Yuè awoke with a start, his heart hammering in his chest like thunder before a storm. Yet, the fact that it was beating at all had him confused.
The last thing he remembered was Edgar's hands around his throat, choking the life from him. But now he was staring up at an unfamiliar earthly colored ceiling with the heavy scent of spring lingering in the air.
A whimper of pain passed through his lips as he blinked away the blurriness of his vision. Where was he, exactly? Had someone saved him?
His heart sped up, this time for a different reason. Could it have been one of the wolves? Had they come for him? Or had someone drug him back to stand trial for Lord Payton's death?
He swallowed thickly, his eyes tracing the cracks in the ceiling before he stilled when he heard the creak of a door.
"I see you are awake," The familiar sound of Elarion's voice greeted him. "Thought we had lost you for a moment. You're bruised, but there's nothing broken."
