The colossal whale just circled quietly over the snowy mountain range without approaching the castle.
But the calamity was really far away, hundreds of kilometers away. Its body was simply so huge that Nathan could see it perfectly.
It was no different from a blue whale on the earth, at least as far as its shape was concerned. The calamity had three fins on each side of its body in comparison to the single fin of the blue whale. It had six separate eyes in rows of three and three on each side of its head and, most special of all, its skin, instead of being a normal color, looked as if it were the universe itself.
Nathan felt as if he was looking through a telescope, seeing galaxies moving in the whale's body.
Absorbed in the Behemoth, Nathan began to laugh, holding his stomach as his back buckled with laughter.
A minute later he calmed down and looked back up at the whale that was still swimming calmly in the sky.
"Really... and I thought I was strong"
Over the last few years, Nathan had been gaining strength day by day, when he awakened his technique and when he felt his essence were the turning points.
As much as Nathan was a first rank second category, getting closer to the third category every day, he felt he could face much more than he could before. It wasn't until he encountered the calamities of third rank that he realized that his thinking was quite stupid.
But now... now simply everything he had built up so far collapsed.
"Is this an upper rift? Now I understand why there have been three cataclysms"
Nathan couldn't imagine any human... No, he couldn't imagine humanity itself fighting something like that whale.
Even with the other two Behemoths that were on record, they were big... but not as big as the whale. Still, it was a greater danger to humanity than a nuclear war.
Both Behemots lived in the unpopulated areas of the earth, areas they had conquered after escaping from their respective realms.
If he had felt inferior before, now he simply felt like a completely empty and non-existent existence compared to beings that could be considered gods.
Suddenly his eyes widened slightly.
"Ah... that's right. Gods"
The old religions that had disappeared from the earth over the years, even the new ones that had appeared, all worshipped a god or several.
Omnipotent and omniscient beings. Beings of unimaginable power... such as the whale flying in the sky.
Fourth rank, maybe fifth? Even higher than that? Was that even possible?
Nathan was having a lot of fun watching the whale in the sky, only the existence of such a being had broken his way of seeing the world... one could say that it had helped him to wake up.
Nathan stretched his hand upwards, pointing at the whale.
Until now, he had simply lived for the sake of living. Since the day he had escaped from the facility, he had wandered aimlessly along the paths that life had given him, but in the end, he had no fixed goal.
Then, as he glared at the colossal whale, an idea came to his mind.
"Can I become a god?
Nathan tried to imagine himself having unlimited power, he imagined himself on top of the world, but then he realized something else.
What makes a God a God?
Nathan crossed his arms looking for an answer but gave up after a few seconds. For millennia, millions of people had asked the same question, but none of them had come up with the answer.
Many people had a different definition of a God... but in the end it was only a personal belief, an own form of faith.
But Nathan wanted something more exact, he wanted to know if a God was like that whale, or maybe something more normal, like a being in the form of a human, but with an immeasurable power inside its small body.
A moment later Nathan laughed again and sighed while he shook his head.
"It's not like me to be so philosophical"
Nathan stared at the large whale, then suddenly he heard Amelia's voice in his head.
'Nathan... I... I think I remembered something'
Without looking away from the beautiful Behemoth, Nathan asked:
'What did you remember?'
Amelia was a little slow in getting her words together.
'I couldn't help but overhear your thoughts... and I can only tell you that you're wrong'
Nathan frowned.
'What do you mean?'
Amelia spoke somewhat anxiously.
'That whale is not a God... but the creation of one'
Nathan remained silent as he processed Amelia's words, then slowly his face began to distort into an expression of surprise.
'Huh? ...Can you repeat that one more time?'
'Well... I don't know about creation, perhaps it's more pertinent to say that he's the familiar of a God'
A moment later Nathan's expression returned to normal. But his mind was strangely blank.
'So... Do Gods really exist?'
Amelia hesitated for a few seconds before answering.
'I think so... I'm sorry, that's all I remember. Maybe I can remember something else if...'
Amelia was indirectly asking him to feed her.
Nathan, on the other hand had a small smile on his face.
'Never mind... that's enough'
Compared to all the information Amelia had given him, this was without a doubt the most relevant so far.
Not only did he discover what kind of being the whale was, but he even discovered that Gods existed. Though perhaps not the Gods that existed on earth.
It was all very confusing, Nathan wasn't even sure that what Amelia was telling him was 100% true. But even if it turned out that it wasn't, right now Nathan was trying to understand again the world he lived in.
In less than five minutes, he had seen a Behemoth, only two of which had ever been seen and recorded by mankind, plus he had learned about the supposed existence of the Gods.
Nathan put his hand over his mouth without his mask on, trying to hide his smile.
"This world... it might be more interesting than I thought"
