Chapter 80 - **Ch 80: Dazzled ignorance

After the pain in my head subsided from the pain medication I took, I was able to get out of bed. Afterward, Edgar arranged for a guard to unlock the prison cell for me to use the restroom from down the corridor, located outside the posh-class prisoner enclosure. Regrettably, he escorted me to my cell as the guard, exclusively servicing the Vampire Covenant, locked the bars behind me.

"I do apologize for keeping you caged. We've all agreed it's for your safety," Edgar claimed, standing outside my cell with the guard who clipped the keys back on his belt.

"How is being caged against my will considered to be in the favor of my safety?" I sarcastically asked. "Aren't you going to execute me?"

"The palace is crawling with dangerous Headmasters and their clans. Most of them wouldn't hesitate to harm you or assault you in whatever way they desired behind our backs," Edgar proclaimed rather seriously. "Do keep in mind that you aren't a prisoner here. Just because your execution is in debate right now

doesn't mean you'll be mistreated."

"I suppose I'll take your word for it." I

impassively declared, letting it be as my tummy rumbled in hunger.

"I'll get you some lunch." Edgar softly chuckled. "Any requests?"

"Anything with chocolate, and I'm dying for a rare cooked steak," I ordered, drooling at the thought of satisfying my cravings.

"I'll see what I can do," Edgar kindly replied before turning to the guard. "Make sure she is well cared for in my absence. Aside from myself and Danny, we've agreed no one is to enter her cell," he strictly instructed the guard.

"We'll see to it," the guard proclaimed as another vampire ambled inside the huge doorway.

"Hmm, you better," Edgar warningly hummed, giving them an untrusting gaze before he strode away, disappearing out the large doorway.

Away from my cell, the two guards muttered softly and chuckled in the center of the room while I stood here bored, watching them. Other than a single mattress, there was nothing to entertain myself with. Someone took my phone, so I couldn't call anyone from home or at least browse the internet or play a game. I'd settle for a deck of cards or play a board game myself to keep my mind preoccupied from the boredom.

"Is there any reading material or a board game?" I called out, asking the guards, but they only scowled at me in an unnerving silence. As of now, I have a better understanding as to why Edgar warned them with a distrustful look. Neither guard had any care for my well-being.

To bug them, I cried out again, "I have to pee!" I didn't really need to pee. At least for the time being, I didn't have to go. Mostly, I just wanted to pester them for their rudeness towards me.

They halted their chattering and shot glares my way as they approached my cell.

"You just went!" the guard with the keys snapped.

"You try carrying triplets at seven months while I hold the keys and tell you to hold it!" I retorted, expressing an aura of ignorance rolling off my tongue.

Both vampires growled as another voice echoed, "I'll be happy to take her!"

In a fluent stride, Orlando entered the large, spacious jail room.

"On second thought, I'd rather rot behind bars," I snarled, backing away as Orlando reached the bars. To my dismay, both guards took a few steps away, unveiling their strange grins.

"That can always be arranged when you are finally mine," Orlando cruelly remarked, gloating a sly yet utterly creepy sneer.

"If you ever get that pleasure." I rudely retorted. "If you haven't noticed, my execution is in debate."

Orlando snickered, boasting in his confidence. "Trust me, baby, you should know me better than to ever allow that. I've been protecting you for a long time."

"You gloat as if it holds any real significance!" I fiendishly snapped. "Your so-called protection is as hollow as your false love!"

"Kai is out there hiding like a coward, yet I'm here for you," Orlando's smooth utterance caressed my ears."Things between us could go back to how it was before. I will spoil you to no end."

I stride to the bars, merely an inch away from his face, dazzling him with my eyes as I uttered in a softer tone."You're right. Kai abandoned me here, but I still have you. Perhaps I should give us another chance."

Between the bars, my lips drew closer, flaunting a potential kiss as he leaned in, intertwining our breath as one. In a feathered touch, my nose grazed the tip of his nose, and just as his eyes merely closed with the thrill of kissing me, I spit in his face, letting him know he was a fool to think I'd ever succumb to him again.

"Unlike you, I trust Kai is committed to rescuing me. He knows they will detain him if he comes here! While you are standing around making a mockery out of yourself," I viciously retorted, embracing my ignorance to the fullest with him.

From below the crease of his eye, he wiped the saliva off with his finger as an enthralled sneer curved his lips when I revealed his manipulation wasn't going to work on me.

"If it weren't for me, Kai would have been detained!" Orlando mockingly scoffed while confusion swept across my mind.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, thinking I misheard him, though Orlando only glared at me.

Just then, Headmaster Danny entered, "I suggest you should be on your way," he rudely demanded from Orlando.

Without complaining, Orlando turned his back, disappearing amid his steady stride.

With him gone, Danny informed me while veiling his emotions. "Your execution will follow in the next three days."

"Why are you doing this?" I questioned as my heart sank into a shroud of darkness. "What have I done to deserve death?"

"Nothing yet," Danny replied in utter calmness. "A rising Rebellion is destroying all that we've built. It's given us no choice but to end it by executing you."

I pointedly affirmed as the riddle Orlando passed to me finally made sense. "And what if you're wrong? What if a third world war still occurs after my death? For all you know, the Rebellion could be tricking you into killing me for their scheme. If I become as powerful as it's been predicted in the prophecy, wouldn't you think the Rebellion wants me out of the way for their benefit?"

"Something drastic must occur within the next three days for us to consider that you aren't the cause of this Rebellion," Danny replied, expressing nothing whatsoever to say he had any ounce of empathy for me.

Teardrops watered in my eyes, yet I dared not reveal my defeat and pursed my lips, allowing the anger to broil through my blood.

"Kai won't allow this to happen," I uttered quietly as the anger sheared out from my eyes like a mighty iron sword ready to strike.

Danny stayed silent as the emotions on his face remained composed with his unchanged expression. With nothing more to say, he turned away, departing the spacious room, leaving me to cling onto the last morsel of hope I'd tucked away in the core of my heart.

"Your daddy won't let anything happen to us," I reassured my unborn triplets when I felt them kicking alert from being asleep. A sudden lingering question crawled to the back of my mind. What did Danny mean by saying "yet?"
