Chapter 14 - Last days of school (Revised!)

Pretty much everyone present is nervous, except for a few. Today is the start of theoretical examinations. Though these are deemed to be useless by a few, they play a pretty important role in the lives of the awakeners.

Awakeners have various fields to progress themselves but one chosen field to excel in. It is decided when they have awakened their profession.

Many known professions come under the Hunters, Crafters and Adventurers categories. These are known because they are the ones who gain maximum fame.

Hunters may be combat mages, weapon-wielding warriors, and anyone whose profession has to do with combat.

Crafters are blacksmiths, alchemists etc...

Adventurers are explorers. They don't essentially come under combat or non-combat but a mix of both. Unlike researchers, who don't move away from their labs, adventurers go out in search of knowledge.

The professions which can be categorized within these three, hog all the fame. Even within these, the combat professionals are the ones who gain fame easily, as they are the ones who have to defend when beast tides occur, essentially making them the most short-lived awakeners.

Whenever a new batch appears, new hunters arrive to fill the hole left by the dead ones but it was never consistent.

The percentage of awakened never had the same amount of awakening from the same category or profession. It always varies. So no one is sure about how many new ones will arrive and how many holes in the security can be filled.

Security may look like it depends only on combat professionals but diplomats are important too. The merchants make sure the required resources are acquired or produced to be sold elsewhere.

Everyone has their own importance and everyone faces dangers too, but the society favoured combatants over non-combatants.

This is because combatants are the ones who would fight the beasts and protect the human settlements from getting destroyed the beasts. Even though the non-combatants can fight, they wouldn't matter much while looking the big picture.

Though they are not useful directly in a combat, still without the supplies like wepons. potions, etc...that were produced by these non-combatant professionals, the effeciency of defence would be recuded.

Even if that is the case, most of the time it is a combatant that has to face dangers head-on and that is why they can enjoy certain privileges even in academy exams.

The combatants wouldn't require much theoretical knowledge except for knowledge on certain subjects that are useful while in the wild. If they excel in those, they don't need to worry about other subjects.

Many of the others don't have such luxuries. The only advantage is that they wouldn't have to face dangers and can lock themselves in when danger appears and no one would point it out.

The combatants don't have such luxury while facing dangers. Especially, if you join government militaries or guilds that are in danger business like hunting, guarding etc...

A few minutes in a teacher in a two-piece suit entered the auditorium where the exam was going to take place.

This auditorium is big enough to accommodate half of the students, while the other half would be in another auditorium.

The teacher walked to the podium and spoke into the microphone grabbing everyone's attention, "Okay everyone, today as you know, all final year students would have to take the exams on theory, which they have learned in the past year. I know, you want to spend your time in the survival world to level up as fast as you can.

Please bear for three days and you can once again dive back into it. Today we would record your level and you would later proceed to the writing exam part. So, when I call your name, please come accordingly".

The teacher started calling the names and recorded their names. Most of them reached level 5 or 6. After all, they have been grinding for only a week.

Though Jake got into the lowest level gained category, he wasn't embarrassed, instead, he felt relieved. If he was the only one in level 5, he would had to bury his head in shame.

Now, there are few, though they are not A-Class awakeners, he didn't mind that much.

A few even reached level 7. Everyone clapped as a congratulatory for those who reached level 7 because everyone knows how difficult it is for one to reach that level.

Then came the SS-Class awakener, James Davidson, who reached level 10.

Everyone gasped when they heard the announcement. It is not an easy task. The amount of experience required for each level increases exponentially. So it would be not an easy feat to reach level 10 within a week, even for an SS- Class awakener.

Even the teachers were surprised. They believed that he could reach level 8, if not at most level 9. They never thought that he could reach level 10 before exams.

They started to clap in glee.

These records would be sent to the Department of Education, which is responsible for the allocation of resources for a school. The school which shows improvements or new talents would receive extra money as a bonus to the staff and also to improve next year's students.

So how could they not be happy about this? An SS-Class was already an achievement for the school and now he even reached level 10, which would make their bonus packets extra large.

The teacher informed James Davidson to come by to the principal's office after the exam. As the highest level awakener, the school would gift him a few things. The school is not cheap after all. They would be earning a lot because of him and sharing a few with him is called decency.

A few minutes later, the level recordings resumed and once it was over, the written exam was conducted before letting them go.

Three days went by before they knew it. The theory exams on History & Culture, Finance, and Monster & Beasts were completed. With the end of exams, it is the end of school days and the beginning of real life for Jake and all his classmates.
