Chapter 1 - Ch. 1: The Beginning

A cold breeze whispering to my ears. New Year's Eve was two days ago. Now it's already 3rd of January on Monday.

The registration of new students should be today. I was accepted to one of the prestigious academy in the country.

I arrived in front of the gate by walking. I rented a house near the academy so I won't have any problems going to class.

"Be a good person in school. Don't go around throwing punches. Don't get into troubles."

These words were the last words from my grandpa before he died. He was the one that shaped me into a person. Both my parents had parted way when I was 3 month and grandpa took care of me since then. Now, I'll be on my own.

"Welcome to Grand Academy. New students please follow this path."

Following the path lead me towards the hall. This hall is pretty huge with some paintings that I believe was made by students here.

Suddenly, the sound of a speaker was heard. A student was holding a microphone on stage.

"Please line up according to class. I believe everyone got an email with a note that tells you which class you are assigned to. Girls, please line up next to the boys of your class."

I checked the email and I was assigned to class Alpha. The other classes are Bravo, Charlie and Delta. Somehow, I ended up at the very back. After doing quick headcount inside my head, each class has 15 boys and 15 girls.

Someone tapped on my shoulder from the back. I turned around slowly to look at the person.

"Is this the line for class Alpha?" she asked.

I nodded. She then stood beside me to join the line.

After that, the ceremony started to welcome new students. A boring 15 minute speech was given. Nothing special, just like any other speech.

"All students may enter the classroom now."

As the ceremony ended, we were tasked to enter our own classroom. As I arrived, our seat was already determined and was displayed on the board. I got the one beside the back door. On my left was the same girl that asked me the question.

"Coincidences are scary." I mumbled.

"That's right." she answered.

I guess my voice was too loud. I don't really care though.

Suddenly, a teacher entered the classroom.

"Good morning, everyone." she greeted.

"I am your homeroom teacher. You can call me Miss Sierra. I'm 26 years old. I want everyone to introduce themselves briefly. Starting from you." she said while she pointed at the student on her right. I guess I'll be last one to introduce.

Everyone's introduction somewhat bored me to death. I just remembered few students' name and there's that. Oh and I remembered the girl sitting beside me. Her name is Umara. A short but not too short girl with long black hair. She lives somewhat close to my own house. Her favourite thing is cat. I wouldn't consider cat as a thing but I guess she liked it so much it couldn't fill the hole in her brain. Now that I don't pay enough attention, it's my turn. Somehow I'm nervous.

"My name is Haru. I live near the academy." I sighed in relief. I did my introduction.

"It's a bit short. Can you explain more about yourself?" Miss Sierra asked.

"Hm.. I don't have any mind blowing talent, though I can play a bit of piano and guitar." I added. Seeing Miss Sierra's face made me think she is satisfied with my answer.

"That's great. Thank you, Haru." she thanked. I sat back down. Since I'm the last one, I wonder what's coming next.

"Now, we need a class representative. Anyone here want to volunteer as the class rep?" she asked. Now, we're looking for class rep. Let's just say I'm not interested in extra work during my time in this academy so I won't bother volunteering.

Someone at the very front row of the class raised his hand. Thank goodness he is a saviour.

"

Miss, may I suggest Wal as the class rep?" he said while pointing at someone whom I assume is Wal. Judging by Wal's face, he is also shocked, I mean who wouldn't? Getting your name mentioned out of the blue. Well, that broke my expectation. I thought he was gonna volunteer but I guess not.

"Do you agree with this, Wal?" Miss Sierra asked.

"Hm… why not Haru?" Wal said.

Oi, oi, oi… Me? Now not that only broke my expectation but it also made my body stiffened a bit. Miss Sierra is already looking at me.

"Hm, if it comes to this, then I might have everyone vote." She came up with an idea. When there's choices like this, it's better to sort to democracy.

"Everyone, raise your hand if you want Wal as the class rep and vice versa." she said.

Now, the result is all that matter. Somehow, this is the only one thing I wish I don't win.

"15 votes for Wal, 13 votes for Haru. Wal will be the class rep."

Thank God. I felt very relieved. But now, moving on to the next agenda.

"Now, class is dismissed. You all may go back home." Miss Sierra said.

I remembered, the email that stated which class we're in also stated that today was only for registration and ice breaking session.

I left the classroom quickly. I don't have any plan right now so I might take a detour on my way home.
