I clung tightly to Zane, my heart heavy with dread as my instincts screamed at me to run from the malevolence emanating from the strange man. His pale complexion gave him an almost malnourished appearance, but there was something undeniably unnatural about his presence that sent shivers down my spine.
The man's blood-red eyes locked onto me, and he leisurely ran his unnaturally long and razor-sharp teeth across his lips, forming a chilling grin.
"How odd. The snack you brought for me bears a striking resemblance to a woman I knew," the man began, his voice oddly thin and wiry.
"Snack?" I blurted out, my words escaping before I could think twice about them.
"He knows what I'm talking about, don't you?" the man cooed, directing his unsettling attention toward Zane. With each step he took closer, Zane pushed me further behind him, his face contorted with both anger and protectiveness.
