The next morning, the loud beeping of the alarm, jarred Ray out of this peaceful sleep. His eyes shot open, but he immediately regretted it as the room's bright light assaulted his eyes. He reached out and with just a single stroke, the alarm went off. Then, he grumpily stumbled out of bed, anxious to see whether Anna had texted or called.
His eyes scanned the bed for his phone, but he couldn't find it.
He was sure he must have dozed off still holding onto the phone. He flung off the duvet that wrapped him up and looked down to the floor and that was when he saw the phone.
It must have slipped off while he was asleep, he thought.
To his disappointment, there was nothing on his phone's screen that was from Anna.
He sighed.
Had he misread her signals?
Had she changed her mind about him?
His mind whirled with questions, but he knew there was no way to find out the answers right then.
What do I do now?
