Mary and Seinor he simply could not compare.

As for the mysterious woman, Nathan did not know her level. He could feel some essence in her body, but this told him almost nothing.

Sighing, Nathan simply sat still and slid slightly back in his chair.

'It doesn't matter... if I don't have to face the calamity directly then there might not be much of a problem'

No matter how much he was told some of the calamity's characteristics, Nathan couldn't know what he was up against without facing it directly. So, he remained silent and waited for the time to pass.

Preparing to fight a third rank calamity was not easy, it required a lot of preparation and a concrete plan. For this reason, it was only a week after Nathan had learned of the plan that it finally began to be implemented.

After a month in the upper realm, Nathan was going to face a third rank calamity for the first time, although he really hoped it would be the last time.

In total, counting those who were inside the room, 7 other people who were inside the safe zone were going to face the calamity.

All of them were of the first rank between first and second category.

Nathan did not understand what Mary was thinking, it was as if she was leading them to their death, so Nathan just remained silent and then it was time to face the calamity.

In front of the lift, Mary looked at everyone with a calm and relaxed expression as if they were about to go on a picnic, not face a third rank calamity.

"Alright boys, let's kill that bastard and get the hell out of this place once and for all"

Nathan didn't know what to say, he really hoped it would be worth the effort they were going to make to take down the calamity. Although he doubted very much that by killing it, they would be able to escape from the realm.

In any case, Nathan mentally prepared himself and entered the lift with his sword on his back.
