It took time for Trevor to accept his loss to Frederick Dunn -- again. For several minutes, the man was just silent while monitoring the coverage of Daniel Tomlison's death which went viral on social media, considering that it happened right in front of a TV station and was witnessed by many people, not to mention because it had only been a few hours since his face had been seen on a live broadcast broadcast all over the city.
[I can't believe he died in such a tragic way just an hour after humiliating Frederick Dunn. I don't want to sound heartless, but isn't that like karma for him?]
[But isn't it creepy? He died alone after being crushed by the giant billboard even though there were many people around him. As if he was the only one targeted for that. It does look like a karma.]
[Yes, it must be karma for swearing on Frederick Dunn.]
[Aren't you guys being too much? Someone is dead here. Why are you discussing things like this? Please, respect him.]
[People can be so cruel. He is way too young. Rest in peace.]
Trevor closed his social media app after reading some comments there. It made him even more angry. He wanted to curse them for their ignorance of things they knew nothing about.
The man sighed, feeling regret again. He even blamed himself for that. He felt so incompetent as someone who should be able to save Daniel Tomlison's life, but because his abilities were still poor, in the end, he failed. This also made him realize that he still had a very long way to go.
"AI T?" He finally called his virtual assistant after ignoring it for the past few minutes.
'Yes, sir?'
"Since I've been playing in this system, this is the first time my mission has overlapped with the enemy king's. Is this a sign that I am getting deeper into the game's progress?" he asked later.
'It could be so, sir. However, this is actually not the first time, sir. In fact, because you live in the same city with him, it's likely that your missions will cross every day from the start. It's just that you didn't realize it.' AI T replied. 'The reason you know about Frederick Dunn's plan is because you remember the subject's name. That's why you checked the details about the case and found out about it. It was just like an accidental scenario.'
Trevor nodded in understanding.
'However, as you get stronger and your missions become more complex, the opportunities for you to compete with him will become bigger. Because with his level, Frederick Dunn usually commits crimes on a larger scale to get higher rewards. I assumed that what happened to Daniel Tomlison was purely because he had offended Frederick Dunn so that he had a grudge against him. The proof is that he might have been able to create a bigger accident with a greater number of victims, but instead of chasing high rewards he prioritized to get revenge. That's why your mission accidentally overlap with him even though you are still at the lowest level.'
That makes sense.
However, no matter how it was explained, Trevor would never understand why Frederick Dunn went that far over trivial things like this. His heart must have been so filled with immorality that it was so easy for him to kill someone else as if their lives were nothing.
'That's what's scary about this system, sir. Even for heroes like you, you may find moments whether you are truly sincere about helping your subjects or just want the rewards. Games are always addictive for many people, especially anything related to money like this. That's why you have to be as wise as possible in this system.'
"I am also not hypocritical about wanting to get richer from this game, AI T. However, one thing is certain, I will not turn into a monster like him. Whatever happens, I will not sacrifice other people's lives to get rewards."
'I know you are the best, sir.'
Trevor glanced at the navigator watch which was now just like a normal watch because its function was being turned off. He did this on purpose after accepting his defeat a few minutes ago.
"Let's go home for now. We have to go look for the gym equipment requested by the physical training special agent, early tomorrow morning. I have to do this as well as possible, because I want to quickly level up and become stronger," said Trevor as he started the car engine again. He then left the place.
"But it made me remember my past again, AI T. I was suddenly curious about Miranda Johnson's whereabouts after that incident. Do you really not have any data about her? How am I going to find her in a big city like this, especially with my fully packed schedule?" Trevor asked again not long after.
'I am sorry for that, sir. However, because it has nothing to do with my mission in this system, I can't help you find her. Though, I will accompany you wherever you go.'
Trevor sighed.
So he has to find the woman by himself? It might take time, but he would definitely find her someday. Because what happened to him in the past was still a mystery, and he believed that she had the answers he was looking for.
Someday, he would find her and reveal all the irregularities in his case.
