Creeping through the dimly lit corridors, Alex's senses were on high alert. He could hear the distant commotion caused by Emily and James' diversion, and he knew it was only a matter of time before Lord Alaric's guards would be deployed to investigate.
"Seems like our little fireworks show worked," Lisa commented in his earpiece, a hint of amusement evident in her tone. "They're scrambling."
"Let's hope they stay occupied long enough for me to find what we need," Alex replied, his voice barely a whisper as he ducked behind a corner just as two guards hurried past. He took a deep breath, reminding himself that time was of the essence.
"Alex, I've got eyes on Alaric," Emily chimed in, her voice tense. "He's leaving the compound. Looks like he's heading for a secret exit near the stables."
"Damn, we must have spooked him. I'm on it," Alex said, his heart pounding as he changed course. He broke into a silent run, darting around corners and ducking behind furniture as he made his way towards the stables.
"Careful, Alex. We don't want to lose him, but we also can't afford to raise any suspicions," Lisa warned.
"Understood," Alex replied, his muscles tensing as he prepared to intercept Lord Alaric. As he approached the stables, he caught sight of the traitor slipping through the shadows, his movements hurried and furtive. Alex followed at a distance, his every step calculated and precise.
"Alright, Emily, you've got your wish," Alex murmured, his dry humor seeping through despite the tension. "I hope you enjoy this cat-and-mouse game as much as I do."
"More than you know, Alex," Emily shot back, her own grin almost audible. "Just catch the rat."
As Alex shadowed Lord Alaric through the dark grounds, he couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Every muscle in his body seemed honed for this very moment – the thrill of the chase, the adrenaline coursing through his veins. He knew that one misstep could jeopardize the entire operation, but there was something exhilarating about pushing himself to the edge.
"Alex, I've alerted James to your position," Lisa informed him. "He's on standby if you need backup."
"Copy that," Alex acknowledged, his gaze never leaving the figure ahead of him. Alaric's pace quickened, and Alex matched it, remaining ever vigilant as they moved further from the estate.
"Emily, any updates on our friend's destination?" Alex inquired, his voice barely audible as he continued his pursuit.
"Working on it. But from what I can see, this might be more than just an escape route," she replied, her tone serious.
"Great. Just another twist in this twisted tale," Alex muttered, his mind racing with possible scenarios. What could Alaric be up to? And how much danger did it pose to the Logia Kingdom?
"Focus, Alex," Lisa urged gently. "One step at a time."
"Right," he agreed, his determination unwavering. The stakes had never been higher, but he knew he could rely on his team. Together, they would uncover the truth – and protect their kingdom at all costs.
