Chapter 17 - Sibling Adventures

In the peaceful town of Beginnings, nestled beneath a bright blue sky, lived two siblings, Eidos and Edea. They were inseparable, their bond stronger than any force in the world. Together, they shared countless adventures and created memories that would last a lifetime.

As Eidos and Edea continued to grow up, their bond with the townsfolk deepened. They were not just orphans; they were beloved members of the community, and the adults of the town embraced them as their own.

The townspeople, recognizing the hardship that the two siblings had endured, showered them with kindness and support. Whenever they passed by the local market, the vendors would offer them fresh vegetables and fruits, their way of ensuring that Eidos and Edea had enough to eat. The bakers in town would gift them with warm, freshly baked bread, still steaming from the oven. The townsfolk shared not only their food but also their wisdom, teaching the siblings valuable life skills and the importance of kindness.

In return, Eidos and Edea cherished the bonds they had formed with the adults of Beginnings. They affectionately called the townspeople their second parents and viewed the other children of the town as their siblings. Together, they formed a close-knit family that looked out for one another, offering help and support whenever it was needed.

Eidos, known for his resourcefulness, often helped the elderly with their daily chores, such as repairing roofs, tending to gardens, and carrying heavy loads. Edea, with her caring and compassionate nature, became a trusted friend to the younger children, offering comfort and solace during moments of sadness or frustration.

Life in Beginnings was filled with laughter, warmth, and the sense of belonging that can only come from a tight-knit community. The town's central square, with its bustling market, became a place where everyone gathered to share stories, celebrate festivals, and watch the children play games in the soft glow of the setting sun.

One sunny afternoon, Eidos and Edea decided to play their favorite game: hide and seek. The town of Beginnings, with its quaint houses and bustling streets, offered endless hiding spots for their playful pursuit. Edea, the younger of the two, couldn't contain her excitement as she counted to ten while covering her eyes.

"Ready or not, here I come!" Edea exclaimed, her laughter filling the air as she began to search for her brother.

Eidos, ever the protective older sibling, chose a spot that would allow him to keep a close watch on his sister. He climbed a tall oak tree in the town square, perching himself among its sturdy branches. From his leafy vantage point, he had a clear view of the entire town.

Edea scampered through the town, her eyes bright with anticipation as she looked for her brother. She peeked behind barrels, checked inside open windows, and even peeked into the bakery, but Eidos was nowhere to be found. Edea's joy was contagious, and soon enough, other players joined in the game, searching for Eidos as well.

As the sun began to set, Edea's delight turned into concern. She couldn't find her brother anywhere, and panic welled up within her. In her desperation, she accidentally took a misstep and tumbled to the ground, scraping her knee. Tears welled up in her eyes as she cried out for her brother.

Hearing his sister's cries, Eidos leaped from the tree and rushed to her side. He scooped her up into his arms, comforting her with gentle words and promises that everything would be alright. Edea clung to her brother, feeling safe and loved in his embrace.

Eidos carried Edea back to their cozy home in Beginnings. He set her down in the living room and quickly tended to her scraped knee, cleaning it gently and applying a healing potion. Edea watched in awe as her brother skillfully cared for her, his love and concern evident in every gesture.

With Edea's knee patched up, Eidos decided to make her favorite meal: a hearty bowl of vegetable stew. The aroma of the simmering broth filled their home as they sat at the dining table, sharing stories of their day's adventures. Edea's laughter and giggles returned, chased away by her brother's warmth and the delicious meal.

After dinner, Eidos and Edea curled up together in their shared bedroom, nestled under the soft, warm blankets. Eidos picked up a tattered old book and began reading a bedtime story to his sister, his soothing voice lulling her into a peaceful slumber. The room was filled with a sense of comfort and safety as they shared this nightly ritual.

As Eidos read each word, he couldn't help but steal glances at his sister's serene face. Edea's innocent expression and the way she clutched her favorite stuffed animal tugged at his heartstrings. He knew that his role as her older brother meant everything to her, and he was determined to protect her from the world's hardships.

Once the story had come to an end, Eidos gently closed the book and set it aside. He watched over Edea as she drifted into a deep and dreamless sleep, her breathing soft and even. The room was filled with the quiet stillness of the night, and Eidos couldn't help but smile at the sight of his peacefully slumbering sister.

But when Eidos woke up the next morning, his world crumbled into a nightmare. His eyes, heavy with sleep, were met not by the sight of his sister's peaceful face but by a gruesome and horrifying scene. Edea's lifeless body lay beside him, her once-vibrant eyes now vacant, staring blankly at the ceiling. The room seemed colder, darker, as if all the warmth and light had been sucked out of it.

He then found himself in the middle of an abandoned town, alone. He was the sole survivor, the last remaining soul in a town that had once been filled with life, love, and laughter.

"AHHHHHHHH!"

Eidos shot up in bed, his heart pounding like a drum in his chest. The echoes of his own scream still hung in the air as he gasped for breath, drenched in a cold sweat. The nightmare had been vivid, tormenting him with images of his sister, Edea, and the unfathomable loss he had suffered.

Reality crashed over him like a merciless wave, and he clutched his chest, trying to steady his racing heart. The room felt stifling, and he yearned for the comforting presence of his sister, even though he knew she was gone. The grief washed over him once more, a relentless tide that threatened to consume him.

"I have to find her," Eidos whispered to himself, his voice trembling with desperation. His mind was a whirlwind of confusion and sorrow, and he couldn't shake the feeling that he needed to locate his sister, to rescue her from the clutches of the nightmare that had stolen her from him.

But the truth was cruel and unyielding – Edea was gone, taken from him by the heartless players who reveled in their destructive power. Tears welled up in his eyes as he realized the futility of his longing. He couldn't bring her back; he couldn't turn back time.

Eidos cried out in frustration, his voice filled with anguish. The pain of his loss was a constant weight on his shoulders, a burden that threatened to crush him. In this unforgiving world of players and monsters, he was alone, haunted by the memory of his sister and the promise he had made to avenge her.

As the tears fell, Eidos knew that he had to channel his grief into determination. He had a mission to fulfill, a quest for justice that would take him to the very heart of this world. He would become a force to be reckoned with, someone who would make the ruthless pay for their sins.
