Chapter 146 - Chapter 145

That thumbs up was unexpectedly cute. Not exactly something she would expect from someone with the alias of the hunter. As far as she knew, the hunter was someone like the Ashen One back in Lordran. A destined one.

She did not mind giving him the umbilical cord. After all, she had no use for it. And if she could talk things out and be done with giving him the cord, why bother with the rest. She summoned the umbilical cord in her hands and presented it to the hunter.

It was a dry piece of organ that is totally useless for her. Even a bottle of water would have better use in her hands. The hunter froze for a while probably not expecting to get the cord that easily. She did not know what he had experienced before but it probably was not easy trying to gather them.

He took the cord and stared at it for a bit. He then proceeded to put in one of his pockets. With his right hand, he placed his palm on his head and took off his cap bowing at her. Turning his back on her, he went out right away but not before closing the door.

"What the hell was that?", blurted out Fabrizo from behind her. His small hands still clutching at the hem of her dress. Marco did not say anything but his eyes were filled with questions too. The youngest one just looked around in confusion.

Her heart soften at the sight of them looking at her. Despite not knowing them a few minutes ago, she felt such familiarity with them that if felt so overwhelming. She pushed down the head of Fabrizio as he stared at her with such fanfare his eyes might as well be popping off.

"It was nothing, okay? Just one of my acquaintances.", she replied hastily to reassure them for not even she knows what was going on for sure.

She looked at the door and decided to go out. She did not think anything would happen from staying in this room. It also gives her the chance to collect more information. It was also partly exciting, for it was new land unknown to her.

"Let's go out. All of us. You two will wait here for me.", she said as she took the youngest girl with her to the inner part of the house. She already knew where everything was by scanning inside.

Her access to the outside world was blocked for unknown reasons. She had a feeling her questions would be answered outside.

By washing the face and combing over the hair of the little one, she noticed how rough it looked and felt. Despite being so young, it would not be good for a child's hair to be as rough as this. Brushing the comb over her child's hair was something she would treasure forever.

She was acting like the mother of a newborn but paid it no mind. The little one did not make a ruckus or caused a fuss reassuring her. While, she did not like to keep people in the dark, she did not want her children to be part of anything that could potentially be dangerous.

She was also well aware of how hasty she was acting by going out not even an hour after she got here. It must have seemed strange in the eyes of her kids by she was thankful they did not inquire any further.

After dressing Julia, she carried her in her arms and walked out to see the pair of brothers waiting. They already put on their shoes and were in an intense discussion. They stopped as soon as she arrived.

She did not mind. It was normal for children to keep a few things from their parents. She carried Julia in her arms as she walked out of the door. Before even stepping out, the first thing she noticed was the smell.

It smelt of blood everywhere. It was not a recent affair either. Instead, it was as if they used blood to put bricks together instead of cement. It was embedded into the foundation of the city itself. No amount of rain would wash it away.

Blood was the most overwhelming thing she smells but there were other things. The smell of burning flesh, rotten meat, rancid smoke and even sewage. Enough to make anyone sick but the children did not even blink an eye to it.

For her, it was nostalgic. The blood was something she has never smelt in great quantities but the rest were all reminiscent of old times in Lordran. She walked ahead to nowhere in particular with her daughter in her hands while the two boys followed.

She could not see the sun but it was orange all around in a similar way to an evening. And this place would be an architect's wet dream for the city of Yharnam seems to dislike the word simple. With bricks and spikes all around, it was more similar to a military fortress.

With damp bricks as roads, filled with sticky blood instead of mud it would not be wrong to call this city hell on Earth. The residents she was seeing certainly did not make things much better. They all look like homeless vagrants wearing rags from the era of the industrial revolution.

With holds in their clothes and bandages around their necks, they were certainly not pretty sights. She saw mobs of them just standing around alleyways chanting "Bless us with blood".

Crackheads would be a more common way of describing back on Earth. She felt a tug to her dress when she was Marco and Fabrizo cling onto her. She smiled at this but said nothing.

She also saw small vials of red liquid that she believed to be blood in their hands. Their hands shake in a similar action to drug addicts as they bring the bottle close to their mouth and drank them like the elixir of life itself.

It was also getting darker? How does that even work? She was a bit unused to this sensation since metal braces no longer cover her eyes. The boys were also coming back so it makes sense that it was getting late. There was no problem if she were alone but with her children, she decided to go back.

The walk back home was at lot less exciting due to the gradual absence of people. It hasn't even been an hour since she came out but exploring could wait for another day. She was in no hurry. Unfournately, that doesn't seem to be the case for city of Yharnam.

Just a few turns away from getting back to the house, a commotion arose with sounds of loud noises and crowds screaming. She would have ignored it but it was coming straight towards her. Barging right in front of her eyes was something she could not describe.

It was ... a beast??
