"So, which one of you was it?"
Lucilia was sitting behind her desk in her office, staring at the three people across from her. Cilan, the butler who had served her family for years, was born on Volaria; he had blonde hair and the trait everyone born on Volaria had: brightly colored eyes. In his case, they were bright green.
Rumia was a younger maid who had served Lucilia for about three years now. Like Cilan, she also had blonde hair, except she had brightly blue-colored eyes. She was smaller in frame and tended to stay in the kitchen and clean.
Mona was close to Lucilia in age; she had long orange hair and matching bright orange eyes. She didn't talk much, but it was pretty well known, like Cilan. She wasn't pleased with Ren being there. She had a similar build to the princess but had a bit of a smaller chest.
"I asked which one of you was it?" Lucilia repeated herself with an angrier tone.
"What do you mean, princess-" Cilan was saying before Lucilia interrupted.
"Who poisoned Ren?" She asked with a dark expression in her eyes.
"Ren was poisoned?" Rumia asked.
While Rumia wasn't a fan of Ren, she didn't dislike him either. All she cared about was her princess's wishes; her own opinion on what the princess did didn't matter in the end.
"Yes, after he took a bite from the dessert you three made." Lucilia said.
The three looked at each other, terrified.
"We weren't the only ones there; Linde and Petra were also-" Mona tried to explain.
"Be honest, do you think either of those two could hurt someone, much less try to kill someone? Now it was one of you three, so who was it?" Lucilia asked the three.
"You made the mixing, Rumia." Mona accused Rumia.
"Well, you're the one who put the icing on." Rumia said back to Mona.
"Rumia was the one who got the fruits, so she must've been the one to poison Ren." Cilan said.
That sentence made Lucilia's eyebrows rise after hearing it.
"Cilan..."
"Yes Princess?" Cilan said, looking up at Lucilia.
"I never said it was the fruit that poisoned Ren..."
Cilan's eyeballs nearly popped out of his head. He realized he said something unnecessary in an attempt to throw the accusation onto someone else, which has now caused him to dig his own grave.
"Are you sure, princess? I could've swore you did." Cilan said trying to find a way to get out of what he said.
"No, I said he was poisoned by the dessert; I never said what part caused it." Lucilia said.
It was then that Rumia came to a realization.
"Princess, if I may speak?" she asked Lucilia.
"Go ahead..." Lucilia said, still angrily looking at Cilan.
"Cilan was the one who spent the most time with the fruits; he washed them and put them on the dessert." Rumia explained her observations to Lucilia.
"Oh, really now..." Lucila's eyes glared at Cilan, who was now sweating bullets.
"Princess, you have to believe me. Who are you going to trust more, me and this girl who isn't even old enough to buy a car?" Cilan said trying his best to turn the conversation around.
"Cilan, more than anyone, it was you who hated Ren the most. So I will ask you, Did you do it?" Lucilia said.
Cilan stayed silent, not wanting to say anything.
Lucilia then yelled out, and two female guards wearing military uniforms appeared at the door to the office.
"Vivi, Edel...lock Cilan in the library and make sure you have guards watching him at all times." Lucilia said.
"Yes ma'am." The two said this while saluting.
The two dragged Cilan away as he yelled out in pure desperation, "Princess, please believe me!"
Lucilia ignored every word; she then turned to another guard and asked, "Colette, is the doctor here yet?" She asked.
"Yes, ma'am, she arrived during your meeting; she is currently with Ren, treating him." Colette responded.
"Good, take me there," Lucilia said.
"Although, ma'am, I must warn you, the doctor didn't come alone..." Colette said, and after she said who she was, Lucilia's eyes widened.
"We have to hurry!"
*In Rens Room*
Ren was still on the bed, unconscious, as the doctor was treating him.
Dr. Anessa was not born on Volaria; she was born on a different planet that became part of the empire, and she had different features from the people of Volaria; her skin color was more gray in tone, and her eyes were nearly pitch black with a blue pupil. Her hands had four fingers, and she was slightly taller than the average person from Volaria.
She put her hands on Ren's chest, and her pupils turned a pink color. This was her species way of observing what was happening in a person's body. She could sense everything with a touch, as if she had x-ray vision, and could see how their organs were operating.
"Heartbeat inconsistent; poison is making its way through his system." Dr. Anessa said, observing him.
"Will he live?" another woman in the room said.
"Without treatment, he would die in a matter of hours; luckily, I should be able to stop the poison fairly easily." Dr. Anessa said.
"Good, because if something happened to him, my—" the woman was saying before she was interrupted by the door slamming open.
"MOM, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
Lucilia charged open the door and laid eyes upon her very own mother.
Like Lucilia, she was very beautiful; she had long brown hair and glowing crimson eyes; however, her body was more mature than Lucilia's, with beautifully big breasts and exquisite curves. She was in her mid-30s, but if you saw her, you'd think she was in her mid-late twenties.
