Yuè shivered as he looked out the window, watching the snowfall on the frozen landscape. The sun hung low on the horizon, casting long shadows across the snow-covered path that wound its way down the mountain.
He wrapped his arms around himself, and although Gunter was by his side with his hand in Yuè's own, Yuè still felt cold and alone. Gunter could only protect him so much. He was not the owner of these lands.
That was what Lord Payton had told Emery once before when he too tried to interfere.
He knew that Marcellus planned to tell the man no, but what if he lied? What if it had been some sick joke to keep Yuè from trying to run away again? He would love to believe that it wasn't, but Marcellus was a mystery to him, even with their recent time together.
