{ FOOD & MOVIE }

Emma and Julian entered the station together.

Robert was just stepping out of a room when he sighted them.

He smiled and walked towards them, burying his hands inside his pants pocket.

"Hey," He greeted in a very calm tone.

"Hey," Emma replied. "How did it go?"

He nodded in approval. "Good. She is in the interrogation room as we speak right now. She kept denying it until we made her watch the video footage."

"Did she really kill Steven?" Julian asked from behind, looking so sad about everything going on lately.

Robert nodded his head as a yes, shrugging slightly as he gave her a pitiful look.

"Can I have a word with her?" She asked, balling her fist.

"You can't," Emma answered before Rob could. "It is against the policy. Although, while we interrogate her, you can watch from the viewing room."

Robert knitted his brows. "Is that a good idea?"

Emma sighed. "I'm sure she is as curious as I am."

When Emma told Julian who the killer was, the girl couldn't just believe the story. It doesn't make any sense for so many reasons. How can she kill Steven? Weren't they dating? Or was she pissed off that he was two-timing her?

Julian had so many things going on in her head. She wanted to curse at the girl and beat her up to a stupor until she is unrecognizable. But just as she had told Emma, she can't pass down judgment based on her feelings. She could regret it later on if she does anything stupid.

However, one question was bothering the heck out of her mind. The question was, why? Why did Micah kill Steven? There has to be a reason, right? People don't just kill another person for fun. It's not like the girl is a psychopath who enjoys watching people beg and cry for their lives. After all, Steven's death must have been her first kill. Or maybe she has been killing but made a mistake this last time.

Julian was willing to remain calm and listen to the bitch's excuse. Maybe she wanted to defend herself from Steven and ended up stabbing him. Or maybe she let her anger take the better part of her. Or maybe... Maybe... Well, there has got to be a reason or an excuse. And she wants to know what it is.

Robert raised a questioning brow, tilting his head to the side a little bit. "What else could you be curious about?"

"Her reason." Julian answered the question, frowning. "She has got to have one, right?"

"Uhm, maybe?"

"Maybe?" She scoffed. "Do you think it is normal for someone to take another person's life for fun?" Tears streamed down her face. "Steven has always dreamt of becoming a businessman. He said he loves counting money and sitting behind a desk. He was a cheerful and friendly boy. It is one reason why I fell helplessly in love with him. He ticked out every one of the things I want in a man. But I felt betrayed when I found out that he has been cheating on me! Maybe she also found out about us that night, I don't know. But that is not enough reason for her to kill him!" She cried. "She f**king cut off his dreams. That is not fair."

Emma has also been asking herself that same question. Each time she handled a murder case, she just want to figure out why the killer did what they did. Only a psychopath could kill a fellow human just for fun because they love the smell of blood or enjoy it when people beg for their lives. But a normal human must have killed for a reason.

Although, no reason or excuse is justifiable for killing someone but it is better than killing just because you felt like it.

Robert cleared his throat, running his fingers through his dark hair. "What are we waiting for then? Let's go and figure out her reason."

"She said that?" Sandra asked, looking very surprised and confused.

"Yes. The bitch held no sadness at all in her eyes. I don't get it, didn't you say she is very close to the patient?"

"She is. I mean, her reaction when I told her about the current state of the girl was priceless. I was tempted to pull out my phone and capture the moment. She should be devastated after the director told her she won't be the doctor in charge of the girl again. Wait, what if she is only trying to act tough, you know? Acting like she doesn't give a f**k?"

"That is possible. But do you know what angered me most?" He questioned, glaring. "She dares threaten me. The nerve of that bitch!"

"Are you worried about what she said?"

"Shouldn't I be?"

Sandra rolled her eyes. "Of course not. Why should you be worried? That bitch is all bark and no bite. What can she possibly do, huh?"

Marshall thought about Sandra's words and nodded his head, licking his lips. "You are right, though. She can't do anything."

"She can't. But hey, I have an idea of how we can break her further with this new opportunity."

He furrowed his brows, leaning towards the desk in curiosity. "I'm all ears."

"Make sure she doesn't go anywhere near ward 302 or the patient. Don't forget she said she can still care for the girl and love her even without being a doctor... We can crush that teeny tiny hope of hers, don't you think? After all, you are now the doctor in charge of the affairs of the little girl." Sandra eased into her seat, smirking.

Marshall started laughing, nodding his head in agreement as he also leaned back into his cool leather seat, twirling it from side to side. "You are so right. Why didn't I think of this since? You are not only pretty but smart, Dr. Sandra."

Sandra blushed and waved her hand in the air as if shooing off a fly. "Oh, stop with the formalities. We are alone in here." She winked.

