Chereads / Return to Broadstairs / Chapter 21 - Chapter Twenty-One

Chapter 21 - Chapter Twenty-One

"Hi mum, bye mum," Heather said as Kevin closed the front door behind them and she was about to lead the way straight upstairs to her room.

"Hold it!" her mother's voice from the living room stopped them both. "Why did you not both eat here?" she asked as she made her way towards them.

"I didn't think there was enough food," her daughter answered, slightly crafty.

"There wasn't. I had your portion, no problem," her father mingled in the conversation now, comfortably from the sofa.

"See?" Heather pointed out.

"Hmmm okay, next time let us know a bit earlier and we can make sure there's enough food," Mrs Fawcett said now, looking at Kevin as much as her daughter.

"We'll try. We really just did run into each other today though," he promised her.

"It's fine," Mr Fawcett assured them on his wife's behalf, even if her expression said otherwise. "Go on up, I've had to pause my programme for this," he commented now, and Heather could've sworn she saw her dad wink at her before he turned his attention back to the TV.

"Nice to see you again," Kevin nodded at the both of them before he followed their daughter up the stairs.

"You too," Mrs Fawcett answered and sat back down next to her husband.

"Didn't I say they'd get back together?" he commented to her as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "It was only a matter of time," he added, getting a thankful nod back from his wife.

"I'm glad they have," she responded now. She'd always thought her daughter had made a mistake breaking up with him and she'd worried that Heather had messed things up beyond repair, with the number of other guys she'd dated in the intervening three years.

"For a moment I thought she'd send me home," Kevin said when they got to her room and the door was closed safely behind them.

"After all the nagging she did, she wouldn't dare," Heather told him with a laugh as she pulled him in closer. "And I think I saw my dad wink at me," she added with a frown, wrapping her arms around his waist.

"That… would not surprise me at all," he said with a chuckle as he rubbed her arms and wrapped his arms around her neck. She smiled as she leaned in closer, suddenly feeling a bit shy. She really wanted to kiss him, and whatever it led to, but they'd only just gotten back together, a day after he'd broken up with Stephanie. Were they going too fast? Kevin seemed to read her hesitation and went through her hair as he leaned in to kiss her. Heather had forgotten what a good kisser he was, though she was struggling to understand how she could've forgotten. She moved her hands up his back and abs up to his neck as his hands ran down her back to her bum. He lifted her up slightly, at which she ran her hands down to his biceps. She loved his muscles and the way she felt so secure in his arms. He pulled back to look at her, feeling a little breathless.

"What?" she asked.

"I can't believe how good this feels… to be able to hold you again," Kevin said now, making her smile.

"I know, me too," she said, her eyes now drawn to his chest and arms.

"What?" he asked when he noticed; had he spilled food down himself?

"Well…" Heather started embarrassed. "No, never mind," she shook her head and wanted to step back.

"No tell me," he stopped her as he pulled her back.

"I don't want to, it's going to sound so wrong," she whined, making him laugh.

"Come on, just tell me," he insisted, trying not to tickle her just yet. "I'm going to tickle you if you don't tell me," he warned her.

"Okay, okay," she grudgingly gave in. "I was just thinking about how… strong you used to be and how… good... I suppose… your muscles used to look… And I was just wondering if they still… looked like that," she finally told him, keeping her eyes downcast and feeling her cheeks burn. She could feel his body shake as he laughed and pulled her in for a hug.

"So basically… you just wanted to check me out naked?" Kevin said in her ear, fighting back a chuckle. "Why didn't you just say so?" he added teasingly.

"Wait, what?" Heather pulled back, making him laugh.

"You thought I'd mind?" he asked rhetorically and kissed her.

"No, I just wasn't sure, if maybe we'd be moving too fast if we did," she admitted now; as much as she couldn't wait for that side of their relationship to be rekindled as well, she didn't want to ruin things by going faster than he was ready for. She'd wait if it meant they were both ready.

"How could we go too fast? We've already been a couple, we already know everything there is to know about each other," he argued.

"True…" she acknowledged and smiled when he kissed her again. This time felt slightly different though, more urgent. It was almost as if they'd needed to get that conversation out of the way.

As they kissed, Heather started pulling his shirt up, relishing the feel of his abs under her hands. He had to let go of her, so she could pull his shirt over his head. Once she'd done this, she took a step back to admire his upper body.

"Is it like you remembered?" Kevin asked, only half-teasing. She gave a nod, hoping her jaw wouldn't drop.

"I'd say even better," she told him now as she moved in to kiss him again. She wanted to run her hands, lips and tongue over all of his muscles, but she didn't know where to start.

Heather sighed contently as she lay her head on Kevin's chest and she felt his arm slide around her shoulders. "That was better than I remember too," she said and chuckled when he laughed.

"Ditto," he said, planting a kiss on top of her head as he stroked her arm. "Oh hey, did I see a tattoo on your shoulder?" he suddenly realised and tried to crane his neck to see it properly now.

"Yeah… that one's new," she nodded, sitting up to show him the trio of stars on her right shoulder. She watched his face as his fingers traced them.

"Cool. Wait, this one's new? You have more?" he picked up on what she'd said. Heather pulled her leg up to show him the butterfly on her right leg, just above the ankle. "I like that one," Kevin said, his fingers doing the same as they'd done with the stars. "Are you planning any more?" he asked as she lay back down in his arms again.

"I'm thinking about it," she admitted. "But I'm going to try to avoid any really visible places," she added.

"Hm very sexy," he told her now, making her glow happily inside. "I've thought about getting one too you know," he added.

"Really? Like what?" Heather asked as she looked up at him.

"Well that was kind of the problem, I kept changing my mind, so I didn't dare do it just yet," Kevin answered with a shrug.

"Yeah that's probably for the best," she nodded.

"Oh, I need to text my folks to tell 'em I won't be coming home tonight," he suddenly realised and started getting out of bed.

"Oh of course," she nodded and got off him. "What are you telling them?" she asked as she watched him get his phone from his jeans pocket before heading back and climbing back into bed with her.

"I don't know, not that I'm stuck in Brighton in any case," he said with a shrug, sitting back against the pillows and pulling her in. He started texting his mother.

"Yeah that'd probably be best," she agreed, settling back against him. She smiled when she felt him kiss her hair.

"If you don't mind, I'll tell them I'm stuck in Ramsgate and that I'll stay at Bailey's," Kevin mentioned as he stopped texting for a moment. Obviously, Ramsgate wasn't far from Broadstairs and in that scenario he could get a cab, but he could always tell his parents it saved him money to stay with his friend.

"Why would I mind?" she asked.

"I don't want you to think I'm hiding you or anything. I just think it'll be easier to explain to them about us getting together again in person," he explained as he now put his phone on the bedside table, getting a sweet smile as she looked up at him.

"Ahw, thank you," Heather smiled as she hugged him, feeling him chuckle.

"No problem," he kissed her again as he stroked her shoulder and held her tightly. She looked up at him and kissed him. He smiled as he returned it and sank back into the pillows, pulling her with him. He could feel her smile into their kiss as her hands made their way over his chest and abs. Kevin ran his hands through her hair as he looked into her eyes. "You look beautiful tonight," he told her.

"And to think I didn't even dress up or put make-up on today," Heather chuckled teasingly and kissed him again.

"You cheeky moo," he responded but kissed her properly now, making her giggle, especially when he rolled her over onto her back.