"It's good to see you, Lucilia; as you can see, I'm here to check on this boy you seem so infatuated with." Her mother said with a smile as she faced the sleeping Ren. "He's definitely handsome; I can understand why you like him."
"Ivy, please focus; hand me another cooling pad." Doctor Anessa said, looking at Ren.
"Okay, Doctor Anessa." Ivy said with a smile.
"Wait, you're helping?" Lucilia said.
"Yes, me and Doctor Anessa bumped into each other on the way here, so she told me what happened, and I chose to help. However, this is not how I expected to meet my future son." Ivy said, looking at Ren.
"We're not married...yet." Lucilia said it with a hint of a smile.
"Oh, Lucilia, it seems you carried over some of my traits...however I can clearly see why." Ivy said, looking at Ren. "If only my daughter wasn't the first one to lay eyes on you..."
"What were you thinking about, mother?" Lucilia asked her mother who was staring at Ren.
"Nothing, just helping out Ren here." Ivy said it with a smile, but that smile slowly shifted into a more cold face. "By the way...who did it?"
"It was Cilan, I believe." Lucilia said.
"Cilan, huh? Any proof?" Ivy asked.
"Nothing is concrete, but he knew some things only the person who did it could know." Lucilia answered.
Ivy smiled and looked at her daughter. "Well, it's a good thing you have such a caring mother."
*In the kitchen*
"You installed cameras in my house?" Lucilia asked, seeing her pull a camera out of a statue.
"Of course, after all, I always need to keep an eye on you, and it also helped me know what you were up to now that you haven't been answering my calls; I can see you were busy." Ivy teased her daughter.
"You know?" Lucilia asked.
"Do I know you've been staying attached to a boy, sleeping in the same bed as him, as well as your shower peaks?" Ivy teased. "Yes, yes, I do."
Lucilia's face started to blush after hearing what her mother said.
"Now watch the video." Ivy said holding up a tablet.
The video played and it showed Cilan and the two other maids making the cake however something got noticed by the two watching the video, Cilan held a needle and injected something into the fruit
"What was that he injected into the fruit?" Lucilia asked.
"I'd say that's more than likely the poison." Ivy said.
Lucilia's fists clenched as she said to Colette, who was standing nearby "Bring him here...now."
Colette did as she said and dragged Cilan out from the room he was kept in, along with Vivi and Edel who were standing behind him.
"So, Cilan...why did you do it?" Lucilia asked.
Cilan, however, looked at the woman next to Lucilia. "Empress Ivy, when did you arrive?"
"Answer my daughter's question, Cilan." Ivy responded with a cold glare.
Cilan looked at Lucilia, who was also looking at him coldly.
"I was protecting you, Lucilia..." Cilan said as he resigned himself to his fate.
"Protecting? You tried to poison me, and in turn, you poisoned Ren! How is that protecting me?" Lucilia yelled out.
"I had the cure ready in case you ate some; you would've have suffered for long. I just wanted him to be gone!" He's our enemy! We are at war with his people, who killed ours without hesitation; they started this war, so why should we treat any of them with kindness?"Cilan said.
Lucilia looked at Cilan with anger; he was obviously biased, but she had a feeling why he felt that way.
"It's because of Silas, isn't it?" Lucilia asked.
Silas was Cilan's younger brother, who died four years earlier in the war against the people of Earth. Cilan was infuriated with their people and cheered for their eventual defeat.
"Yes, his people brutally killed Silas, who was too young, and now I see one of their people living here in luxury because you have a stupid infatuation with him. WHAT MAKES HIM SO FUCKING SPECIAL? Staying as close to him as possible will only get you killed, Lucilia. Your father would never accept him being here; you know, as well as I do, he would strike against him, and I swore to myself that I would never let family be killed by his people again. So I took care of the problem. Now he should die in agony, just like Silas!"
"Well, I got some news for you, Cilan; Ren will survive." Ivy said, looking at Silas.
"How..." Silas reacted; he knew he filled those fruits up with enough poison to kill him. How is he still alive?
"If I'm here...then who do you think I brought with me?" Ivy said with a sadistic smile.
"No...." Cilan realized what she meant by that.
Lucilia, who's fists were clenched so far that her nails were cut into her palm skin, looked at Cilan with the same hatred in her eyes that he had for Ren.
"Cilan, I sentence you, as a princess of Volaria, to death by cliff waves immediately. Guards, you know what to do." Lucilia said with a cold expression and darkness in her eyes.
"No, please, princess, I beg of you, just kill me now; don't do this to me!" Cilan yelled, begging for mercy.
"If you expect me to show mercy after you not only attempted to poison me but successfully poisoned someone I care about...you are sorely mistaken, Cilan."
Cilan was dragged out, screaming against his will, by the mansion guards.
"You did the right thing, Lucilia." Ivy said to her daughter.
"No, I didn't... I should have made him suffer more." Lucilia said it coldly with darkened eyes.
It was then that the door to Ren's room opened.
"Empress, princess...he has awakened."