Marshall stood up and started taking off the doctor's white coat he was wearing, staring at Sandra with his eyes filled with lust and want. "Of course, we are alone. And you know what we do when we are alone?"

Sandra seductively ran the tip of her tongue over her red lipstick lips, unbuttoning her blouse. "We have some fun."

Abby buried her fingers in her blonde hair, staring at the black desk like it was the most interesting thing in the world.

How was she going to break the news to Tara that she won't be the doctor in charge of her again?

The little angel will surely feel sad and depressed about the news.

Abby felt like strangling Marshall, squeezing the life out of the f**king bastard.

How could he?

He has practically made it his mission to frustrate her in the hospital and his partner in crime, Sandra has that same goal.

Why do they want to make life hell for her? What did she ever do to them? It isn't her fault that she was good at her job and the patients seem to like her a lot.

She was only being her usual self, Abigail Inocencio. She won't classify her personality as being nice but rather as being humane.

She doesn't know why people hate other people because they are better than them or doing well than them. Jealousy is one thing that ruins a man, honestly.

She groaned at the back of her throat, gripping her hair a little bit tight. She felt the need to talk to Emma and tell her about how awful and frustrating her day was going but she doesn't want to disturb her beautiful, amazing, and smart detective friend. She must be busy catching criminals and putting them behind bars, exactly where they belong.

Abby disentangle her fingers from her hair and looked out of the window to the sky, still staying seated on her chair. Will a time come when Emma will arrest her for a crime she commits? Will she have the courage to arrest her own best friend and only family just to please the law?

Abigail shook her head. Why was she thinking something as stupid as that? It's not like she was going to commit any crime. Okay, maybe she might end up killing that bastard that calls himself Marshall and his f**king bitch, Sandra. But are they worth going to prison for? Of course not.

There was a knock on the door.

"Come in," Abby grumbled.

The door opened and a young nurse walked in.

"Dr. Abby," She bowed her head slightly.

"Nurse Thelma, hey." Abigail responded with a smile on her face. "Is anything the matter?"

"No, not really. Ward 250 have been asking after you since morning." She informed.

Ward 250 was Mr. Gilbert's ward.

"Oh, yeah." Abigail sighed, standing up to her feet. "He must be worried sick that I haven't gone to visit him."

Thelma nodded her head. "Yes, ma."

"Come on, let's go. We can't keep our patient waiting."

They both left the office.

The room wasn't big enough to occupy more than six people. It was dark in there but the light that was hanging low in the middle of where they sat, illuminated the room.

Robert and Emma sat down a few miles away from the door while Micah sat opposite them, the table putting a division between them.

There was an awkward silence between them until Micah decided to talk.

"You already know I'm the killer, why am I still here in the interrogation room?" She asked.

"Someone has a question for you," Emma mumbled.

"Someone? Question?" She reiterated, looking super confused. "what are you talking about?"

"What is your reason for killing Steven? What did he do? That is the question the person will like to ask you." Emma said.

Micah's face suddenly turned from confusion to realization, adjusting herself on the chair and moving her gaze to the observation mirror. It was tinted dark so all she could see was her reflection and that of the detectives.

"Julian is right behind that mirror, isn't she?" She queried, not taking her eyes off the tinted mirror.

"She wants to know why you killed her boyfriend." Robert stated.

"Boyfriend?" She chuckled darkly, glancing over to the male detective. "Do I need a reason?"

"Steven is obviously your first kill so yes, you need a reason." Emma told the girl. "Don't you feel remorseful? Don't you feel disgusted with yourself? You killed a human for Christ's sake!"

"He brought it upon himself." Micah retorted, her nose flaring up, her eyes sparkling in anger. "How could he choose to break up with me because of that bitch!?" She pointed at the mirror without looking. "I loved him. I really do. But he chose to hurt me the way he did."

"Didn't you know he had a girlfriend before you started dating him?" Robert asked.

She sighed. "Honestly, I did. At first, I never wanted to say yes to him but... I think we will have to blame my heart."

"Is that your excuse? Because he wanted to break up with you?" Emma asked.

Micah sniffled, ruffling her hair. "It was a mistake, okay? I was overwhelmed by my emotions. He hurt me pretty badly and I was so blinded by the anger I felt. I wanted to hurt him back at that point. And that was when I sighted the knife on the ground. Before I could hold back or stop myself... I stabbed him. I know it is no excuse and I do regret my actions but partially," She moved her gaze back to the observation mirror. "This is your fault as much as it is mine. And I'm sure you know what I mean." It was obviously clear she was talking to Julian who was in the viewing room.

"What do you mean?" Robert asked.

She shrugged. "Well, if she hadn't brought in the knife, I wouldn't have stabbed Steven with it. And he broke up with me because of her. I have every right to blame her for what happened, don't I?"

