"Who was that?"
David asked as he walked out of the room to his wife, Catherine sitting with her hands folded over her chest and a visible frown on her face.
She slightly rolled her eyes before turning to face her husband. "Who was who?" She asked sounding so uninterested.
"It sounded like someone was at the door," David replied as he stood in the kitchen corner pouring himself a glass of water.
"Well no one was at the door" Catherine replied.
She was determined not to let her husband find out about what had happened between her and Seraphina.
"Catherine, I heard voices! Who was at the door?" David asked again, he looked exhausted like he was slowly losing his patience but persisted.
"I don't understand why you are so pressed about this. Someone was at the door but it's not a big deal, I handled it as always." Catherine stated.
"Was it your boyfriend whom I caught you with on the bed the last time?"
Catherine quickly jerked up to her feet, surprised by her husband's sudden outburst,
"Bring your voice down David, the kids are around," Catherine said in an almost hushed tone.
David chuckled dryly. " So who was at the door Catherine?" He asked again
Catherine sighed out loudly, restless. "It was just Seraphina,"
David nodded slowly, he gulped down the water before pressing on. "Okay. What's up with her? And why did she leave so soon?" He asked.
Catherine now back to where she was sitting before, threw her head back in frustration, she just badly wanted this conversation to end and wanted him to get out of her sight.
"Catherine! I asked a question!" David declared loudly
Catherine stood up back to her feet. "I don't know, okay!. I don't know what's up with her, her parents called saying something about her going mad then minutes later, she showed up and all I wanted to do was talk to her and hear her out but she suddenly lost it and even yelled at me and walked away, Okay!, That's what's up with Seraphina." Catherine stated, slightly out of breath.
David sighed loudly.
"We both know what she has been through, we both know how hard these past few years have been on her, don't we Catherine?"
"And we both know, her parents are pushing her too hard when they are actually the cause of it all. Don't act like them, Catherine."
David said and slowly he turned and walked away back into the room where he came out from.
Catherine took a deep breath.
...
Seraphina finally came to the end of her story.
She took several deep breaths while also continuously trying to clean the tears streaming from her eyes that now looked red.
"I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm crying this much." She said sobbing uncontrollably.
"It's okay.
You've been through a lot.
You've held on enough Seraphina.
Cry it all out as much as you want." Sebastian said and it fueled Seraphina's crying even more.
Sebastian slowly stood up, both hands in his pockets, he went over to where the window was and stared out through it.
So many conflicting thoughts swirling around his head and so many hurtful past memories coming up and making him want to shed tears too.
He took several deep breaths and tried to hold them in. But he finally gave in and started to sob out as low as he could.
Seraphina crying came to a stop as she noticed that Sebastian was also crying.
She finally stopped crying and quickly wiped her tears.
She slowly stood up from the couch and with uncertainty, she slowly walked over to where Sebastian stood and bent over to see a glimpse of his face.
Seraphina wasn't sure how to react.
Was he in tears because of her?
Or was something bothering him too?
Sebastian noticed her and quickly began to wipe off his tears."I'm sorry." His voice trembled as he said with a little chuckle.
"It's..it's fine. Did my sad story get to you?" Seraphina asked calmly.
Sebastian chuckled slightly.
"That. Plus the fact that I can relate" he said with a visible sad smile on his face and that got Seraphina curious.
Sebastian slowly walked over close to the couch where Seraphina had been sitting and pointed to the painting behind the couch.
Seraphina followed him and stared at the painting he was pointing at, the painting she had previously smiled at before she sat down on the couch.
"Oh..it's a painting of someone," Seraphina uttered as she finally realized the visible strokes of the painting.
Sebastian nodded still sad smiling.
"A girl?." Seraphina questioned
"My fiancee," Sebastian said
"Oh.." Seraphina appeared surprised.
"She looks so beautiful." She added.
Sebastian nodded with a smile.
"She had a beautiful life too."
Seraphina turned to face him
"Had?."
Sebastian's gaze was still fixed sternly on the painting,
"She is gone, Seraphina," Sebastian uttered
Seraphina gasped out in shock, her hands slammed to her face. "I'm so sorry."
Sebastian smiled sadly.
"She went through a lot before her final moments." He said
"What..what happened to her, if you don't mind me asking," Seraphina said almost in a whisper.
Sebastian turned to face Seraphina now.
"Just like you. She was raped by a co-worker during a late-night work session. After it happened she tried her best to keep it to herself and live on with her life while still having to bear seeing the monster at work every day." Sebastian began to explain, he took a deep breath.
"But it was all too much for her to bear and she finally decided to tell me about it. I was furious and wanted to do something about it but she told me not to and that all she needed was for me to be with her.
I slept over at her place that night and the next morning when I woke up, Evelyn, my fiancee, had overdosed herself to her death.."
Seraphina was Frozen in her spot, she was completely shocked and in a complete blur.
"Oh my God." She whispered with trembling hands.
Sebastian took a deep breath.
"After she left, I was furious with myself and I was determined to take revenge on the monster who ruined her life. And I did. He is currently serving life imprisonment without parole.
I can help you Seraphina,"
Seraphina fixed her gaze sternly at him.
Sebastian gave a faint smile.
"Now I know the reason why fate brought you to me. You have been through hell Seraphina and you still try your best to look like the happy soul you are supposed to be even though you are completely broken inside... You are here now, I can help you take revenge on that monster that broke you so much. Just tell me what you want...."
