If anything, it hurt to see Carter in pain. That boy had broken his heart. I didn't know his story, I didn't even care. If Carter decided to be happy next to someone else I didn't care, but it didn't seem fair to me that someone would play with his feelings, not after he had risked his life.
Glen was gone, Wallace was gone. Only Carter and I were left, in those empty walls that echoed just breathing.
Carter was still looking down, still in shock, still trying to recover from what had happened. In a moment of desperation I reached over and grabbed his hand. His eyes weren't even red, he was at a loss, as if something had been stuck inside his heart.
"Hey" I said, trying to get his eyes to fix on me.
"I think at any moment you can abandon me, after all, I don't deserve to be happy".
"I won't abandon you" I said, as I caressed her cheeks. His eyes mirrored my face and I could feel hope.
