"Let's get going" Jessie said as she got up. I was still extremely exhausted but I still got up. we snuck towards the closest alley.
Monsters of many variations walked around looking for people. Some monsters were like bugs, some like wolves and others looked like birds. Every monster seemed to mimic a real world animal as if they were mutations of the normal thing.
After reaching the alley we looked around for the next place could hide. As I looked I noticed a 5 year old girl being chased by a large centipede.
I thought about going in and trying to save her but i'm no hero, plus if I got a low roll we both would be doomed, on the other hand i'm always lucky when i'm playing mobile gacha games. No I should just leave her.
Suddenly Jessie ran out of the alley as she summoned two swords. She was beautiful as she jumped into air and cut the beast in half. Then she crouched down and hugged the girl. "come with me kid" she told the kid in a calm voice.
They both ran back to the alley while I continued to stand still. "why didn't you help?" she questioned "I'm not sure" was the only reply I could muster. "What's your name kid?" I asked "v-veronica" she stuttered.
"Do you know where your parents are?" I said, she just burst into tears and fell to the floor. Even when I was a young boy I was never good with people especially in bad situations, when my mom died I had no clue what I was supposed to say to my dad for months.
That"s when I realized I hadn't called my dad yet. Quickly I pulled out my phone and called my dad... there was no answer. This was no time to mourn we had to reach the police station fast.
"I saw another empty alley not too far" Jessie announced. We let Veronica cry and then set out for the next alley. We hid in the shadows as we walked along the street for 3 minutes until we reached the next alley.
When I entered the alley I saw a strange pure white humanoid creature with no face. "what is that" I whispered "i'm not sure, it might be one of the monsters so be careful" Jessie suggested.
"i'm scared" Veronica interjected. Suddenly the entity disappeared out of thin air. Veronica cried and hugged Jessie's leg.
I proceeded into the alley with caution but after a few seconds I realized everything was ok. I could now see the police station far off in the distance, it was like a beacon of hope, a chance for survival. Unfortunately the other thing I could see was hundreds of monsters covering the street leading to the station.
"we've got a problem" I told Jessie "what is it?" she replied "monsters, lots of them" I said. she peeked around the corner as she gave a shocked expression. "what if we try taking the roofs!" she suggested, "how would we get up?" I remarked. "do you think Ice axes could climb a building?"
she asked "that might work, no harm in trying" I said. she created three sets of ice axes and handed one to me and one to Veronica.
All of us tried our hardest to scale the building but about halfway up the building it was setting in that this might not be possible, we were all just too exhausted and the axe's barely worked. Veronica was especially struggling, it hurt to watch as this little kid fought for her life after losing her parents.
"Veronica get on my back" I said. It would be much harder to climb but I couldn't stand watching her in pain. She hustled over to me and grabbed onto my back. Bit by bit we climbed.
Maybe we would actually be able to make it to top everything was starting to look up, we can do this! After another 20 minutes of climbing we made it to the top.
Luckily all of the building are close enough to each other we barely have to even jump. We strolled across the buildings while we inched closer and closer towards the station.
At about two thirds of the way there I started to notice small wolf creatures attempt to climb the buildings, for wolves they were strangely good at climbing.
Slowly more wolves started to climb higher to the point Jessie and I were both quite concerned. There were now only 5 buildings until we would be able to reach the station. When I turned back I saw about 20 wolves on top of buildings behind us running towards our exact location "run!" I exclaimed. Jessie and Veronica both joined me as we ran as fast as possible.
I couldn't waste my 1 roll every 5 minutes on speed because I needed to roll durability to try and get us down from the buildings easily but it was looking really bad. These wolves were some of the fastest things i've ever seen. The wolves had three eyes and large teeth, quite menacing creatures.
Jessie started attempting to shoot at some of the wolves but was only able to hit a few, these would not go down even after 4 bullets were out into one yet it still continued to run at the best of it's abilities. We reached the edge of the final building so I rolled for durability, I got a 14. Should be enough to jump down without dying.
I grabbed onto Jessie and Veronica and jumped. They both screamed. When I hit the ground I felt a snap in my right leg. The pain of trying to walk was excruciating. Jessie aided me in walking but then the wolves jumped down from the building too.
With my broken leg I just wouldn't be fast enough to reach the station "go without me" I suggested while tears rolled down my face "no, never" Jessie said. The gates at the front of police station opened up. Jessie's brother looked like an older more masculine version of her "quick get in here!" he screamed.
