Chapter 66 - Greatsword

'Are you sure? In your state you are only putting yourself in more danger'

Nathan heard Amelia in his mind and hesitated for a few seconds before stepping forward. His body fell through the hole in the floor and landed in the rubble.

Nathan had spent an hour looking for a way down to the lower floor, then he came upon the place where he had fought the spiritual knight with Lynn.

Fortunately, there was no sign of anyone nearby, so Nathan walked without worrying too much.

There were almost no calamities upstairs, so Nathan had no choice but to go downstairs again.

He knew that the dining room was close by, but before he headed there, he searched through the rubble for a while.

Almost five minutes later Nathan smiled slightly and began to remove the debris, revealing a buried black armor.

It was the corpse of the spiritual knight, which was not really of much use to Nathan. He had simply bothered to look for the corpse for two reasons.

Two ways to get relics was to plunder a realm, but another way was to kill calamities.

Occasionally, calamities carried relics with them. Nathan didn't have the time to check it out before, but now that everything had calmed down, he went over and began to rummage through the corpse of the calamity.

However, no matter how hard he searched, he couldn't find anything on the armor's body... even though he had expected it.

Suddenly, however, he removed another stone and something else glittered at the bottom of the rubble. Nathan removed them again and then he saw the black greatsword.

He hesitated for a moment, but then he gathered almost half of the little essence he had recovered in his arms. Nathan pulled out the sword and lifted it with great effort.

The sword was simply too big for him, being almost equal to him in height. He hesitated again for a few seconds, and then sent some essence to the great sword.

Surprisingly, the sword accepted his essence without much effort. Nathan felt almost a third of his remaining essence being swallowed by the sword, but in exchange for his essence, the sword suddenly felt strangely light for its large size.

'Huh?'

The sword was still stupidly heavy, but somehow it could now lift much more easily than before.

'Was it really a relic?'

Nathan stopped supplying the sword with essence and set it back down. Then he began to look at it doubtfully.

'What do you think, Amelia?'

Amelia also hesitated for a few seconds before answering him.

'You should take it with you... you no longer have weapons to defend yourself'

Nathan nodded slightly.

He had lost his knife at some point in the fight earlier. So now he had nothing but his body to protect him... and it's not like it was in a good state.

Still, Nathan doubted whether the sword would really be of any help to him. He could barely swing it properly and carrying it would only be a hindrance. But on the other hand, it really was a good relic, at least better than the weapons he had used before.

Almost twenty minutes later Nathan left the wreckage with the greatsword strapped to his back with a sheet he had taken from a nearby room.

His back was suffering from how heavy the sword was, but somehow, he managed to walk with some difficulty.

'So…'

Nathan looked around, trying to get his bearings. He had spent several days near the place, so he more or less recognized where he was.

The combat between that grey-skinned calamity and the mercenary king had left the place much more destroyed than it already was, but Nathan was able to locate himself.

Almost ten minutes later, he reached the dining room, then sighed sadly.

'I had some hope...'

The large golden chandelier that hung luxuriously on the ceiling now lay on top of what had once been a beautiful table full of food, now there was not a hint of what it once was.

Nathan didn't know what kind of strange magic made the food reappear infinitely and how that magic had been destroyed, but either way it was a real shame.

'Nathan!'

Amelia suddenly screamed inside his mind and Nathan frowned as well sensing something approaching.

Down a hallway, one of the converted humans he had seen almost a week ago was slowly approaching him with drool coming out of his mouth.

Nathan remembered the ten or so converted humans he had seen then, now there was only one left.

The converted human's eyes conveyed nothing but madness, but Nathan, instead of being worried, was a little disappointed.

'What's wrong?' Amelia asked him as she sensed his emotions.

Nathan sighed.

'I was really hoping it was a calamity that I could eat'

'Ah...'

It was then that a shadow suddenly appeared behind the turned human and completely swallowed his head, killing him instantly.

Amelia blanched at the sight of the calamity that had appeared and finished off the turned human.

'Nathan! ... Nathan?'

Amelia tried to warn Nathan to be careful and run away but was surprised to hear his thoughts.

'Wait... don't tell me'

Nathan pulled the sheet wrapped around his body that held the greatsword on his back and then took it flowing essence into it to make it lighter.

'How am I going to run away from my dinner? You're crazy if you think I'm going to pass up this feast'

The calamity devoured the corpse of the converted human in an instant and then growled staring at Nathan.

Nathan licked his lips at the sight of the large black wolf staring at him as its prey... though looking at the two of them, Amelia didn't know who was whose prey.
