Chereads / Hunter of Artemis / Chapter 30 - Before the start of the academy

Chapter 30 - Before the start of the academy

(Jake's PoV)

It's time to return to Yaros to increase my levels once again. There is nothing else for me to do but wait for the contract from the academy to arrive in my email. So that's what I did for the day.

For the next few days before I had to report to the academy, all I should do was to increase my levels as soon as possible.

As I said before, it's best to reach as high as possible before I start at the academy. I am sure that once I attend the academy, things will change a lot.

From what I know, simply leveling up would not be the motto of the academies. If that is so, there is no use of the academies to be present. As long as one can hunt beasts, they can level up.

If powering up is so simple, then there is no need to waste time on exams nor on the academies, which would be a waste of time and resources.

No, once we go to the academies, our leveling speed decreases at first. It picks up only in the second year.

What's the reason behind this, I have no idea.

Until I become a student there, I wouldn't know the reason. Anyway, that's for the future. I have a goal for now to reach. As long as I can reach that, many of future plans would be able to be implemented or else I have to scrap them and make new plans.

It's time to hunt again.

In the past few days, alot of changes happened.

One is that I was finally able to reach level 50 and that means I can rank up to Rank-2, which was my goal. For that to happen, I had to go to the dungeons. They are afterall the best way to improve my levels faster.

Though the chances of loot appearing is very scarce, they are my only chance to increase levels so much faster.

It was not only my levels that needed to increase but also my skill levels and attribute values.

With increased levels, my attributes also increased. Since levelling up takes much powerful beasts or many lower beasts, the attribute drops I got are also very good.

There was something that observed here. After the Rank-up, the attribute drop rate decreased when I hunted lower beasts. No, it was when I reached level 20. I didn't see it at first but as time went on, I saw the decrease.

It looks like I can use the blessing as a loophole to gaim more attributes. I can only gain attributes from beasts whose levels are near to me.

When I first got skills through hunting, there were no grades or levels or any indication that they can be levelled up. It was only after I got the same skill again did I see the change and the skill improved but that was it.

I got that same skill again but there was no improvement in the grade.

So, I theorized that for every improvement in grade, the number of times I get that same skill should be increased or else it won't change.

With how scare the beasts are outside, there was no way I can fully understand the process quickly. So I believed that dungeons may provide the answer, though I am not sure about it.

The beasts in the dungeons are after all not real beasts. They are dungeon beasts. Though they can kill people, do they drop skills like this, I have no idea.

Sure skill books drop from dungeon beasts but my method of gaining skills was never tested before. I don't think anyone alive know about this, atleast the ones on Yaros and Tarro. So I had to be the one to test it out.

I did test it and it was a success.

One of my skills I got increased after a few droppings. In the next few days of my hunt, every skill increased to D grade, except for Rage Rush and Fire Claw Slash.

Fire Claw Slash had no grade, so improving it to E grade is already a win for now.

The problem was the Rage Rush, which is not an anamoly as there were no beasts that had the skill to drop in the first place. There are only a few beasts that have this skill. So, finding them is already a problem.

With no 100% drop gurantee, improving that skill would be a major hurdle.

The biggest achievement in skills is the Fire Ball, which improved to D grade from No grade. There were many goblin shamans that I hunted gave me the skill Fire Ball.

I think a few more times, it would reach C grade. I am sure about that because, it dropped too many times. Even after I reached D grade, it still dropped. So I know that there was some improvement in the grade.

So a few more drops, it would be C grade but I don't have time to get what I want. I have to go to the academy in a few days. So it's best to improve my Rank as fast as possible, rather than just trying to improve a skill.

I can think about that later.

---

There are still five more days before the academy starts. The last two days would be consumed in travel to the academy and settling down there. It leaves me with only three days to reach Rank-2.

No matter what, I should reach Rank-2 in the next three days.
