Chereads / The curse of zeth / Chapter 4 - #4 Madness

Chapter 4 - #4 Madness

Zeth couldn't make sense of anything, but he realized that the demons had arrived in the world. Without thinking about anything else, he could only think about his family. As he ran towards his village, suddenly something passed him from the right side, brushing against him with great speed, and Zeth fell to the ground. His ears were ringing. When he regained his composure and sat in a seated position on the ground, he felt that his ribs were shattered and he started coughing up blood. The pain was so intense that he couldn't even scream, he could only vomit blood.

"******"

Zeth heard an unfamiliar voice. With great difficulty, he raised his head and saw a demonic creature with a disgusting face in front of him. The demon had bright green eyes and blood-red skin. Its eyes were wide open, and it stared at Zeth with a hysterical laughter. Zeth's consciousness faded away.

When he woke up, it was already evening. Even though it couldn't be discerned from the sky, Zeth could feel it. The constant flashing red lightning kept everything illuminated. Suddenly, he remembered everything and felt the incredible pain in his chest. He screamed, but instead of a sound, blood came out of his mouth. He couldn't scream. He stood up in agony and started walking towards his village. He had to go to his village. He had to go to his family.

As he approached the village, the surroundings became even brighter. Zeth reached the village gate. Asugna Village was burning fiercely, and there was complete silence. Apart from the crackling sound of the burning wood and the wind, there was no other sound. The scene was horrifying. Not even a sturdy house remained. The once-earth ground now resembled a lake of blood. Human limbs and body parts were scattered everywhere.

Ravens had already started feasting on the corpses. Zeth thought he had lost his mind. This couldn't be real.

Zeth walked forward, heading towards his home, but he wasn't doing it consciously. His body was purely reflexively moving towards his home. Zeth was so horrified that he no longer felt the pain from his shattered ribs. As he walked, he looked around with great astonishment. He stumbled upon something. When he looked at the ground, he realized that it was an intestine he had tripped over, and he continued to walk.

The scene was so grotesque that with each passing second, Zeth lost more and more of his sanity. He couldn't even cry. He dropped to his knees and vomited. He kept vomiting repeatedly. When there was nothing left to vomit, he stood up and continued walking. He spotted Toran's house. Like every other house, it was reduced to ashes. Toran came to his mind. For a brief moment, he regained his consciousness and delved into the ashes. He found nothing. He felt hopeless, but he stood up and saw a body behind the building. It was a female corpse, with the upper half of her head shattered and her left leg severed. But it couldn't be Toran. Toran wasn't that tall.

As he continued walking towards his home, he thought to himself, "Toran must be dead." But he didn't feel sad. He was on the verge of madness, unable to feel anything except the thought of his family's situation. He had arrived at his home. He raised his head and saw his house. Sol, running in front of the door, followed by Selt, caught his eye. They were having fun. Through the window, he saw their mother, smiling and watching them. "Mother..." he said internally and snapped back into reality.

What he saw now was a demolished, shattered home. It hadn't been burned down, so he could go inside. He stepped over the threshold which used to be a door and entered. He wanted to scream, but he couldn't. He went to the living room, but there was nothing there. He went upstairs to his own room, but there was no room left. He continued to the end of the hallway and saw Selt's room. The door was open, and blood had spread from its threshold onto the corridor. Groaning from physical and psychological agony, Zeth entered through the door.

Blood was dripping from the ceiling. Directly opposite him, half of the wooden wall was missing. And right in front of him, he saw the lifeless bodies of Selt and Sol. He recognized Selt from her clothes, as her head was no longer intact. Sol had a large hole in his body. Both were covered in blood and their skin was pale white. They had been dead for hours.

Zeth's vision began to blur and fade. As he walked towards them, he slipped and fell onto something. When he raised his head to see what he had fallen on, he saw his mother. Her face was bloody but clean. "MOTHER!" Zeth screamed with a horrifying tone. As he tried to lift her, he saw that her lower body was not there. Zeth was currently stepping on his mother's intestines. Zeth snapped. He crouched down, pressing his hands against his ears, and started laughing. Red lightning formed around Zeth. He laughed while vomiting blood and crying. He laughed so much, so breathlessly, that he fainted.

And there, Zeth died.
