As the corridors shortened and I walked, between increasingly rusty staircases, Bill's shadow grew farther and farther away, moving slowly, going slowly so I wouldn't get lost in his footsteps.
My mind was closing as the walls grew smaller and my feet began to echo. I didn't know what I had gotten myself into, I didn't even know if it was right or wrong.
As my heart began to race and I felt the pulses racing through my chest, I realized what an idiot I was, but it was too late to turn around. I had no choice but to keep walking until I reached my destination.
Bill stopped when we heard voices in the distance, I realized what an asshole I was when those voices were choppy until I felt myself sinking, clinging to the wall so I wouldn't be discovered.
Several seconds, maybe minutes, passed when the owners of the voices started running in my direction.
