"Meeting dismissed!" Madam Charlotte said to the maids.
Anna glanced at the new butler one last time before going to the kitchen to take Elizabeth's food to her room.
Stepping close to the door, she raised her hand to knock on the door. She kept her ears clear to listen any small cries coming from the room. When the door opened, Helen stepped outside. Her eyebrows furrowed upon seeing her.
"How may I help you?" Helen stared down at the tray of food.
Anna looked at her confused. Didn't she see the food in her hand?
"I came to give Elizabeth breakfast." She brought her hand closer to Helen.
"Take the food back. She is not hungry." Helen said in a stern voice.
"But she hadn't eaten anything since yesterday." Anna said to her.
"I said take the food back! You wouldn't want what happened last time to repeat itself. I won't even give you that chance!" She turned around and opened the door.
As the door opened, Anna took a small peek inside the room to see Elizabeth lying on the bed with her head bald. She was weak with no strength in her. Was this how the Windsor family work? No one cares about each other?
Her lips pressed together and she turned around to leave when she met Marcos.
She sighed upon seeing him there.
"Master Marcos, Elizabeth governess rejected the food that was supposed to be given to Elizabeth." She spoke calmly.
"And?" He raised a brow.
"And she is sick. She needs food to give her strength." Anna protested.
"Leave!" Without waiting for her response, he walked away.
Anna knew something wasn't right at all. This was not about Elizabeth's mental illness but there was something bigger than that. Why allow the poor girl suffer to death? Had she done anything wrong to anger them?
She breathed out before heading back to the kitchen to prepare the food.
The days went on with Anna trying to convince Helen to feed Elizabeth but she refused. When Anna was fed up, she went to meet Charlotte who sent her away after hearing what had happened.
The child was not allowed to step outside her room, eat or play with children of her age. Rather, she was locked in her room without food 24/7.
The days passed by eventfully and the day of the graveyard party finally arrived.
After pondering on how to deal on going to the party, Anna decided to stay at the mansion.
However, she was chosen among the maiden's who would dress Alex up for the party. Anna frowned to herself when she heard the news from Clara. She knew Alex only chose her to suffer her with the work.
Taking the box from the man who delivered the clothes at the Mansion, she headed upstairs to Alex room.
The party would be starting in less than an hour from now and all the maiden's were in a hurry to dress Alex up.
When she opened the box, they were surprised to see a black gown and when they held it up, their eyes yes widened. The theme of the party was gothic style and the dress looked beautiful according to the style.
"Be careful with that dress. It cost more than what you think." Alex said to her.
She bowed her head and plastered an apologetic look on her face.
They stepped forward to place the dress on Alex, the gown cling onto her perfect shape. She paired it with a leather sandals, leaving some part of her skin bare. The makeup made her spooky and more dangerous.
Once everything was done, Alex stared at herself in the mirror with a displeased expression.
"I don't like this gown. It doesn't fit my shape." Alex frowned.
"It does fit you." Anna tried to convince her. They had other works to do and it was past eight'0 in night time.
When Alex turned to look at her, she felt her heart skipped a bit. "Always poke nosing in matters that doesn't concern you. I wonder what Marcos sees in you that will make him get closer to you. Do you see the other maids here? You are not better than them."
"I—"
Before Anna could finish her sentence, the door opened and the butler came inside looking nervous. His eyes scanned the room and when it fell on Anna, he sighed.
"Haven't you been taught on how your job works? I need some privacy! Leave!"
"I'm sorry but Master Marcos told me to bring her." He pointed towards Anna.
"Who?" Alex frowned, looking at him.
"Anna." He replied. "He wants her to get ready for the party."
At this, Alex looked at Anna and the frown on her face deepened.
"Step out of the room this minute or I will turn you into a corpse and bury you in the cemetery alive." Alex warned, to have Anna standing. Not that she was even interested in going to the party with Marcos.
The butler stood there with fear, knowing that Marcos would turn him into his food tonight if he do not bring Anna with him.
"And what are you still doing standing there? Get out!" Alex yelled at him and he dashed out of the room without thinking twice.
