Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: A Caring Heart and Tiny Descoveries

The morning couldn't get brighter. The sun was providing the best Vitamin D I could ever receive. I woke up and did my morning routine then hurried to the hospital.

Stepping into the hospital room, I found Camilla sleeping peacefully. The soft rays of morning light embraced her, creating a beautiful glow around her. My heart swelled with a mixture of tenderness and unease as I looked upon her slumbering figure.

It was in moments like these that my conflicting roles as Alejandro Montellia and Juan Montenegro became a bit difficult.

To Camilla, I was her loving friend, Alejandro, there to offer comfort and support. But hiding beneath the surface was the truth she was unaware of – my identity as Juan, the new gardener with ulterior motives.

As I stood by her bedside, my gaze locked onto her delicate features. A storm of thoughts breathed within me – the weight of my little mission, the responsibility to protect her, the desire to be honest with her as well as to be fair with both women.

The tightrope I walked between my genuine feelings and my undercover assignment threatened to unfold at any moment.

Camilla stirred, her eyes fluttering open and meeting mine. The connection between us was a magnetic pull that stirred my emotions. I greeted her with a soft smile, my heart both lightened and burdened by her presence.

"Good morning," I whispered the words with a mixture of affection and conflict.

She responded, her voice carrying the elements of sleep. Her smile, innocent and trusting, warmed my heart even as it reminded me of the complexities I was involved in.

I approached her bed, my internal battle hidden beneath a mask of caring concern. "I wanted to make sure you started the day with a smile."

Her response was genuine, her gratitude evident in the depths of her gaze. " Thank you. It looks like your wish is fulfilled"

Her words came to a heavy silence – an unspoken recognition of the awkwardness between us. This was the third time we ever met.

We didn't get a chance and time to know each other, only I got to know about her story through my little search. Something which made me feel like I was playing an unfair game.

My dual existence itself was a game I started disliking to play. I felt like I was in a complicated dance with calculated steps; missing even one would mean losing.

"I'm glad to hear that," I said softly, my tone tinged with a touch of sorrow. I reached out, intertwining my fingers with hers, a gesture of connection that held a bunch of meanings. "How are you feeling today?"

"I'm getting better," she replied, her voice a soothing melody. "Having you here helps."

A small smile left my face. I was part of the reason why her day was brighter. Maybe she thought of me before I arrived? Oh, but she was still asleep.

Leaning in, I brushed a gentle kiss against her forehead, a silent promise of my commitment to her well-being. "I'm glad," I murmured, my voice laced with sincerity.

"Camilla," I began, my tone warm and encouraging, "I thought I'd bring you something to keep you entertained while you're here."

Her curious gaze locked onto the box, her eyes lighting up with curiosity. I presented the puzzle challenge box to her, letting her fingers trace the tricky designs that clothed its surface.

"It's a puzzle challenge," I explained, a hint of excitement in my voice. "I know staying in a hospital room can be boring, so I thought this might help pass the time."

Camilla's smile widened, and her fingers gently traced the edges of the box. "A puzzle challenge? That sounds like fun."

She looked at me and then back at the little puzzle box. Her hands took hold of it as she started trying to sort it.

I met her gaze, my eyes holding a mixture of genuine affection and the hidden complexities that swirled within me. "And here's the incentive," I continued, allowing a playful sparkle to appear in my eyes. "If you manage to solve the puzzle, I will have a special gift just for you."

Her curiosity deepened, her attention fully captured by the puzzle box in her hand. "A gift? What kind of gift?"

I chuckled softly at the fact that she was excited to know more about the gift. "Ah, that's a secret for now," I replied, my voice laced with happiness and a little bit of mystery, "But trust me, it's something you'll love. You have all day. I've got to go,"

She looked at me and looked at the puzzle box again, "Thank you, I will try my best,"

I looked at her one last time before finally closing the door behind me. Now that I noticed, she just woke up and she was still that beautiful. If I had a choice I would look at her the whole day.

Before I could fully exit the hospital, Lisa, one of Marcus' maids was walking towards where I was coming from, assuming she was going to see Camilla.

I took my sunglasses and wore them. My hair was still blonde and my eyes were still green but I still couldn't trust that I was completely different. I was still the same person regardless of the difference in some features.

As she passed near me, I focused on what was in front of me. Despite that, I could still sense her glance. She loved handsome, wattpad type of guys.

Was it because I looked like one of them or was it because I looked like Juan? Whatever the reason, she wouldn't be sure even if she saw the resemblance.

I went back home. To my mansion. Mother had already gone to the office. I preferred to work at home and even though I had my office there, I hardly went and very few employees knew what I looked like.

Excited to do my work early today, the first thing I was eager to know was Camilla. I dug deeper into her life every single day yet I had no time to read any of those papers since I was busy being Marcus' servant for at least half of the day, hoping to find anything of significance.

I went straight to my office, I searched more about where she lived. More about her mother and her early romance. My eyes opened wide when I saw her very first boyfriend whom she's been with for more than five years.

Aidan Del Monte

He called himself Pablo Gonzales. The very same man I burnt under that cottage house. The brother of Marcus Del Monte and my half-brother.

This meant only one thing, they planned this scheme all along. Pablo was not there because of love. He was there Because of revenge. And for that, I was glad glad I burnt him.

He fucking deserved it!
