When we entered the small hospital room where we all barely fit, a wave of silence washed over us as we all took in Demyan's sleeping figure on the hospital bed. He looked so fragile as an oxygen mask rested over his mouth and nose. The beeping sounds from his vital machines filled the room as he slowly breathed.
He looked so small with his hair a mess, dark circles under his eyes and his skin pale. I had not noticed how much weight he had lost until they had changed him out of his clothes into his hospital gown.
It felt like a flash of deja vu when I saw him like this. He looked so young just like how he was when he was five. He had somehow ventured into the forest without any of us noticing back at the farm at Pa's. We had searched for him for the entire day until a storm broke out forcing us back in.
