Still in Death City, Christian is ever unknowing of Nina's current whereabouts. Though soon to find out, he has yet to question where she might be. A surprise visit from Nina's sister, Evyna, changes things instantly. Considering she knows something Christian doesn't, there is a lot to unpack. Whether furious, afraid, or worried, Christian doesn't even know himself. The two are forced to cooperate despite their shared enmity.
Death City, Zatarrie
A sense of foreboding washed over me as I clicked on my wristphone to contact Nina. I wasn't entirely sure why I felt that, but I knew it couldn't mean something good. My intuition is quite strong and precise, so when I get a feeling, I know I'm most likely on point.
The wristphone rang quietly as I paced around the living room. No answer. 'That's strange', I think to myself. Nina has never taken longer than two seconds to pick up.
Thoughts, mostly comprised of worries and fears, continued parading my mind until. 'Bang, bang'. I stopped instantly in my subconscious foot pattering. I looked at the door expectantly and intensely at the same time. Then again, 'Bang, bang'. "Nina?", a firm, feminine voice yelled out. It sounded familiar, like… Evyna, I make the realization.
Walking with heavy steps purposely, I march up to the door and swing it open. With just a displeased look as mine Evyna asks, "Ugh, Where's Nina, Christian?". Deciding whether or not to slam the door in her face I reply, "Not home", very tersely. "What's with the attitude? Fall off your high horse?", she responded snarkily. "No, I gave it to you, remember?", I return, grimly. With an eye-roll, she tilts her head away with mock annoyance. "Is that all, or do you need me to show you the door?", I say, when she remains silent. "Do you mean the elevator, ''cause I'm right in front of the door? I swear, you couldn't throw a good comeback to save your life", she finishes with a muttered jeer. "Oh, sorry, I meant the window", I coughed to hide my laughter, only to receive an indecent expression from her that screamed aggrievement.
Sighing deeply she composed herself. And like the narcissistic gaslighter she is, asseverated, "Christian, I don't know what I did to you for you to treat me this way, but for your sake and my sake, so Nina doesn't host a funeral for the both of us… let's be civil". "You are seriously delusional", I state, almost feeling flabbergasted. "Look, I don't want to argue. I just want to know where Nina is, and if you don't know, then I will gladly leave", she says with pity in her voice. Emphatically shocked by her ostentatious arrogance, I slammed the door in her face without a second thought. I didn't even know what to say at that. It's like when someone says or does something so outrageously obnoxious, you are honestly blown away by their level of psychopathy.
I was ready to walk away from the door after recovering from my bewildered state when I heard a muffled, "Christian, can we put our differences aside and focus on the important issue? For Nina?". The only thing that made me turn back around was that she admitted, although very indirectly, that there were issues between us, on both ends.
"What are we going to do?", I say, swinging the tall door wide open. "Find her, and obliterate every person involved in her kidnapping", she plain-out, shamelessly asserted. "I think that's a bit extreme, even for me. Let's focus on locating her first, and then we can decide how we'll deal with those people", I look a little frightened by her grim intensity. Her expression softens as she yields, "Fine. But we are going to avenge her, whether mercifully, or relentlessly". I could honestly say I admired her resolute attitude despite my dislike of her. Don't get me wrong, I like Nina's family; Evyna on the other hand, not so much.
"So, where do we go first?", I ask, grabbing my coat and walking out the door. "That's easy… Magden Laboratories in Lydykauv City", she said without hesitation. "How are you so sure?", I question, afraid of the likely answer. "One thing to know about me, is that you should never ask questions", she informed, my worry dissipating into nonchalance in an instant.