"Here," Emma handed Julian a paper cup of coffee and sat down beside her on the bench outside the station building. "How do you feel now?"

Julian took a sip and let out a deep breath. "I don't know... Relief? Guilt? Remorse? Heartache?" She chuckled sadly, shaking her head. "It's crazy, right?"

"I get how you feel, Ms. Julian. But do not blame yourself about anything." Emma said.

"Oh, please. Call me just Julian. It sounds so formal calling me Miss." She smiled. "Thank you, Detective Emma. You helped me catch Steven's killer and now, he must be at rest wherever he is."

"I only did my job. You don't have to thank me."

"I know. But still, thank you." She stood up to her feet and sighed again. "I will continue with my life, finish college, get my master's degree, and live a better and healthy life. Steven will want that, right?"

Emma stood up and nodded. "Of course."

"Can I...hug you?" She asked quietly.

"Mm-hmm." Emma agreed.

Julian walked into the detective's arms and momentarily closed her eyes, sucking in a deep breath.

"Thank you once again. And let's meet someday in the future. But for different purposes this time around."

"Sure."

Abigail entered the house, looking so tired and frustrated. She walked through the hallway and finally got to the living room where she saw Emma eating Doritos while watching Mulan.

She stared at the wall clock, it was half past eight. Her gaze fell back on her best friend while dropping her car keys on the table and her handbag on the couch.

"You are back early." She noted.

Emma looked up at her with a grin plastered on her face. "Oh, my favorite is back!"

"Yeah, she is." Abby collected a handful of Doritos and sat down beside Emma. "How was your day?"

"Argh, stressful. It is really not easy to catch a murderer, you know."

"Well, that is how it is meant to be. Your rack your brain out, suspect everybody and find who your killer is." Abby said, chewing on the snack. "Have you had dinner?"

"Nope. I was waiting for you to return."

"Please, don't tell me you didn't try to make anything we can eat for dinner."

"If I tried, this house will be filled with smoke and you won't be sitting down here comfortably. So no, I didn't try to make dinner." Before Abby could start complaining and whining, Emma continued. "However, I ordered something for dinner. It is in the kitchen."

"Oh, thank God. I thought I was only going to drink water and go to bed."

They both laughed.

"How many times are you going to watch this cartoon?" Abby asked, going towards the kitchen.

"I don't know. Probably when I grow old?" Emma paused the movie and followed Abby to the kitchen. "You didn't tell me how your day went."

"Bad."

"Bad? What happened? Are you okay? Did a patient die? Wait, don't tell me something bad happened to Tara?"

"You look so scared." Abby pointed out the obvious.

"Of course, I am. You know how much you mean to me and I hate when you tell me you had a bad day." She pouted.

"Well, something bad almost happened to Tara but hopefully, she is alright."

"What do you mean?"

"I will tell you everything while we eat, what do you say?"

"Perfect."

•••••

Thirty minutes later, the girls sat on the couch while eating and watching the Mulan movie. Abigail has taken her bath already after microwaving the food.

They silently ate the food, laughing at some scenes shown and sometimes they feel proud of the role displayed by the main character. Emma really loves this movie and can watch it over and over again without getting tired or bored. The main character, Mulan portrayed the character of a strong, brave, and independent woman. She didn't rely on a man or hope for a prince charming like a princess in distress. Hopefully, love found her even without her looking for it.

Eventually, the movie came to an end at the same time, they finished their food.

"Wow, this moment made my day." Abigail giggled.

"I know, right?" Emma agreed. "So," She took a small gulp of water. "Are you going to tell me now what happened?"

Abigail explained everything that happened in the hospital without leaving a thing out.

"You really said that to him?"

"I was pissed off, okay? He and Sandra just know the right buttons to press to make me angry and frustrated." She groaned.

"Hey, calm down." Emma pulled her into a side hug. "Do you need me to arrest them and lock them behind bars?"

"Can you do that?" Abby asked, hope clouding her eyes.

"No."

Abigail's face dropped and she fake glared at her friend before placing her head on her shoulder. "Whatever."

"I'm proud of you, Abby. And f**k those jealous freaks. You will keep going higher while they keep crying in pain. Give them chest pains, honey. You got a detective behind you."

Abigail smiled. "I love you, Em."

"I love you more, honey. And I will do anything for you. Believe me." Emma placed her head over Abigail's that was on her shoulder.

"Me too. Which is why I will uphold my kind behavior so you don't get disappointed in me. I won't let Marshall and Sandra get to me."

"Good girl." Emma placed a soft kiss on top of Abigail's head. "And hey, I will never be disappointed in you. Never.
