Amari had to wait a bit of time for Melissa to regain her senses. Most of her wounds were healed, but she still remained dishevelled. Just looking at it made him angrier than he should have been.
He wasn't stupid. A little dense sometimes, yes, but there was a reason he and Ned decided to let the girl go. If she was extorting money as young as she was, then it was clear that she was in desperate need of it.
Otherwise, they'd have just killed her.
"What are you bastards doing here?" she mumbled, head slumped to the side.
They went back to Ralph's shop since standing at the foot of the grand stairs was a little conspicuous.
"That's the first thing you ask?" he shot back, causing her to stir from her sleep. "What happened to you? Who hurt you?"
At the mention of that, she seemed to regain consciousness almost immediately; like a bucket of cold water was doused over her head.
