Chapter 16 - THE ORCHESTRA (part 1)

Sect Leader Yang sat at his ornate desk, surrounded by scrolls and ancient artifacts in his dimly lit chamber. He knew that the upcoming martial arts contest was a pivotal moment for the Jao Sect, a chance to secure their dominance in the martial arts world. Elder Chuang He, a trusted advisor with his own ambitious agenda, had requested a private audience.

Elder Chuang He entered the room with an air of authority, his robes adorned with symbols of power. He bowed respectfully to Sect Leader Yang before speaking, his voice carrying the weight of his intentions. "Sect Leader Yang, I have a proposal that could ensure our sect's supremacy in the contest."

Sect Leader Yang regarded him with a cautious expression. "Speak, Elder Chuang. What is your proposal?"

Elder Chuang He leaned in closer, lowering his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "Reece is our greatest asset, but he can be even more. If we use him strategically in the contest, we can fuel our ambitions and secure our place as the strongest sect."

Sect Leader Yang furrowed his brow, intrigued but wary. "How do you suggest we use Reece?"

Elder Chuang He explained his plan, detailing how Reece could be manipulated and strategically placed in battles against rival sects, all with the aim of weakening them and ensuring the Jao Sect's victory. "Reece is a formidable warrior, and his skills are unmatched. If we control his every move, we can ensure he brings glory to our sect and don't forget he like demon beasts' core and you can also use your daughter as leverage to sway him."

Sect Leader Yang considered the proposal carefully. He knew that Reece was a valuable asset, but using him as a pawn in such a manner came with risks. "This plan could yield great rewards, but it also carries great risks. Reece is undoubtedly grateful to my daughter and has a liking to her."

Elder Chuang He nodded knowingly. "We will need to be discreet and manipulate him subtly. Make him believe it is for the greater good of the sect. In the end, he will have no choice but to follow our guidance."

Sect Leader Yang sighed, torn between ambition and ethics. "Very well, Elder Chuang. Proceed with your plan, but remember, if Reece ever discovers our intentions, it could spell disaster for the Jao Sect."

Elder Chuang He nodded, a calculating glint in his eyes. "Rest assured, Sect Leader Yang, I will handle this with the utmost discretion. Reece will be a pawn in our grand scheme, and the Jao Sect's supremacy will be assured."

The sect leader asked the disciples who stood guard outside to fetch his daughter immediately and bring her to him.  Sect Leader Yang sat with a grave expression, his daughter Lucy standing before him, a mixture of curiosity and concern in her eyes. He had a proposition that weighed heavily on his conscience, and he knew he had to tread carefully.

"Sect Leader Yang, what is it that you wish to discuss with me?" Lucy inquired; her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Sect Leader Yang cleared his throat and spoke with a measured tone. "Lucy, you know that the upcoming martial arts contest is of utmost importance to our sect. The fate and reputation of the Jao Sect hang in the balance."

Lucy nodded, aware of the significance of the contest. "Yes, Father, I understand."

Sect Leader Yang continued, choosing his words carefully. "I believe that Reece is a key player in this contest. He possesses extraordinary skills and abilities that could bring great honor to our sect."

Lucy raised an eyebrow, sensing that there was more to her father's words than met the eye. "Reece is indeed a formidable warrior, but what would you have me do?"

Sect Leader Yang hesitated before revealing his plan. "Lucy, I want you to get close to Reece, to befriend him, and to... try to make him take a liking to you before the contest."

Lucy's eyes widened in surprise. "Father, you're asking me to use my feelings to manipulate him. To seduce him?"

Sect Leader Yang nodded with a heavy heart. "I know it's a difficult request, my daughter, but the fate of our sect hangs in the balance. If Reece fights with our sect's best interests at heart, we have a better chance of victory."

Lucy struggled to reconcile her loyalty to her father and her own moral compass. "But Father, is it right to use someone's emotions like this? To manipulate them for our gain?"

Sect Leader Yang sighed deeply. "I understand your concerns, Lucy, but sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good. We're not just thinking of ourselves but of the entire Jao Sect and the legacy it carries."

Lucy looked down, torn between her loyalty to her sect and her ethical reservations. After a moment of silence, she reluctantly nodded. "I'll do as you ask, Father, but I hope that we do not lose sight of what's right in our pursuit of victory."

Sect Leader Yang placed a reassuring hand on Lucy's shoulder. "Thank you, my dear. I know this is a difficult task, but I believe you can handle it with the grace and wisdom that you possess. Our sect's destiny is in your hands."

As father and daughter exchanged one final glance filled with unspoken emotions, they knew that the path they had chosen was fraught with moral complexities and uncertainties.

Lucy left her father's chambers with a heavy heart, the weight of their conversation lingering in her thoughts. As she walked through the corridors of the Jao Sect's stronghold, her mind was filled with doubts and conflicting emotions.

However, her reverie was abruptly interrupted when a young disciple came rushing towards her, panting and out of breath. The urgency in his eyes was impossible to ignore.

"Lucy!" the disciple exclaimed, "I have important news about Reece's origin, please tell the sect master."

Lucy's heart raced as she turned her full attention to the young disciple. "What news do you bring?" she asked, her voice filled with anticipation.

The disciple quickly explained the shocking revelation. "It has been uncovered that the Grand Elder of the Jao Sect was responsible for the massacre of the Lucien family. And there's more, Lucy—the last living member of the Lucien family has been found."

Lucy's eyes widened in disbelief and horror. The implications of this revelation were staggering. She had been tasked with manipulating Reece, and now it seemed there was a darker secret involving her own sect.

"What do you mean, the last living member?" Lucy demanded, her voice trembling.

The disciple continued, "There is a surviving servant of the Lucien family, hidden away all these years. The Grand Elder has recently become aware of this, and he is determined to find and eliminate the last remnants of the Lucien family to erase any evidence of his past actions."

Lucy's mind raced as she processed this information. She now faced a moral dilemma that went beyond her father's orders. She needed to decide whether to follow her father's directive to manipulate Reece or to protect the innocent survivor of the Lucien family from the Grand Elder's wrath.

With a resolute expression, Lucy turned to the disciple. "Tell me everything you know about the whereabouts of the last living member of the Lucien family. We must act quickly to ensure their safety."

As the two of them huddled in a secluded corner of the stronghold, Lucy knew that her path had taken an unexpected turn, and she was now faced with choices that were either conceal the matter or tell Reece about it.

She glanced at the disciple, once a dear friend and fellow disciple, but now a deadly threat. He held secrets that could overturn the already unstable environment of the Jao sect. She had to silence him or risk spreading the information further.

Lucy's hand slipped into the folds of her cloak, fingers wrapping around the hilt of a concealed dagger. She knew the decision she was about to make was irreversible, that it would mark the end of a life and the secret would accompany him to his grave.

With a swift, silent motion, Lucy drew the dagger and pressed it against the disciple's throat. Her voice quivered as she whispered, "I had no choice I'm sorry, in the next life I'll repay you tenfold for this deed." The disciple's eyes widened in fear, but it was too late to plead or explain.

Lucy's grip tightened, her resolve firm, and she made the agonizing choice to silence the disciple for good. The deed was done, and as the life drained from the disciples' eyes, Lucy felt a mixture of relief and sorrow wash over her.
