Kah spent some time explaining what my job was in this partnership.
Apparently, in the galaxy there are a variety of Members of the Cosmos who control and maintain all of the different celestial bodies and worlds out there. They were pretty vague with the details of these creatures, but everyone holds control over many worlds and stars. Since these creatures hold many worlds in their domain, sometimes some worlds start to slip out of their hands due to negliegence and forgetting. This means that they become available for the taking for other Members.
But it's not as simple as just going there and claiming it as your own. When they slip out of the hands of the Members of the Cosmos, the worlds end up having some problem within them that creates some obstacle or issue. The worlds may have had many other issues even when under the control of someone, but one specific issue appears when it passes away from someone's domain.
The job of me, Sekan Doho, then becomes travelling to one of these worlds, finding the supposed problem that is happening, and then fixing it to claim it under our own domain.
Honestly, this story was immediately really strange to me. Especially as, when Kah was explaining, they kept glancing away awkwardly and explained some things very vaguely. At the same time though, I also feel it is hard not to believe it at this stage. After I've seen myself fly away from the surface of earth into space, it's hard to hold onto any beliefs I once thought were obvious. Is left even left anymore, and right is right? I ask that since everything I thought was right seems to be wrong.
For example, when I asked why I was able to breathe in space, Kah just said "I just borrowed a piece of the atmosphere from some planet and placed it in front of your face". Is that even possible...?
Although it would explain why it sometimes feels windy even though we're inside some big space station, and why I can't really smell anything. Which might be a good thing, because when I've seen E-ver clean it doesn't look good at all. It looks like he's never even done it before in his 72-year long life.
Was it really a good idea to leave the cleaning to a spoiled, prideful vampire noble, Kah...?
...
*Sigh*
- I can't believe my job turned out to be something as scary and grandiose like this...
I have to go to different worlds and solve their issues? I wasn't even able to solve my own issues back on earth, what am I supposed to do about a whole world? Do I not have anything to help me either when I'm there?-
Lying on my bed in the room I was given, I stared up at the roof contemplating my new work. This bed wasn't even close to as comfortable as my older one was, it felt like a metal rectangle with hard leather put on top. Even though there were countless rooms in this corridor, Kah decided to put my room right next to E-ver's while his own room, the biggest one, was on another floor entirely.
"Figure it out somehow"
Those were the words they left us with when we had complained. Even though Kah usually spoke in a formal and business-like way, the way they said those words was very cold and calculating. It constantly feels like they're one step ahead of me or something.
The room I was given was surprisingly big though, but barely anything was in it. Only a bed, a desk, a chair, and a couple crates. All made out of metal.
-Just how much metal did they have...? -
But there was one thing I also found in the corner, hidden away behind one of the crates. As I put it into my hand and put a firm grip onto it, I heard footsteps outside my room, and the door open soon after.
"Are you planning on killing me?"
I was holding a pistol-like thing in my hand. It must've been something that was left behind by those who occupied this place before. It was a lot bigger than the pistols I was accustomed to seeing, but it fit pretty snuggily in my hand. Not in the moment though, the sweat from my hand made it feel slippery all of a sudden
"N-Not at all, I just found happened to fi----"
"Because you wouldn't be able to, I would've easily been able to dodge it through reflexes alone. I already dodged the bullets multiple times when I and Kah and that other idiot Manken conquered this ship, Hahahahaha. I really want to discipline your idiotic brain, but I'll get in deep trouble."
"..."
The person who'd opened the door was E-ver, and his grandiose ramblings seemed to continue as per usual. He flipped his hair to the side dramatically as he put a smirk on his face
"Still, your room looks as bad as I would expect. Of course you wouldn't know since you're a newbie, but all of those metal crates used to hold cheap grain in them. In other words, this was like a storage room that someone had to sleep in as well"
"What kind of insult is that...? It's not like I chose to be in this room, nor did I decorate anything. What does your room look like then...?!"
"Kehehe"
With a devious laughter like that, I got slightly nervous all of a sudden. Standing before the door to E-ver's house, I looked down at the doorhandle reluctantly.
I felt the presence of a very proud and self-satisfied vampire behind me. Even without looking behind me, I could already see the huge grin on his face in my head.
- Maybe I shouldn't have asked... -
"Go on, be amazed."
*Sigh*
*KACHAN*
-So Bright-----!! -
It was so bright I had a hard time even holding my eyes opened to the sight before me. If I were to have been back on earth, something like this would've brought me tears of joy. Now I couldn't help but feel tears of sadness and envy burn in the back of my throat for a moment.
A room fully made out of gold came into my view as I opened the door. It sparkled very bright from the light coming out of the golden-decorated chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
"El Dorado...!?
No...
El Cuarto!!!"
"Nobles should really live with gold and splendor after all. It's natural"
The surfaces of the bed, desk, bookshelves, and even the floor were as smooth as to make it seem like they've never been touched before or like they were just made a few seconds ago. Not a single dirty spot or fingerprint in sight.
Filled with fury and anger, I tightened my right fist and turned toward E-ver
"Is this what you spent all of your time cleaning, you god-forsaken Fake Vampire!!!??"
...
The space station was really big and spacious. Many long hallways and open rooms with entrances leading to staircases for other floors. Except for Sekan, E-ver and Kah, it was also completely empty. It would've been very easy to get lost if it weren't for the fact that everything was very dark in the unused parts of the station. So to navigate correctly, all you had to do was follow the lit parts.
The central room Kah and his company of associates used was the Control room of the station, which laid on top of a very long set of stairs. Exhausted from the enormous exercise, Sekan took a moment to gather himself again after finishing the climb.
The control room had been the main area of command from when the human pirates occupied the station. It was a relatively large room with crescent-shaped metal spaces on either side and a main bridge going through the middle of it, and directly under it was a huge opening directly into space. It looked like it'd been blasted open through some warfare.
The bridge was really wide, and the railing was wholly solid, so Sekan didn't have to worry too much about anything in reality. But his legs were still trembling as he tried making his way across toward the shadowy figure ahead.
Kah stood at the end of the bridge in a menacing pose, crossing their stubby limbs with the legs spread apart. Sekan had no idea if they were facing his way or the other way. The steps felt heavier the closer he came. Kah's aura was still strong as usual, although Sekan didn't know why it was suddenly stronger than it was last time they spoke.
*TA*
Finally, with one last step, Sekan arrived in front of Kah.
"Welcome.
I am pleased you could find your way here for this important occasion"
*Haa, haa, haa*
"Yeah sure, but why did we have to meet all the way here...? Even Karyuu from class 2C would've been tired walking all the way here, and the open hole right under me is terrifying.
...
Are you even facing this way?"
Trying to look at the head of Kah, Sekan was unable to find any facial features at all, but the rest of their body seemed to be in the right direction. Sekan wondered if Kah was like an owl for a moment.
Then suddenly, the facial features he'd seen before suddenly showed up on his face
"My condolence, I must've had my face in the wrong direction...
It doesn't have any significance to me since I see in all directions at the same time"
"The more you describe yourself, the scarier you seem..."
"Well, that's how it is in this form at least"
" 'This form'...?"
"That's irrelevant to this conversation.
The point is!
I gathered you here to officially crown you in as a member of my Company of Associates and as a Partner, and then send you on your first mission...!!"
It came as a surprise to Sekan, who was taken aback for a moment.
- It's a lot sooner than I expected. But even though I don't really feel ready yet, I have no choice but to take this opportunity as soon as possible. I hope I don't get anything complicated or difficult though...
Please!!! -
