Chapter 1 - Prolouge

The pitter patter of raindrops invaded the open window of the brightly lit Victorian home. Light dribbles of water cascaded down the dark brown roof of the two story building flowing over the silver inlays of circuitry their faint hum a soft addition to the rain quietly dripping down its bright yellow exterior. The square panneling that made up the walls of the house were tightly packed, inert as the drops of water crawled their way down in search of a promised opening. Finally the water pooled over the window sill splattering in sucess as it joined the growing pool that spooled into the white fur of the rug creating barely audibly squelches as a woman's bare feet pressed heavily against the damp surface.

The moist carpet was colored with spots of red from the drops of blood spilling from the wrists of a woman fading into oblivion. The drops falling in step as she danced to the solitary sounds of her own voice. "White lips, pale face breathing in the snow flakes burnt lungs, sour taste. Lights gone days end" her face stretched out into an infuated smile while she danced, her pale green eyes glazed and unfocused.

Her long curly hair bounced across the room, a sashay of warm brown blending in with the vibrant yellow and white colors of her surrondings, the scattered streaks of crimson making her arms shimmer as they flash in and out of the light granting them an ephemeral sway. "Struggling to pay rent, Long nights strange men and they say She's in the Class A team stuck in her daydream. Been this way since eighte. ." She staggered in exhaustion, breaking the strange rhythm that seemed to keep her upright, her eyes snapping into a moment of lucidity, their pale green contracting in a mix of horror and relief as she sunk to the floor her knees landing with a soft thud on the white carpetas her arms fell limply at her sides.

The woman raisied her head in a confused haze her eyes wandered franticly until they found themselves focused on a nightstand looking past a glass of water placed over a folded sheet of paper until finally they setteled on a picture of a family, her face finally finding itself in a genuine smile.

As she looked at a reflection of another time in her life, the woman stood in the picture. Held in the arms of a tall man dressed neatly in an infantry uniform, his chocolate skin contrasting warmly against the caramel tone of her arms as they smiled at the camera, seeming to barely hold in a fit of laughter their eyes glowing with mischief. A boy sat on the man's shoulder, his arms wrapped around the man's forehead, the man's military beret hung over his head, almost covering his eyes as he attempted to nibble on the man's head the lack of his two front teeth abudantly clear, his legs dangling over the numerous medals that covered the man's chest. The boys batman costume covered his face exposing light green eyes that glitter with a childlike satisfaction.

The woman held a small girl in her arms barely more than a baby, her light brown eyes tinged with green, staring curiously at the cameraman in her winnie the pooh pajamas as her mother's yellow summer dress was tightly clutched in her small arms. The woman stared at the picture as she faded away a small smile still hanging on to her features as she pushed herself to crawl towards the image her arms limp at her side, forcing her to use her shoulders for leaverage a crimson trail tracking her progress across the carpet.

Her persistence bore fruit as eventually she made her way in front of the picture, her head bumping against the nightstand causing a ripple to spread out across the half empty glass of water knocking drops of condensation upon sheet of paper. The moisture slowly soaking into the already damp script. With a tired smile she attempted to raise her head, the life slowly slipping away from her eyes until all that was left in those emerald pools was oblivion. Her head fell for the last time. The smile still on her face as her hair laid out in front of her reaching towards the picture, the final destination of the red trail that crossed the room.
